DVD Details, Universal Offers 4th DVD To Everyone!
A major Hollywood studio being kind to its customers? It's true! While many of us worried about the announcement a few days ago that Universal was preparing a new Jurassic Park Trilogy set with all three JP movies plus a new bonus disc, The Jurassic Park Franchise (thinking that Universal would force us to buy the set again to get the 4th disc), the press release says that Universal will have a deal where if you've already bought the JP and TLW DVD's, you can get the 4th disc (plus a "collectible Jurassic Park DVD slipcase") for $6.95. Here's some more info from the press release on the trilogy and the new Jurassic Park 3 DVD:
This year’s $180 million summer blockbuster is destined to be one of this year’s home video events for the holidays when Universal Studios Home Video releases its most ambitious DVD to date, Jurassic Park III, on December 11, 2001. Featuring the most in-depth look at ILM’s special effects wizardry ever compiled, this Collector’s Edition DVD boasts over 10 hours of entertainment. JP3 will also be available on VHS and as a special 4-disc "Jurassic Park Trilogy Collection" DVD set which includes an exclusive bonus disc, "Beyond Jurassic Park," containing an additional two hours of features. And as a special incentive, a "Buy 1, Get 1 Free" offer will give consumers who purchase JP3 on DVD the opportunity to own another Universal title for free.

From the most comprehensive and in-depth look into the secrets of ILM to a special tour of the Stan Winston Studio, the Jurassic Park III DVD includes an unprecedented amount of added-value content produced exclusively for the DVD.

Combined with the exclusive bonus disc from the "Jurassic Park Trilogy Collection" the DVD release represents the most extensive compilation of footage and interviews on the Jurassic Park franchise to date.

Packed with over 10 hours of entertainment, the Jurassic Park III DVD has something for everyone. Extras include:

      • The Making of Jurassic Park III — A look at the making of the film featuring the filmmakers, cast, and crew.
      • The New Dinosaurs of Jurassic Park III — An examination of the pre-historic creatures featured in the film and a visit to the Montana dinosaur dig site hosted by paleontologist Jack Horner.
      • Feature Commentary — Running audio-commentary by the team responsible for the film’s special effects.
      • A Guided Tour of the Stan Winston Studio — A montage of the steps involved in the building of the film’s creatures.
      • A Visit to ILM — Follow the evolution of the film’s CGI work, including the groundbreaking skin and muscle simulation. Witness the 20 different stages in a rare step-by-step look at the computer graphics created by ILM.
      • Dinosaur Turntable — A spectacular three-dimensional look at the 12 dinosaurs created for the film.
      • Storyboards, production drawings, games and much more!
      • Special 4-Disc "Jurassic Park Trilogy Collection " and Exclusive "Bonus Disc" Mail-In Offer
Also available on DVD is a Special 4-Disc "Jurassic Park Trilogy Collection" which includes all 3 Jurassic Park films and an exclusive Bonus Disc containing never-before-seen bonus footage from all three films.
(Thanks 'BigChimpin', DVDFile.com, and a nod to inGenNET who beat me to it ;)

    Johnston Interview
Our man Joe Johnston sat down with Film and Video Magazine for a quick chat about his career, his opinions on digital film, and, of course, his challenges on JP3. "I definitely wanted this one to be darker and scarier than the first two films, but it wasn’t easy stepping into Spielberg’s shoes," Joe says. "They didn’t fit me very well, but he told me repeatedly that he was hiring me to make my movie and not another one of his, so he was never arbitrary." (Thanks 'Packhunter')

    DVD Collection 4-Disc Set?
Well this certainly isn't any way for Universal Home Video to make friends: According to DVDFile.com, the new Jurassic Park Trilogy box DVD set (with all three movies, to be released 12/11), will also come with an exclusive fourth disc, "The Jurassic Park Franchise" with even more bonus materials. The downside? It looks like if you want the fourth disc, you'll have to buy the new set for $75. Hopefully I'll have more details on this soon.... (Thanks 'Scttwhite')

    'Park Builder' Review
pocket.ign.com has posted their review of the new JP3 Game Boy Advance game, "Park Builder", calling it a "decent idea for the movie license, but [with] a few gaping flaws in its design." The author does say, however, that, "there's a lot to uncover in the game, and designing and managing your own park is a lot of fun." (Thanks 'Drakk')

    JP3 on TV
The contracts have been signed, and it looks like the first place we'll see JP3 on television is ABC, starting February 2004. Variety says that ABC forked up $15 million for the rights, substantially less than FOX paid for TLW back in 1997 ($80 million). After ABC, Turner paid $10 million to get the film for TBS and TNT, which will air JP3 for 3 1/2 years starting in November 2006. (Thanks Movieheadlines.net and David)

    DVD Cover Art 2
'Vader' noticed the pre-order page for the JP3 DVD on Costco.com, of all places, has been updated with what looks like the final version of the JP3 DVD case. It's similar to the graphic below -- notice "Collector's Edition" and "Widescreen" on the top and bottom. You can now pre-order JP3 from Amazon.com, both in DVD and VHS versions (both are due out 12/11).

    Unreleased JP3 Music Clips
inGenNET noticed you can download a few sound clips of unreleased portions of Don Davis' JP3 score over at his official site. They include tracks called "Party Crasher" and "Reaching for Glory", and as inGenNET observes, "some of them are great, some of them are not".

