    JURASSIC PARK, REBIRTH
    CHAPTER 4

It was late at night and Chelsea Grant sat in the hot, cramped cabin on the boat. She had her arms hugging her legs close to her chest and her head resting on her knees. The last time she was on a boat, it had been a big cruise ship with her mom, dad, aunt, uncle, and her two cousins. She was only nine, but she threw up the whole time. And this boat was a lot worse than the cruise ship; choppy, bouncy and the hot and humid temperature wasn't satisfying to an already nauseated stomach. Her head was still throbbing from where she had hit it earlier that night and she was minutes away from throwing up. With every bounce caused by a wave, her stomach churned and her head began to spin until she was dizzy. At the very moment she thought she would vomit, the sound of the door being opened was heard and she looked up to see Donovan standing there, looking at her strangely.

Donovan had walked in to see that Chelsea's face had grown incredibly pale, much different than her normal tanned skin tone. Her eyes were swollen and narrow as she looked at him, and her face was drenched with sweat beads that ran from her forehead down to her cheeks.

"You don't look so good," Donovan told her stating the obvious.

The words, 'no, really?' were floating around her head, but she was too exhausted and ill to be rude. "I think I need a bathroom," she said quietly.

But before Donovan could even answer, Chelsea covered her mouth and ran out of the door to the deck above. Luckily she ran fast enough and got her body leaned over the railing just when her stomach muscles began to spasm and she spat out the vomit. Donovan followed her above deck, but just stood behind her until she was done. Her eyes filled with tears and her throat burning from the stomach acid, she turned around and sat on the hard wooden deck and held her face in her hands. Donovan walked over and kneeled beside her.

"I know you don't feel well, but you should get back below deck now, before Hatfield sees you up here," he said kindly.

Chelsea just looked at him and wiped the last remaining tears from her eyes, and nodded her head; he was probably right. She stood up slowly and walked back down the stairs and into the cabin. Donovan had not followed her though, and Chelsea thought he had just gone to sleep, but he returned five minutes later with a few things in his hands.

"Here, I thought you might want some of these," he told her, while offering her something in his hand. It was a small round package of Dramamine and in the other hand was a can of soda. Chelsea took it from his hand, and was truly touched that he was being so kind.

"Thank you," she replied, almost feeling instantly better.

"I had some extra, and my mom always used to tell me that soda settles your stomach," he told her.

Chelsea smiled and nodded her head while she took the pills with a gulp of ice cold soda. "Do you get seasick too?" she asked. Donovan just nodded his head, but didn't answer. Chelsea smiled again and proceeded to lean back on the cushioned bench, she thought maybe she could get some sleep.

"And there's a bucket right here, incase you throw up again," he told her while placing a bucket on the floor next to her.

Chelsea smiled and nodded her head once more, leaning back on the cushioned bench.

"Okay, well goodnight," Donovan said quickly while making his way out the door.

"Goodnight," she replied, as he shut the door behind him.

    ***********

Ellie sat on a crate at the docks, as Alan paced nervously back and forth, contemplating on what they should do. The boat taking Chelsea had left about twenty minutes ago, and the two of them were extremely upset. Alan was trying to get a hold of Billy, but his cell phone was running low on battery and had no signal.

He was pounding the buttons furiously as he yelled, "What is the use of having a cell phone when it doesn't even work?"

Ellie just looked up at him, and didn't say anything. Tears were covering her eyes, as one rolled down her cheek; she hated crying, especially in front of Alan.

"What are we going to do now?" Ellie asked, finally speaking.

"I don't know," he replied, at a complete loss for ideas.

After a few minutes of silence, Ellie and Alan heard loud, quick footsteps on the docks coming towards them. It was very dark and desolate, with the exception of a single lamp post, shining a dull light on the two of them. Alan walked over to Ellie and put his arm around her, incase it was someone who might harm them. But when the figure made its way out of the darkness, they noticed it was Billy Brennan.

"Oh my god, Billy," Ellie exclaimed as she walked up to him and put her arms around him. Billy returned the hug, then let go and shook Alan's hand.

"I found out everything, where they're going, why, who's there, everything," Billy muttered fast, trying to get all the words out.

