    Jurassic Park, Rebirth
    A Fan-Fiction by JPfan4life

*This story isn’t going to make much sense after watching Jurassic Park III. So, lets pretend that Alan and Ellie never broke up, Ellie never got married and had kids, and this is kind of like Jurassic park III… a new version, a REBIRTH

This story takes place about 18 years after the 1993 incident on Isla Nublar. This introduction is going to be somewhat long, so bare with me; this is my first attempt at fan fiction. There will be no dinosaur action until a little later in the story.*

John Hammond sat in his wheelchair in his office. He was searching through papers of some sort and it appeared that he was in deep thought. He stared at his cane that was leaning up against the wall. It still had the piece of amber with a mosquito inside. He wheeled himself over and got his cane. He held it in his hands and stared at the amber. He was saddened when he thought of what promises it held. The amber on his cane was a symbol of his vision, his dream and his life. That dream was dead, along with a lot of innocent people. How could he convince others to share his vision? He wheeled his wheelchair back over to his desk and picked up the telephone.

“Parker,” a voice said on the other end of the line.

“Tom… this is John Hammond, I need you to do me a big favor,”

“What kind of favor?” he asked intrigued. Whenever John Hammond called him up, he always had something interesting to ask, definitely out of the usual.

“I need you to write me up a legal document, it is vitally important,”

“It’s vitally important?” Tom Parker questioned.

“Yes, I am going to add something to my will, but I need authorization to make it legal,”

“John, I would love to help you out, I really would, but you know I’m not a lawyer,”

“I know Tom, but you do work for one, couldn’t you pull some strings?” Hammond asked

“Why can’t you just get a real lawyer to do your work if it’s just an addition to your will? Why contact me?”

“Because any other lawyer wouldn’t understand and this is a sensitive case that I need a friend to help me out in!” Hammond pleaded.

Tom sat there, trying to make a decision as to what to do. He was silent for a few moments, and then he spoke up,

“I’m not making any promises, but I’ll see what I can do,”

“Tom, you have no idea what this means to me!” Hammond said in excitement.

“But…” Tom started to say, “There is something I need from you in return,”

    “And what is that?”

“Well, to be honest, I’m a little short on cash right now. I’m trying to get my son through college, and its not easy with a mediocre job and a shop-a-holic wife,” tom offered.

“How much do you want?” Hammond sighed as he asked. Tom Parker worked for a lawyer, and it was obvious why, he was a sly one.

“I was thinking along the lines of $100,000,” Parker responded with a hopeful tone in his voice.

This was an actual reasonable request to Hammond. Most people would ask him for at least a few million.

“Done, I’ll come by your office tomorrow and perhaps you’ll take a look,”

“I’ll see you then John,” And they both hung up the phone.

    ****************

    ...One year later

It was a hot, sticky, summer day in the incredibly boring state of Montana. Chelsea Grant walked out of her parent’s trailer late in the morning after she woke up and ate breakfast. She walked to the top of the hill and looked down at the new skeleton they had dug up yesterday and were still working on today. She saw her mother and father lying on their stomachs, sprawled out in the dirt like little kids, coloring on the floor. She walked down the hill slowly and when she finally reached the bottom, she stood behind her parents. Her shadow blocked the sun, and they both simultaneously looked up and behind them.

“Well, look who decided to join us today!” Chelsea’s father, the famous paleontologist, Dr. Alan Grant teased.

Chelsea smiled sarcastically at the joke, like she did every morning. The joke was really getting old. Her mother, Dr. Ellie Grant looked at her watch, noticing how late it was, said to her daughter, “It’s getting later and later every morning!”

Chelsea was now 16 years old, and it was really tiring hearing the same comment day after day. She knew she was a teenager and she knew she liked to sleep late, but it actually annoyed her parents, they thought she was a lazy teenager, but she reassured herself that they just liked to get up early.

“Yeah, yeah, I slept late… I can’t help it!” she protested

“Yes you can, it’s called not staying up until two in the morning talking online,” Alan replied sarcastically.