    DVD Cover Art
The Digital Bits has posted what they're calling the "studio temp artwork" for the upcoming JP3 DVD. Not very exciting, but, uh, there it is. (If the DVD art is anything like the soundtrack art, the final design will be very similar). The DVD will be out in stores just in time for the holiday season, on December 11th. (Thanks 'Embryo')

    Jon's Dad OK
Word comes from the JPDatabase that Jon's dad (Jon is the webmaster of JPd) has been located and is OK. The story of his survival is simply amazing, as Jon says he was actually on the roof of the second building when the first was hit. Hopefully there are many other stories like this. (Update: For the record, he wasn't on the roof of the WTC, it was an office building a block away. Still.. crazy.)

    JP3 #1 In Australia Again
In it's second weekend of release in the land down under, JP3 managed to do what it could not in the US: hold on to the first place spot. It took in $2,901,057 Friday-Sunday, bringing its total to $6,643,796. (Thanks Hayley)

    Movie Releases Postponend
Not really JP3-related, but you might be interested to hear about Hollywood's reaction to yesterday's attacks: According to this Reuters report, Friday's release of "Big Trouble" (a comedy about, among other things, a terrorist plot) has been delayed, as has Arnold Schwarzenegger's upcoming "Collateral Damage". On TV, networks are pushing back their premieres, and several shows about "stories that may strike too close to recent events" (such as "Alias", "The Agency", "UC: Undercover", and "24") may be canned as well. And probably most ironically, FOX has cancelled their planned airing of "Independence Day" Sunday night, for obvious reasons. (Thanks Tyler)

    Park Builder Shipments Delayed
If you're hoping to head out to the store today to pick up a copy of the second Game Boy Advance game by Konami, "Jurassic Park 3: Park Builder", you might want to wait a few more days: According to 'JP3me', because of the FAA restrictions on airline flights (some of which may resume tomorrow), the people at least one software store said they didn't expect it in for a few days.

    Box Office Update
Quick update on this past weekend's box office: JP3 took in $970,170, putting its total at $177,059,445. The big threat is still POTA, however.. who is still right behind with $174,998,799. (Thanks 'JP Animal Control')

At least a bit of good news -- several people reported that according to Entertainment Tonight JP/JP3 star Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler) has given birth to her and singer-songwriter Ben Harper's baby this past weekend. It's her fist child. (Thanks

    Tragedy
By now you have heard about the catastrophy this morning in New York City and Washington, DC, which will no doubt go down in history as the worst terrorist attack the world has ever seen. Being from upper New Jersey, many of my friends parents' work in NYC, as do the parents of Jon from JPDatabase, one of our community of JP sites. I don't really want to talk much about about the events -- I'm sure everyone here will join me in hoping for the best for everyone involved.

    DVD Announced!
Here's the news we've been waiting for, folks. Universal has finally announced the upcoming JP3 DVD, according to DVDFile.com -- and it sounds great! "In addition to a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround tracks," DVDFile.com says, "the disc looks quite feature loaded, with an audio commentary with director Joe Johnston, an on-set making of featurette, additional features on 'The New Dinosaurs of Jurassic Park III,' 'A Tour of Stan Winston's Studio,' 'Visit to ILM; Dinosaur turntables,' a behind-the-scenes montage, and galleries including storyboard sequences, the 'Jurassic Park III Archives,' and 'Finding new dinosaurs,' as well as theatrical trailers." As we've heard, the disc is set for December 11th, and will retail for $26.95. And as predicted, Universal is also readying a "Jurassic Park Trilogy" set, with all three JP movies for $79.95. (Thanks 'BuhYah88')

    PS2 Game Delayed?
The release date for "JP3: Survival" at Funcoland.com has been updated to reflect an apparent delay in production on the upcoming Playstation 2 game -- the release date is now listed as January 1, 2002, almost 2 months after the original release date, November 14. No word as to where Funcoland got their information, however. (Thanks 'Kasairex16')

    New Horner Special on Discovery
Be sure to check out a new dinosaur special on TV from the Discovery Channel next Monday -- called "Valley of the T.Rex", the 1-hour special follows JP3 dino expert Jack Horner on his quest to uncover a new T.rex skeleton. At the Discovery Channel site on the show, you can read about the special, look at some photos, and submit questions to Jack Horner himself. It airs at 9pm ET/PT. (Thanks JPDatabase.net)

    Aussie Party
Well, we now know where at least some of that $3.74 million opening weekend in Australia came from -- 'packhunter' sends along this pic of the JP3 premiere party he organized in Perth, Australia this past weekend, where more than 300 people showed up!

    Box Office News
JP3 opened big in Australia this past weekend, as The Movie Marshal reports it took in $3.74 million, a per screen average of $12,073. While it was a solid launch, it is only the 10th biggest this year, "down considerably from the $4.8 million of the original Jurassic Park and from the $5.8 million of the 1997 sequel TLW." Experts are predicting the film will end up in the $12-13 million range. Back in the US, JP3 held on to it's 12 place spot in its 7th week of release, with an estimated holiday gross of $2.3 million. POTA, however, is sneaking up -- while that film dropped one spot to 11th, it's total, $173 million, is very close to JP3's total gross of $175.8 million. (Thanks 'packhunter')

    Baby Trike at IOA
Another reason to head to Universal's Islands of Adventure in Orlando: Besides the animatronic spinosaurus from JP3 on display, inGenetics.net is reporting that Universal has been trying out a new part-puppet/part-animatronic baby Triceratops, which walks around the park attracting attention.