"Well what's going on?" Alan asked impatiently.

"We don't have time right now; we have to get to Isla Nublar if we want to save Chelsea," Billy explained. "Jack Hatfield and his team of armed men are headed there right now with Chelsea."

    "Isla Nublar?" Ellie questioned.

"Yes, but I can't explain it all right now, we just have to find someone to take us there, now," he repeated.

"How are we going to find someone to take us there this late at night?" Alan asked hopelessly.

"I'm going to call my friend Pete, he owes me a favor," Billy suggested. Alan looked at him strangely, but didn't question anything; he was desperate at this point.

Billy took out his cell phone from his pocket and tried to dial the numbers to his friend Pete, but it wouldn't go through.

"Well, I'm not getting any service here," Billy stated frustrated.

    "Neither are we," Ellie added.

"Well I guess I'm gonna have to ask him in person," he replied, running out of options.

"Are you sure? I mean, he might not be home, or sleeping," Ellie doubted.

"Well if it's our only hope," Alan returned, agreeing with Billy.

They all looked at each other with uncertainty and hopelessness in their eyes. Billy and Alan nodded their heads in agreement.

Ellie finally went along with it and said, "Okay."

"Well, why don't we all go? Maybe he'll be more convinced if you're there," Billy suggested.

"And you can tell us what's going on," Alan added, wanting to know why all of this was happening.

Billy, Alan, and Ellie ran off the docks and into Billy's car, racing towards his friend Pete's house. Billy had gone to college with Pete Foster and they were roommates. Pete dropped out, and Billy helped him through financial difficulties while he was struggling for a job, and the two remained close friends. Billy had been good to him, and Pete always told him that if he needed him for anything, he was always there. And today Billy would take him up on that offer.

Billy was swerving in and out of traffic, hoping he would remember where Pete lived. Although he visited him many times, he was still uncertain of the area. Ellie was in the backseat, gripping the door handle tightly, staring out onto the road for any unexpected danger. Alan was in the passenger seat, staring at the road as well.

"So why is this happening?" Alan asked Billy nervously.

"Well, I found out that BioSyn is behind all of this," he reported

Alan shook his head in disgust; it came as no surprise to hear that. "How?" he asked.

"Well, Lewis Dodgson has hired a very rich man by the name of Jack Hatfield to fund his projects. I guess BioSyn is out of money, so now they're relying heavily on investors, the most prominent being Hatfield."

"Hatfield… that was who I ran into earlier on the boat," Alan said to himself, loud enough for everyone to hear.

"But I still don't know why they would want to take Chelsea? They have the formula now, why not just give her back to us?!" Ellie exclaimed angrily.

"Dodgson and Hatfield want you on that island, Alan," Billy admitted.

    "What? Why?" Alan yelled.

"That I don't know, but all I know is that they want you there. And they're taking Chelsea, so you will go there and rescue her."

"Why are they going there?" Ellie questioned.

"After you guys left Nublar back in 1993, Hammond left everything there, nothing was taken or destroyed and no one has been back since. Dodgson is going down there to get as much information as they can that was left behind."

"Why does he want me down there?" Alan asked himself out loud.

"I don't know," Billy and Ellie replied simultaneously.

About ten minutes later, Billy finally found his way onto Pete's street and pulled into his driveway. His car was there and a few lights were on in the house. Billy, Alan, and Ellie quietly made their way to the front door and knocked on it nervously. They heard footsteps and the door finally opened, revealing a tall, muscular man in his early thirties with unkept curly bleach blonde hair and a tanned body. When he saw Billy, his eyes widened in delight and threw the door open.

"Billy! What are you doing here man?" he asked excitedly while shaking his hand and hugging him with his free hand.

"I know this is late, and real last minute, but I need your help Pete," Billy said seriously, getting right to the point.

"Yeah, come in," he said extending the door for Billy, Alan, and Ellie.

They walked into Pete's house and Ellie almost laughed at the site of it. It fit him perfectly; there were surfboards leaned up against the wall, dishes in the sink and clothes lying on the floor everywhere.

"Pete, this is Dr. Alan Grant, and his wife Ellie," he said introducing them.