Chelsea thought about this for a moment, and realized he was probably right, but there was no way he was winning this battle, she thought to herself.

“Well what else am I supposed to do? You drag me here every summer to play in the dirt, and the only time I can talk to my friends is at night!" she rudely replied.

Chelsea and her father were getting upset with each other and their playful teasing was now about to be blown up into a father, daughter fight, like usual. Ellie just sat there, watching the two of them, and giggling to herself, almost laughing.

“Okay you two! Not today, ok?” Ellie demanded jokingly.

Chelsea rolled her eyes and walked away, kicking the dirt as she walked while Alan and Ellie returned back down to their previous positions.

“Why does she hate me?” Alan said.

Ellie laughed and patted him on the shoulders.

“She’s a teenager, and you’re her father… that’s why,” She answered him, laughing.

“It’s not funny!” he said seriously, glaring at her, which made her laugh even more.

After the 1993 incident on Isla Nublar, Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler split up for a while. Life wasn’t the same for either of them, so they got back together. This time, they got married and after a while of arguing and contemplating, they decided to have a child together. She was the joy of their life and the best decision they ever made. Her name is Chelsea and she is almost all grown up, 16 years old. She is a beautiful girl, with features from her beautiful mother and handsome father. She is tall with dark blonde hair and soft blue eyes like her father. Chelsea is also very intelligent, but unfortunately, not at all interested in dinosaurs, or so her parents think.

“Alan, or Ellie, either one, you have a call,” a voice from behind the two doctors yelled out, it was one of the volunteers from the dig site. Alan and Ellie looked at each other, contemplating on who should take this call. Ellie put her hands flat on the ground and lifted herself up.

“I’ll take it, it’s probably Dr. Burns anyway, he said he was going to call sometime this morning,” She replied. Grant nodded and went right back to work, brushing away the dirt from their newly discovered skeleton.

After about 15 minutes away, Ellie finally came back but there was a sad look on her face.

“Who was that?” he asked her, wondering why the call put her in a bad mood.

“John Hammond died,” she said simply.

    “What?” he replied, stunned.

“He died late last night… heart complications I guess; I mean the guy was pretty old,”

“That’s terrible. We should probably send a card to Lex and Tim,” He suggested kindly.

“Well, it gets weird…” she started to say, hoping Alan wouldn’t get upset.

“Uh-oh,” he simply said, expecting the worst.

“Yeah, well, apparently we were left something in his will, and his family wanted you and me to come down there for the funeral and the reading of his will,”

“We were left in his will?” he asked, puzzled.

“I guess so,” she answered, not really knowing why herself.

“Maybe he’s finally repaying us for the hell he put us through 17 years ago…” he started to say with an angry tone in his voice.

Ellie didn’t reprimand him for the comment though, because she was just as angry about it as he was.

    “Yeah… maybe,” she said quietly.

Alan pondered to himself for a while. Bringing that whole subject up was sensitive and he really didn’t like to talk about it. It seemed like just yesterday he was running away from t-rex and raptors, and he was absolutely astonished it had been 17 years since it all happened.

“Wow… it’s been 17 years, Ellie!” he commented.

“Almost 18,” she added, correcting him.

Alan then remembered that it actually had almost been 18, and he nodded his head and went right back to work. They were silent after that, because neither one of them enjoyed the subject.

About a half hour later, Chelsea came back down the hill and found her parents right where she left them. She stood next to them and looked down at the fossilized skeleton in the ground and stared at it for a while.

“What is it?” Chelsea asked, making conversation. She already knew the answer to the question, but she liked to keep her interest in dinosaurs hidden. She figured that if they knew about it, they would force her to do stuff with them that frankly, she found incredibly boring. Ellie looked up from her work and looked at her daughter, with her hand cupped around her forehead, blocking the bright Montana sun.

“What’s what?” she replied, not understanding what Chelsea was thinking.

“That dinosaur, what kind is it?” she repeated a little more clearly while pointing to the ground. Alan was now looking at her as well, he butted into the conversation.

“It’s a ceratsaurus,” He answered for Ellie.

