    More Plot Details
'Dinotrack' alerted me to this article which appeared in today's edition of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. It mostly details the $20,000 donation Universal gave to the Hawaiian Commerce Department (Story), but also includes this bit of interesting plot detail:
"For nearly a week the film company has been at Dillingham, using one of its abandoned airfields for a scene in the movie where Sam Neill, who is repeating his role as Dr. Alan Grant, is sent to the island of Isla Sorna to 'investigate reports of mysterious deaths.'"
The picture on the right is of Laura Sode-Matteson, Hawaii native and location manager for JP3. The plane behind her is also apparently going to be used in the film.

    The Old JP Gate
It's not really directly related to JP3, but Bob from Hawaii Movie Tours ventured deep into the Keahua Forestry Arboretum (where production on JP3 is expected to move next week) to bring us a picture of the infamous Jurassic Park Gate, or, what's left of it.. "Looking thru the gates, you are seeing Mt. Waialeale, the wettest spot on Earth with an average rainfall of over 450 inches," Bob says. Make sure you visit the HMT website for more pictures.

About the Site B Visitor Center
Not news, just speculation -- 'Scififann' wanted to let us know that it's unlikely that JP3 production will re-use what is left of the Site B Visitor (aka Operations) Center, currently sitting on the backlot at Universal. "Because of recent accidents during other film productions, this set along with others not relating to JP at the studio must pass a safety inspection," he says. "This JP2 set has been standing for nearly four years without paint or repair to apoint where it's 'tear it down before it falls down'.

    Plot Details
Tiffany Taira pointed me towards this article (entitled "Media gain access to 'Jurassic Park III' set") from the Honolulu Advertiser, in which the author relates her trip to Dillingham Airfield to take a look at the "abandoned jungle airfield where some of the action in the film takes place." Some additional excerpts:
Most details concerning the plot, budget and locations have been kept secret, to build mystery and to enforce security during filming. But filmmakers revealed this: One or two characters in "JPIII" get crunched by dinosaurs. One man meets his fate while standing on the runway, and a dinosaur looms in front of an oncoming plane.

Universal did not pay a location fee for the use of Dillingham Airfield because military regulations do not allow collecting such fees ... But the studio donated $22,000 to a ceremony in which Hawai‘i Japanese-American World War II veterans received a Medal of Honor. The donation paid off the event’s outstanding debts.

    John Diehl Cast as 'Cooper'
In the same article, a short cast list is mentioned, which lists John Diehl as playing body-guard "Cooper", the "unfortunate who runs afoul of sharp-toothed predators on the jungle runway." The 42-year-old actor has appeared in several films, including A Time To Kill, Nixon, and Anywhere But Here. He also starred in the hit 80's cop show, Miami Vice as Detective Larry Zito. 'Gallimimus Herd' Location to be Used in JP3
The Hawaii Movie Tours website has been updated once again with word that the "reservoir" location on Kauai (used during the Gallimimus herd scene in Jurassic Park) will once again be a filming location for JP3. "Does this give you any clues as to if they are going back to Nublar?," HMT asks.

    Aerial Photography, JP3 Crew Parties
An article in Hawaii Star Bulletin reports that aerial photography will take place September 5-8 of "Molokai's North Shore Cliffs" (pic). The author adds that, "The...production will divide its time over three weeks between Oahu and Kauai...Most of the Oahu 'Jurassic Park' filming is being done at four locations along the Windward side and the North Shore with the Dillingham site playing a major role." Interestingly, "Kualou Ranch", a important location in the first film, will not be used for JP3 since the upcoming Nick Cage film, "Windtakes", is being shot there. Finally, the JP3 crew will be celebrating the start of production today with a "luau at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel". Par-tayyy! (Pic stolen from IGN Filmforce)

    News from Universal
Some inside info from my source who works at Universal Studios: First up, he confirms that the TLW visitor center on the backlot (aka "the Site B operations center"), is in fact being renovated "to make it look new or at least a lot better than it did before." He adds that new buildings are being constructed to the left of the operations center, the site where the infamous white wall once proudly stood. In addition, he says that according to a recent call sheet, production the film is at day 79 of 140.

    News from Hawaii
Meanwhile, Bob from the Hawaii Movie Tours website has been sneaking around the Hawaiian set of JP3 again, and has found that the production will move to the Forest Reserve (aka the "Keahua Forestry Arboretum") on Kauai next week. "Ironically, it was very near this area that parts of JP1 were filmed," HMT says. "Three miles up the road you'll run right into the spot where they built the JP gate." (Thanks John Neumann)

    JP+TLW DVD Video Clips
As if we weren't having a hard enough time waiting for the JP and TLW DVD's (to be released Oct. 10), DVD.com (aka Express.com) has gone ahead and posted several short video clips of some of the cool menu animations we have to look forward to on the JP DVD. Here's the links to the RealVideo clips, for your convenience: (Saw this at Ingennet)

    News from Hawaii
The Hawaii Movie Tours website has been updated once again, with word that the start date for filming on Kauai has been actually been moved up, to September 5th. In addition, HMT reports that crews are looking for "old, rusty equipment" to "simulate the destruction caused years before by large beasts destroying the old park." Check out the HMT website for more info.