Pete shook Alan's and Ellie's hand and politely said hi.

"What's up Billy?" Pete asked nervously, hoping it wasn't something too horrible by the seriousness in Billy's voice.

"I really, really need you to do me a big favor," Billy started.

    "Ya, anything, what?" Pete replied.

"Could you possibly bring us to an island in your boat?"

"When and where?" Pete asked, wanting to know details.

"Well, as soon as possible, and to an island off the coast of Costa Rica," Billy replied.

"Costa Rica? You're not talking about…" Pete began.

"Yeah, Isla Nublar," Billy responded, finishing Pete's thought.

"Billy, you're my best friend and you know I'd do anything for you, but going to Isla Nublar is a bad idea," Pete explained.

"I know it's suicide going there, but a person's life is at stake and we need to get there," Billy pleaded.

    "Who's life?" Pete questioned.

"Our sixteen year old daughter, Chelsea," Alan interrupted, while handing a picture to him from his wallet.

"How did she get on this island?" he asked, staring at the picture.

"She was kidnapped, and they're on their way right now," Ellie told him hopelessly.

"Do you know why, or who kidnapped her?" Pete asked.

"Lewis Dodgson and Jack Hatfield, they took Chelsea to get Alan down to the island," Billy answered.

    "Why?" Pete persisted.

"We don't know, but I really need to get to that island to save my daughter, can you please help us Mr. Foster?" Ellie begged.

Pete stood silent for a few seconds as he looked at the picture of the girl again. She was a very beautiful girl, and looked so innocent. He knew Isla Nublar meant trouble, but denying this girl's parents the right to rescue her was something he couldn't do.

"Yeah, of course I'll help," he finally answered.

"Oh! Thank you so much Mr. Foster!" Alan exclaimed while shaking Pete's hand.

"Please, call me Pete, and I will be glad to help you get your daughter back," he reassured them.

"Pete thanks a lot!" Billy replied sincerely while shaking his hand.

"It's the least I can do," he countered. "Let's get moving, it takes about 30 minutes to get my boat ready."

    ********

It was the middle of the night and Alan Grant and his wife, Ellie were sitting on the deck of Pete Foster's boat, on their way to Isla Nublar. They were both extremely nervous about going there, but just wanted their daughter back. They were sitting on a bench facing the back of the boat, staring out onto the water they had sailed over. For reasons that Alan or Ellie did not know, Chelsea was taken along with the formula John Hammond had left them, to Isla Nublar. Ellie was distraught, she had no idea what was going on. All she knew was that her daughter was taken from her and she wanted her back. But why us? She asked herself. That was the confusing part, why they would kidnap Chelsea, why John Hammond would give them the formula in the first place or why they wanted Alan down on that island. It was all too confusing for Ellie to understand right now, she just wanted her daughter back.

Alan was getting extremely nervous and uptight; he was really worried about Chelsea. In fact, it almost made Ellie smile that he loved Chelsea so much and was so worried. She thought back to eighteen years ago when Alan didn't want a child. He never got along with kids, until they met Lex and Tim who showed him they weren't that bad. After they got back from Isla Nublar in 1993, Ellie was different, her whole demeanor changed completely. Grant on the other hand fell more in love with Ellie then he already was, and wanted to be with her for the rest of their lives. That was what Ellie wanted all along, but now she was different, and needed a break from everything. She left Alan for a little while and went back to Virginia where she was from, to really think about things and hopefully heal her scars that were caused by Jurassic Park.

Six months away, she realized she needed and loved Alan Grant, and when she returned, he was more than happy to be with her and take her back. He asked her to marry him and three months later they were married, and a year after that, Ellie was pregnant with Chelsea. It took a while for Alan to get excited, but as the time came, he was anxiously awaiting the birth of their daughter. While Ellie sat around their home in Colorado, resting, Alan prepared their house by baby proofing doors and cabinets and even surprised Ellie one day when he painted and decorated a room just for the baby.

When she finally arrived in mid-April, Alan and Ellie both were overcome with complete love and joy. Ellie fell so deeply in love with her, she never knew she could love another person that much. But she did and was completely happy with her life, her daughter and her husband. She was the happiest she had been in two years. Her emotional scars were healing, and her life was returning to normal.

