    Modern Day Devils P8
    By Snake - Mark

Mark twisted his neck, cracking it, as he made his way to the basement of the house. The blood on the first floor had just stopped, and he was curious as to if the bodies somehow fell through the floor and landed in the basement. Hell, at this point, anything’s possible.

The wooden stairs creaked as he put his weight down on one after the other. At points he feared that the damn wood would just give in underneath him. His next step brought him down on hard concrete. He lifted his hands and searched the walls with his fingers, but found no light switch. A grunt pushed up from his throat, dissatisfied. Considering the fact he were stuck in a completely dark room with no apparent source of light, the uneasiness that had struck him when he first entered the house had completely dissipated, and deep down inside he knew what this meant. You’re not alone.

The teen stopped on a dime and stood completely still. He lifted his head into the air and, as if he were some hunting carnivore, inhaled through his nose. A smile crossed his lips as the mix of a putrid yet sweet smell entered his naval passage.

Mark had only confronted him once, but his smell was almost completely obvious. Something completely unbearable covered by the overpowering stench of expensive Toilet Water.

“Are you following me?” Mark spoke, his voice having a hint of annoyance.

The basement room lit up dimly. Mark stood at the entrance of a completely open room. There were very few boxes scattered around the room; in one corner several large boxers were lined up together, one set in the middle of others, which were stacked on top of each other. From the looks of it, the stack job looked to be a makeshift chair. Sitting in this makeshift chair was the same person who had told Mark his fait, who had given Mark a whole different way to look at his life.

“You are rather important to me, Mark,” Lucifer paused, lifting himself off of the middle box, “but I’ve other reasons to be here.”

“They were hybrids, weren’t they?” Mark looked up to the ceiling, then back down to the Demon.

“Jophiel was,” Lucifer noticed the confusion on Mark’s face, “Jonathan. His wife is human.” His eyelids closed as he shrugged slightly. “Well, was human. Now she’ll be fighting for them.”

“Jophiel? He was an angel.” Mark looked to the concrete floor and snapped his fingers twice, his mind looking for something. “Wisdom. He stood for wisdom.”

“Indeed, but he’s not like you.” Lucifer walked up to Mark and placed his hand on his shoulder lightly. “There’s more to this hybrid shit than I told you before.”

Mark recoiled from the Demon’s touch. “Why keep anything from me in the beginning.”

“It would be like telling a kid he was adopted and his real parents died at his birth. Which would you tell him first, because you know he wouldn’t be able to accept both truths? I chose to tell you that you were different to a degree,” a long, snakelike tongue licked drying lips as he continued, “And now you will find out to what degree.”

Mark simply nodded, crossing his arms and keeping his gaze on Lucifer.

“Have you ever gone through a moment where you’ve felt completely pure?”

“When I fight. It’s almost as if my mind is telling me it’s okay, that I won’t feel repent for killing.”

Lucifer nodded. “That’s when the Angels feel it too. It was God’s way of keeping their moral up in the case a war was to ever break out.”

Mark’s eyes squinted slightly. Is he telling me what I think?

Lucifer nodded once more, answering Mark’s question as if it were answered out loud. “You are, in fact, a demon-angel hybrid, Mark.”

“How is that so? That would mean you would have had to of…” Mark broke off; his mind questioning what he’s being told.

“With the inter-realm war on the verge of explosion, God couldn’t watch everything; he is too preoccupied with building up his army. Without wanting to lose control of his creation, as he calls human life, he sent five watchers, all of the highest Order of Angels. These five were his top Angels. If they stayed in Heaven, they would have led the Angelic army into the war, but now that they are scooping out Earth, they have no physical part in the war.” Lucifer paused for a moment, trying his best to read Mark’s expression. He was surprised to hear the next statement from Mark’s mouth.

“So, out of spite of God, they freelanced. You took advantage of their small rebellion and fucked them all. Tell me Lucifer, how close am I?”

“I wouldn’t go so far as to say I fucked them. I simply impregnated them with the seed of a Demon; and what do you get when you mix the seed of a demon with the egg of an Angel.”

“This isn’t Sex Ed.” Mark snarled and continued. “What I don’t get is why he gave Angles the ability to reproduce.”

“Incase Heaven ever needed to be repopulated. Heaven and hell are not much different from your homeland. There are communities, there are minor civil wars, and shit does happen. In fact, that shit that God prepared for by giving his Angels the ability to give birth is happening.”

Mark’s tone seemed considerably calm as he spoke. “Why would you want an Angel-Demon hybrid, though?”

“Well, for one I did it in spite of both of them. Imagine how it makes them feel to know that, in a sense, they are working together.”

“Must really piss them off.” A smile crossed the teen’s chapped lips. “What’s the other reason?”

“If you have a little bit of both races in you, then you have no weaknesses against either one. You’re ability to see a Demon without actually seeing it is the Demon inside you. You’re ability to feel when something has gone wrong is the Angel inside you. That is how you knew to come here.” Lucifer paused for a moment, the moved closer to Mark. “There’s one more thing.”

“Let’s hear it.” Mark spoke nonchalantly.

“Somehow… someway… you have to get the other four together. I was able to channel you without being sought out,” Lucifer paused, almost as if he were afraid someone would hear, “if I try to channel them, I’ll be left out in the open too long.”

“Out in the open?” Mark’s eyebrow quirked.

“You think they would create something powerful without the ability to track it? It’s almost as if they have a tracking device on me, and whenever I use my abilities, the device goes off. The intensity of the tracking is in accordance to the power I use.”

    Mark nodded. “Understood.”

“Good luck, Mark.” Lucifer pushed past the teen, about to make his way upstairs, when a hand grabbed his shoulder.

“What happens when I find them?” Mark talked to Lucifer’s back.

“We’ll meet again when that happens.” Lucifer turned his head slowly; his eyes looked as if he were looking at a successful child. “I always knew you’d be the one to pull through. They all thought you’d cross the wrong side.”

And with that, Lucifer was gone, leaving Mark alone in the cold basement.