Chelsea nodded her head, and then laid down next to her parents. She grabbed a brush and started brushing away the dust and dirt, just like her parents were. Alan looked at Chelsea and smiled to himself, proud of his little girl, digging in the dirt, just like he was.

“Chels, like this, in small strokes,” Alan suggested, demonstrating how to brush away the dirt.

“Oh, right…” she replied, remembering how to do it.

    “Hey mom…” Chelsea began.

Ellie kept her eyes on the fossil, but responded with a quiet, "huh?"

“I couldn’t help but overhear, that John Hammond had died,” She stated

“When did you hear that?” she asked, confused, because she didn’t realize Chelsea was around when she was talking to Alan about it.

“I was in the trailer when you were on the phone, I was in the bathroom, and I heard the whole thing,” she replied

“Oh… yeah, well the old guy died,”

Chelsea thought to herself, ‘well obviously’, but she kept the conversation going,

“What did he leave you in his will?”

“I have no idea, maybe money?” she answered with a hopeful tone in her voice

“Well, are you going to the funeral?”

“I don’t know, we haven’t really talked about it much,”

“When is it?” Alan asked, joining his two favorite girls in conversation.

“I think it’s this Saturday, but it could be Sunday. I don’t really know,” Ellie replied

    “Where is it?” Chelsea asked

“California, San Clemente, where his family lives,” she stated

    “Lex and Tim?”

“Uh, ya I guess, I’m not sure, why?” she asked, annoyed, as she asked her a million questions.

“Because if you go, I want to go,” Chelsea said

“That’s probably not a good idea…” Ellie began

“Why?” Alan asked Chelsea, confused as to why anyone would want to go to a funeral. He hated them.

“I don’t know, I’ve never been to California and I want to meet them,” Chelsea answered

“Who honey?” Ellie asked, again not following Chelsea's thoughts.

“Lex and Tim!” she said with an annoyed tone in her voice.

“Oh,” Ellie realized. “Well, you’ll meet them one day, but I don’t think they’re grandfather’s funeral is a good place to start,” she answered.

“Maybe your right,” Chelsea agreed as she sighed and got back to work.

After a few minutes of silence, Alan suddenly remembered he needed something, but didn’t feel like getting up. That’s why he had a child, to do his errands, he thought to himself, almost laughing.

“Hey Chels… could you run to Dr. Taylor's trailer and get me some glue?” he asked her, calling her by her nickname, which was really just a shortened version of Chelsea, but was easier to say.

She didn’t really want to, but reluctantly got up and said, “sure.”

“Thank you,” he replied with a smile, while she walked up the hill, to where all the trailers were.

On her way up to Dr. Taylor's trailer, she ran into her favorite guy in Montana, Billy Brennan. Her father was Billy’s mentor, and he looked up to him. But Chelsea looked up to Billy. He was always so nice to her and she thought of him like an older brother, he was always looking out for her. He had been around a long time and she had known him since she was four years old.

“HEY BRENNAN!” she yelled, so he could hear her

Billy looked behind him and saw Chelsea walking towards him

“Uh-oh! Here comes trouble!” he exclaimed when she was closer to him.

“Ya, well you still owe me twenty bucks, since I kicked your ass at pool last week!” she said laughing.

“Ya, ya, your right… I should pay up, but you know me Chels, I never do!” he replied smiling. He put his arm around her shoulder and rubbed the top of her head

Chelsea loved having Billy around, he was the closest person to her age around the dig site, and she could actually be herself when she was with him. They had a very close relationship, and they told each other everything. They went out frequently together as well, to a quick dinner, and a game of pool or something, but It was just a time where she could be herself, relax, and get away from her parents for a little bit. The good thing was that her parents really trusted Billy. Although there was a 15 year age gap between the two of them, they knew they had a great friendship and encouraged it, especially since they dragged her out to this boring place for three whole months.

“Where ya’ headed dork?” he asked jokingly.

“Dr. Taylor's trailer, getting glue for my dad,” she answered.