    Visitor Center Renovation?
Dark Horizions posted a picture of a "renovated" TLW Visitor Center (the place where Nick radios for help).. I'm assuming this is the set that is on the backlot at Universal Studios, but Garth did not provide any additional details..

    Filming Begins Today
Or probably more accuratly, began... Bob from Hawaii Movie Tours sent me a message saying that I was incorrect when I said yesterday that filming begins on the river today (which is on Kauai). In actuality, filming began today on the island of Oahu, at the military base (Dilligham Field). "Filming will begin on Kauai Sept. 11 if everything sticks to schedule," Bob says.

    Production Crew Shortages on Hawaii
Interesting little tidbit from Variety this morning.. Apparently, with several film and television productions taking place on Hawaii this summer -- the article mentions that JP3 and "Windtalkers" are being shot on Oahu, with "Baywatch Hawaii" in production elsewhere on the islands -- every union worker there has a job, and "officials [must] rely on referrals from its members to fill vacant positions."

    Michael Jeter Cast
Little-known actor Michael Jeter has joined the JP3 cast, according to Variety. The 48-year-old Tennessee native has appeared in several films, including Waterworld, The Money Pit, and most recently, The Green Mile. Jeter also has a prolific career on Broadway, winning a prestigious Tony Award in 1990 for best featured actor (aka "supporting actor") in the musical "Grand Hotel". As to which character Jeter will play in JP3, your guess is as good as mine, though the anonymous source that tipped me off to this news speculates it'll be "Cooper", the bodyguard.

    Poster on Display in England
'EvilGrinch_Uk' sent word from over the pond that his local cinema (the "Robins Cinema Camberly just South of London") has the new JP3 poster up already, with the new JP3 logo and the words, "Dream. Fantasy. Destruction. Get ready for the Evolution of Adventure." When asked, the staff said they received no instructions from Universal about the date the poster should go up, unlike the theater in Tennessee (Story). The image of the poster, by the way, is still coming soon (hopefully it'll be up here by tomorrow evening)..

    Teaser Trailer 'Postponed'
Some interesting information from 'Brandon' once again, who says that Universal had originally planned on attaching the much-anticipated JP3 teaser trailer to the new cheerleader flick, Bring it On. However, they never got the teaser, and received a fax the day the film was to be released saying that it had been "postponed". Unfortunatly, there was no word as to when it will appear, so we will have to continue to wait.

Raptor Boat Takes a Test Drive
The Hawaii Movie Tours website has been updated once again with news that the 'Raptor Boat' (Story) has been moved into the Wailua River, where filming is scheduled to begin tomorrow. "It took a cruise today to check out it's worthiness on the water," says HMT. Check out the HMT website for more pictures from the set.

    Filming Delays
Hawaii Movie Tours updated their site with a brief note to report that, "[There's] not much happening here yet. A few pre-production folks here running around like chickens with their heads cut off taking care of a million details. Things not likely to start cooking until next week." (Saw this on Ingennet)

New JP3 Poster coming Sept. 16
I received an email from Brandon, a movie theater manager in Nasville, Tenneessee, with news about a new JP3 poster. According to him, Universal has instructed him not to display the poster until September 16th, but he says that it has the Jurassic Park logo with the three claw marks with the following text at the bottom: "Dream. Fantasy. Destruction. Get Ready for the Evolution of Adventure". Brandon also promises a scan of the poster soon, so stay tuned..

    Raptor Boat, Filming Locations
JP3HQ has received some juicy info and pictures from Hawaii Moive Tours, who claim that this boat (pic) has been flown in from California, complete with a "Raptor cage" and specially-built to be operated by remote control. The boat apparently has "special pumps and water chambers" that can make the boat look like it's sinking. "The boat will be used in the opening scene, the closing scene, and some in between," says the source. Hawaii Movie Tours also provided some information about filming locations.. apparently filming will take place on the Wailua River and at Dillingham Air Field starting on Monday.

Lots of Pictures from the Hawaii Set
I wanted to give a whole news bite to the Hawaii Movie Tours Website, which has posted a bunch of pictures from the Hawaiian set of JP3, including the boat pictures, filming locations, and an interesting camera barge for filming on the Wailua river itself. The picture to the right is a close-up view of the Raptor pen on the boat (see story above), but be sure to check out the HMT website for more. They also promise that they'll be updating the site with more images "almost daily".

    Filming to Start Next Wednesday
They're reporting over at IGN Filmforce that according to sources close to the production, filming on JP3 is scheduled to begin next Wednesday, August 30th in Hawaii, a day before my birthday. Coincidence? I think not. :) After filming in Kauai, says Steve, they'll move to that still-unknown military base we heard about last week, then to a third Hawaiian island. After that, production will presumably finish at Universal Studios in Hollywood.

    Wesley Snipes in JP3?
Now this could be complete BS, but according to a source that wishes to remain anonymous, while listening to shock-jocks Don and Mike today here in DC, he heard that Wesley Snipes will be filling the "military attache" role in JP3. I'm kicking myself, cause I was listening to the show about 5 minutes before he claimed he heard it, and got out of my car. No additional information was provided.