But now, she was beginning to feel the same fear she had experienced eighteen years ago. The only person she loved more than Alan Grant was Chelsea, and now her life was in grave danger. Fearing for your own life was a horrible feeling that Ellie didn't want Chelsea going through, like she had. She thought about Chelsea's beautiful face and just wanted it to be staring back at her. She certainly was a beautiful girl, her mother's and father's traits had combined perfectly to form a beautiful person on the outside; soft, blue eyes, dark blonde hair, just like her father and a tall, slender body, extremely similar to Ellie's. But she was also beautiful on the inside too. She had her mother's kind heart and same tenacious, goal oriented personality, but also her father's sense of adventure, and independence and the thirst for knowledge and learning that Alan Grant had prided himself in.

Ellie sat back and remembered the day eleven summers ago, when Chelsea was the young, innocent age of five years old. They were to spend the summer in Montana, and Chelsea ran off one day "exploring" although Ellie had warned her not to go anywhere, but she didn't listen and got lost. Alan, Ellie, Billy, and a few other volunteers from the dig site spent all day and all night looking for her. They finally found her at around one in the morning, sitting on a big boulder looking up at the night sky. When her parents asked her what had happened, she replied innocently, "I was camping under the stars." Alan and Ellie couldn't help but laugh at her innocence and how cute she was, and they really could not get mad at her. Ellie smiled as she thought about this, and Alan had noticed that her worried demeanor had changed to a more relaxed and happy one.

"What?" he asked, questioning the smile on her face.

"Remember when Chelsea got lost?" she asked with a smile. Alan's eyes widened, as he became nervous that he would be in trouble with his wife.

"How did you find about it?" he asked nervously.

Ellie sat up and looked at Alan like he had lost his mind. "Find out about it? Alan, I was there…" she told him.

But Alan was still lost; he sat there with a puzzled look on his face, wondering why Ellie thought she was there at the grocery store.

"At the dig site, when she ran off, and we found her 'camping under the stars'," she reminded him, while quoting Chelsea's young words.

Alan relaxed as he remembered what had happened that summer and started to chuckle.

"Why, what were you talking about?" she asked him, not letting him get away with whatever he was hiding.

But Alan just smiled nervously as he scratched his head, not wanting to reveal the secret.

"What?" she persisted while nudging him with her elbow.

    "Nothing," he replied.

"Alan Grant…" she demanded while glaring at him.

"I lost her in a grocery store one time…" he admitted shyly.

    "What, when?" she asked, surprised.

"I think she was about six, maybe seven, and she persisted on going with me to the grocery store. I told her not to run off, but she did, and I spent a half an hour just looking for her," he told her, smiling, reminiscing about what had happened.

But Ellie couldn't get mad at him. She just found it funny that he was afraid to tell her all these years, so she started to laugh at the thought of it.

"You're laughing?" he commented, thinking if she wasn't going to get upset, why he hadn't told her ten years ago. But every time Alan got mad for Ellie's absurd laughing or giggling, it made her continue, and not want to stop.

"Oh, Alan," she sighed, while leaning her head on his shoulder. Alan lifted his arm up and wrapped it around Ellie as he held her close and kissed the top of her head.

"We'll get her back, Ellie," he reassured her.

"I know, I'm just worried," she admitted as she held onto Alan a little tighter.

"Me too… me too," he repeated, trying to make her feel better.

    ********

It was very early in the morning and the sun was just beginning to rise above the waves of the ocean. Jack Hatfield was sitting on the deck of the boat, looking out onto the water with a cold, empty stare. Hatfield showed no emotions, except anger and it was clear he was dead inside. He was just standing there, saying nothing, thinking to himself when he heard a voice behind him.

"Mr. Hatfield, there is a small problem," the voice said quietly behind him.

Jack turned around and saw it was one of Captain Ross's crewmembers.

    "What's the matter?" he asked.

"Captain Ross says we're approaching the island, but he says he is expecting bad weather, and we'll have to enter through the east dock," he answered.

"The east dock, are you kidding?" Hatfield asked angrily.

"No sir, Captain Ross is expecting a storm, and the waters are too shallow by the west dock, and the chances of us crashing are much greater."

