    Modern Day Devils P6
    By Snake - Mark

“It is damn cold in this house, honey; would you mind turning the heat up?” Mrs. Francine Dults wrapped the blanket around her tighter as she inquired to her husband, who she figured would just tell her to do it herself.

“I’ll get it in a second; this damn t.v. is on the fritz again!” Jonathon Dultz smacked the cable box a few times, but still the screen showed gray fuzz. Giving up, he moved to the thermostat and raised the temperature from 75 to 80 degrees. “God damn France, you’ll have this house melted before you stay the least bit cold, won’t you?”

“I don’t like being cold, Jon. Twelve years of being with me and you still haven’t realized that?” Francine seemed insulted as she spoke to him.

“Oh come on baby. You know I pay close attention to you, but I can’t know everything,” Jon climbed onto the couch beside his wife and ran his hand through her hair. “Now, what do you want?” His voice sounded sincere and sweet as he spoke.

“Oh you know what I want,” She spoke as her hand rested gently on this inside of his thigh and slowly moved up.

“Oh is that so? Well, what if I want the same exact thing.”

“You’re not alone,” A voice whispered softly into Jon’s ear.

    “I hope not baby.”

“What?” Francine looked at her husband oddly.

    “I said I hope not.”

    “I didn’t say anything, Jon.”

“What do you mean you didn’t say anything? Clearly I heard you say ‘you’re not alone’.”

“Jon, I didn’t say anything. Maybe you’re just hearing things.”

“I’m not hearing things.” The voice whispered again, this time in the mind of Francine.

“Well, you must be if you think I said something.” She retorted.

Jon tilted his head. “What? What are you talking about?”

“You said you don’t think you’re hearing things.”

    “I didn’t say anything.”

Francine pushed Jon away from her and stood, the blanket still wrapped around her.

    “Baby, are you okay?”

“Shh. I hear something.” Francine moved towards the TV. and knelt in front of it. “Don’t you hear it? Kind of like something growling?”

“I don’t hear anything.” As he spoke, though, the TV flashed and clicked on without either of them touching it. Startled, Jon nearly slid off the couch as he reached out for his wife. “Baby get over here!”

“What’s going on Jon?” She huddle into her husbands open arms and cowered against him.

    “Get the phone.”

“Why? I’m too scared to move.”

    “Just get it!”

Frightened by her husband’s sudden change of tone, she crawled away from him and to the corner table where the phone sat. Taking the cordless phone from the receiver she tossed it over to her husband who began dialing immediately.

A forceful knock on the wall caused Francine to turn and fall backwards, her eyes focused on the dining room wall that now had a rather large hole struck into it.

“Jon I’m scared shitless! Let’s just get ou…” As she turned her head to her husband, her own scream cut her off. Jon was sitting back on the couch, the phone to his ear, and blood pouring from each side of his head. The phone was pierced by something and sparked around a gash that matched the same gash that was seen on the opposite side of her husbands head.

Too divulged in fear to move, Francine watched as her husband keeled over and his blood flowed like a river onto the floor. Her eyes moved up from her husband to a glisten of light, which turned into a stream of light outlining what looked like a full grown adult. Another scream escaped her as the light disappeared and the outline it left turned out to be something horrid.

It stood at least six feet tall, its muscles fully formed. Two large, torn and scorched wings rested against its back, and in its talon tipped hand it held the sword that impaled Jon. The red eyes of the demon glared down upon Francine, and without another moment of hesitation, it struck its blade down upon the defenseless women, splitting her skull.