“Aww… isn’t that sweet? You’re such a good daughter,” he teased

Chelsea glared at him, then ignored the comment

“We still on for tonight jerk?” she asked

“Oh, crap…” he started to say.

    “Oh no, what?”

“I can’t hang out with you tonight babe… I’m sorry!”

“You gotta hot date or something?”

Billy just smiled at the last comment… he did have a hot date, but he didn’t want to jinx it, because it was looking good.

“Wow, You have a hot date!” she exclaimed, astonished.

“You sound surprised,” he said confidently.

“Well where would you meet a woman out here in the middle of nowhere?” she asked

“I’ll tell you ALL about it tomorrow, or maybe when I get back tonight,” he replied, not wanting to talk about it.

“C’mon! Who is it?!” she persisted, but Billy just started to walk away

“BILLY!” she yelled. “Damn,” she commented to herself when he had walked away and realized he wasn’t going to tell her.

Alan and Ellie were still working on the skeleton, when they decided to take a break.

“Do you want to go?” Ellie asked, referring to the funeral

“I don’t know Ellie, do you?”

“I’m not sure, I mean I think it would be rude to take stuff from the old man in his will but no show up at the funeral,” she suggested.

“Yeah… you have a point” he replied.

On Friday afternoon, Alan and Ellie had all their bags packed and were ready to leave. They were going to California for John Hammond’s funeral and Alan was not looking forward to it. He didn’t exactly like John Hammond. The only real good reason he wanted to go, was to see Lex and Tim, whom he hadn’t seen in about 10 years. They said goodbye to Chelsea who was staying home by herself all weekend and Billy, who told them he would hang out with her all weekend. They got into the car and drove off to the airport.

    ***************

“Alan, Ellie!!” a voice yelled from across a room. They were in California now at John Hammond's funeral. It hadn't begun yet and they were all waiting around for it to start. Alan and Ellie turned around and noticed it was Lex, walking fast towards them.

“Lex, how are you doing?!” Alan asked while giving her a big hug.

    “I’m okay… all things considered,”

“We are very sorry about your grandfather,”

“Yeah, me too… but it’s really nice to see you guys!” she said, trying to keep her sprits up.

“Yeah it is, it’s nice to see you too,” they both answered while Ellie had her turn in giving Lex a hug.

“So how is your daughter? Chelsea, right?” she asked, trying to remember her name. Alan and Ellie had kept in touch with Lex and Tim everyone once in a while, sending them a Christmas card and such, but they hadn't seen eachother a whole lot.

“Yeah, Chelsea, and she’s good. She wanted to come and meet you guys, but I said it probably wasn’t a good idea,” Ellie answered

“Speaking of you guys, where is your brother?” Alan asked, looking around the room for Tim.

“Oh, Tim isn’t here yet. He is going to be late unfortunately,” she answered with a frown on her face.

“Why is he going to be late?” Ellie asked, wondering why someone could be late to their own grandfather’s funeral.

“He is out of town, and the earliest flight he could have gotten was this morning, so his plane isn’t landing for another 15 minutes,”

Alan and Ellie both shook their heads in understanding.

“Well, I have to go be with my mom right now, but we’ll talk after this,” Lex said

“Okay, we’ll see you later,” Ellie replied

“It is so nice to see you both, it really is,” Lex repeated. She was really touched to see them here.

    “You too,” Alan replied.

    ***************

Chelsea sat on the couch in the trailer, reading a book that her father wrote about dinosaurs, his theories and experiences on Jurassic park. She really looked up to him and admired everything he did, she just didn’t show it all the time, and didn't know how to tell him that. It was Saturday night, and getting dark out. Billy was supposed to pick her up at 8:00 and take her out to dinner, and it was now 7:30. She had her full attention into the book, and was startled when the phone rang.

“Hello?” she answered the phone in a friendly voice

    “Chelsea, its Billy,”

    “Hey,”

“I am going to be a little late,” he started to say.

Chelsea groaned in disappointment like a little kid, “why?” she asked

“Because I’m stuck here in a meeting and I’m only going to be 15 to 20 minutes late,” he said trying to convince her.

“Oooh, alright, fine,” she gave in.