"Dammit," Hatfield muttered to himself, while storming off to the captain's quarters.

Hatfield arrived at the bridge minutes later, slamming the door behind him furiously.

"Joe tells me we're arriving through the east dock?" he yelled.

"Yes sir, Mr. Hatfield, it's the only way to get on the island," the boat captain, Kevin Ross started.

"No, absolutely not, we are going through the west dock!"

"Sir, we can't! The waters are too shallow and with a storm on its way the water will no doubt be a lot shallower. Our chances of scraping the bottom are too high, and I won't risk damaging my boat."

"Well I can't risk my men being injured or killed," Hatfield countered.

"I'm sure it will be fine Mr. Hatfield," Ross said reassuringly.

"The east dock is situated too close to the carnivores, and invading their territory is a fatal mistake!" Hatfield continued to yell.

"Yes, I am aware of that, but I would rather want a way back off the island instead of being stranded there because my boat was damaged."

Hatfield stood there silently, staring at Ross. He had a valid point, and didn't know what to say.

"Okay… you're the captain," he gave in quietly.

    *********

Chelsea awoke slowly as sunlight entered the cabin where she was sleeping. She saw the door was open, but no one was there. She figured Donovan had left the door open for her that night so she could get some fresh air and feel better. She focused her attention on her physical condition and realized she was feeling much better, but also realized the boat was not moving anymore. As she thought to herself, still lying down, trying to wake up, she heard footsteps coming down the stairs that led to the cabin she was in so she quickly closed her eyes and turned and faced the opposite direction.

"Get up Ms. Grant!" the voice yelled loudly. Chelsea turned around, hoping it would be Donovan, who had been so nice to her the night before. But was disappointed when she saw it was Hatfield, staring at her with those cold, angry eyes.

"Now!" he demanded. Chelsea just nodded her head and slowly lifted her head up off the cushioned bench and swung her feet over the side, about to stand up. Hatfield smiled eerily; he enjoyed it when things went his way.

When Chelsea had stood up, he grabbed her arm and led her upstairs to the deck, where a few men were walking around, getting supplies together. Chelsea looked at all the ammunition they carried and the men who looked incredibly nervous. Her heart dropped when she looked out beyond the boat, and saw an island, covered in lush jungle.

"Where are we?" she asked Hatfield quietly who was still holding onto her arm.

Hatfield looked down at Chelsea, but didn't say a word to her. He looked up at the men who were almost completely prepared and yelled, "Let's get going, we don't want to stay here any longer than we have to." And the armed men made their way off the boat.

Hatfield let go of Chelsea's arm and put on a backpack, then led her off the boat. When they landed on the sand of the beach, Hatfield reached into his pocket and pulled out a gun. He held it in his hand, and pushed it against Chelsea's shoulder, motivating her to walk. She started walking, and Hatfield still had his gun close to him as they entered the jungle, following the heavily armed men.

"Welcome to Jurassic Park," he said, finally answering Chelsea's previous question. Chelsea's eyes widened in terror, as she realized, this was just as she had feared.

    **********

"How much longer, Pete?" Billy asked as they were sailing quickly over the choppy waters.

"Probably about an hour and a half more," Pete answered while steering the boat carefully.

"Can this thing go any faster?" Billy asked anxiously.

"Hey, don't worry. We'll get there, and we'll save her," he reassured him, trying to calm him down.

"I know," he agreed, but he still couldn't help being uptight.

"Billy, who is this girl, why do you want to save her so bad?" he asked, never really hearing about her before.

"I've known her pretty much her whole life, she's been like a sister to me," he admitted.

"You've never talked about her before," Pete replied.

"I know, but I really care about her, and her parents have been good to me. I have to get her back."

"I know we'll get her back."

"No, you don't understand Pete! If it weren't for me, she wouldn't be out there right now!" he snapped.

"What do you mean?" Pete asked, staying calm, just listening to Billy.

"I was running late, stuck in a meeting, and within those fifteen minutes, she was gone," Billy answered sadly, disappointed in himself.

Pete finally understood why Billy was so nervous; he was feeling guilty for leaving Chelsea by herself.
