    Even though Speilberg directed TLW, he has been quoted saying that sequels are nothing more than a "cheap canary trick" (From: 'Dinosaur_neill')

    Modern Day Devils
    By Snake - Mark

    First Signs

    The sky seemed to grow dark with each passing second; the wind picking up speed at a rather quick pace. The ground began to rumble and shake as the air became filled with particles of dirt and dust. The desert-like atmosphere, the empty plains, and the darkened sky were all just mere setups for the war.

    Two armies, each consisting of different races, rushed towards each other. Every second brought the two armies closer until they were no longer apart.

    Swords swung down, piercing flesh and scaled skin; demonic and angelic blood seeming to pour down like a light rain. Few attackers burst into flames, magic being used scarcely due to the tight battle.

    Wings were spread, and battle was taken to the sky where it would be fought with minor magic. The bodies that were struck in the air never reached the ground, as the entirety of them simply vanished as if to be vanquished to a permanent hell.

    The battle raged on for what seemed like mere minutes until all that was left standing was one man, who looked ne’er like a man. Two horns protruded from the bulk of his skull. Torn and scorched wings mounted onto his back; in between the two wings a sword floated mere inches from his body, as if being held by a sheath. There was complete silence for a moment after the battle had ended before the thing spoke.

    “Wake up…” The voice was soothing yet assertive. “Wake up Mark.”

    The dark sky was broken by a stream of light, the beast that once stood tall now gone. The battlefield had disappeared as well, leaving the surroundings to now be a room. Light poured into the room completely and everything began to focus.

    “Another dream?” The teenage boy sat up in his bed, sweat trickling down his for head. He matted his hair down and yawned, his eyes focusing on the reason he was awake. “Good morning mom.”

    “Morning. Your step father and I have to catch our plane in two hours, so we’re going to head off now.” She broke off and went to the window. After lifting the blinds she continued. “You know the rules. We’ll be back in two weeks.”

    “I know… I know. No girls, no kegs, no parties. I’ve been alone before.” Mark spoke drearily. “You two have a good trip.”

    Mark yawned as his mother kissed the top of his head and left, leaving her child to be completely a lone for two weeks. Mark looked around his room, the ever-familiar displays of Jurassic Park figures and posters still hanging near perfection on his walls. He let out a deep sigh and slowly got up from his place of comfort.

    “Another day of doing abso-friggin-lutely nothing.” He spoke to himself as he made his way through a mess of dirty clothes. Seeing the disorganization of the rest of his room made him think of cleaning it; but immediately the idea was dismissed from his mind completely.

    Sluggishly he pushed the bathroom door open and slipped in, not even bothering to shut or lock it. He turned towards the mirror and let out a slight gasp as he saw his reflection. “I look like hell…” Mark tried to comb down his hair, which seemed like the product of sticking a wet finger into an active socket. His eyes were bloodshot and his lips chapped. It was a usual morning for him.

    Mark made his way to the shower and knelt to the ground. He twisted the knobs until the water he would be bathing in was at the temperature he desired. A yawn escaped his lips again as he stripped off his nighttime clothes and waited for the bathtub to fill. As he stood there in the nude, he stepped in front of the mirror, giving his body a once over. He patted his stomach and sucked it in, a semi-pleased look growing onto his face. At 230 pounds, he didn’t look a pound over 200.

    Again he sighed, displeased with his shape and build, and headed back to the bath. Stopping the water, he stepped in slowly; his body adjusting to the waters temperature. As he started to sink into the water, a piercing pain ran through his back causing him to nearly jump out of the water. He slipped and slid his way out of the bathtub and nearly tripped into the mirror. With his back facing the mirror, he turned and twisted his neck, trying to get the best look at what could have caused the excruciating pain he had just felt.

    A beat of his heart was skipped as he came to find what caused such pain. Running the same path as his shoulder blades were two rather long cuts. Each seemed an inch or two deep, still red and irritated. Panicking, he reached for his shirt and checked the inside.

    “No blood…” He tossed the shirt back down and went back to the mirror. The cut was deep and painful, but there was no sign of blood anywhere on his back or his clothing.

    Frantically, he checked the rest of his body, finding no other scars or cuts. He placed his hands on the countertop and stared into the mirror. “What the hell could have happened?”

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    After Mark had finished with his bath, he had gone back to check once again on the two gashes in his back. To his amazement, and somewhat to his dissatisfaction, they were gone. There was no sign of irritation or bruising. It was as if he had been hallucinating the whole time.
    He laid back down for a few moments, not even bothering to get dressed. Staring up at the ceiling he thought, trying to understand why he had felt pain over something that wasn’t even existent. His eyes started to close slowly; and the moment they closed, he was fast asleep.