“Alright, I'll get there as soon as I can,” he reassured her.

    “Okay then, see you soon,”

“Okay, Bye,” and they both hung up. Chelsea rolled her eyes and went back to reading.

A little while later, at around 10 after 8, Chelsea was sitting at the kitchen counter, talking to some people online on the laptop computer that her mom owned. Well, it was actually her father's, but he hardley touched the thing, since he hated computers. She was waiting for Billy to come get her, they could go out to dinner at a local diner. It was quiet and dark outside and it was also really hot, so she had all the windows open and the door was slightly ajar as well. She heard a car pull up, so she shut the top of the laptop and got up from her seat, grabbed her sweater and purse and started for the door. When she got to the door, she noticed it wasn’t Billy’s car, or Billy getting out of it. It was a guy she had never seen before. She wasn’t really alarmed until he made his way for the trailer. She was all by herself in the middle of nowhere; the closest trailer was Dr. Taylor's, but he wasn’t even there, he had gone out that night with his wife. Not knowing who the guy was, she didn’t want to take any chances, so she quickly ran to the back of the trailer and hid behind a table. The guy barged into the trailer and started rummaging through piles of papers on her parent’s desk. She was watching the whole thing from her hiding space and after 10 minutes of the big man practically destroying the trailer, the guy yelled, “Harlow!” and another, smaller man appeared in the doorway

    “What is it?”

“Sir, I don’t think they have it,”

“It has to be here, keep looking!” he ordered the big man.

“Yes sir,” the man said reluctantly.

Chelsea was scared to death, and had no idea what was going on. The name Harlow seemed really familiar to her, but she couldn’t put a finger on it. The big man started mumbling something under his breath, and then he threw up his hands and walked out of the trailer in frustration. Relieved, Chelsea came out of hiding, and peeked through the window. She saw the smaller man, Harlow, yelling at the big man. Then Harlow came running to the trailer, but Chelsea was out in the open. She jumped to the floor, but it was too late, her body landing on the ground made a loud enough noise for Harlow to find her. He walked over to her and grabbed her by the arm and pulled her up off the ground.

“Well, well, if it isn’t Chelsea Grant!” he said in an eager, creepy voice.

Chelsea didn’t answer, she just stared at him, in fear.

“What are you doing here? You are supposed to be out of town Ms. Grant!” he told her.

“Change of plans,” she said simply. It was scaring the hell out of her that a man was looking through their trailer and found her watching them and forcefully held onto her. But she didn’t want to show her fear, so she stayed tough.

“Hmm… interesting, I guess my plans will have to change now,” He told her. “Donovan!” Harlow yelled.

The man, supposedly named Donovan came running in and saw Harlow holding Chelsea by the arm.

“Look who I found Donovan!” he said happily. Donovan looked at them both and smiled with an evil grin.

“Take care of her,” Harlow ordered Donovan, while throwing Chelsea at him.

“Yes sir,” Donovan answered, holding onto Chelsea’s arm and leading her out the door.

The guy named Donovan held Chelsea’s arm very tightly, and it was starting to hurt. She tried to wiggle herself loose, but her struggling just made his grip tighten. They were walking to the car, and when they reached it, Donovan opened the door to the backseat and threw her in the car forcefully. Donovan followed and got in after her. He sat right next to Chelsea and took out his cell phone from his pocket. He dialed a number and waited a few seconds.

“Mr. Hatfield, we have a situation” Donovan stated to the person on the other end
“We have stumbled across Chelsea Grant……….. What am I supposed to do about this sir?............ I thought so too, sir………… Well leaving her here wouldn’t be a good idea either…………. Yes that’s true …………… No we haven’t found it yet, But I think Harlow is still looking………… Yes sir, goodbye,” and Donovan closed his cell phone shut.

Just then, Harlow appeared at the car and got into the driver’s seat.

“It's not here,” he stated. Donovan was pissed, he could have told him this ten minutes ago.

“So what do you suggest we do?” Donovan asked, annoyed.

    “Did you talk to Jack?”

“Yes, he said to take her along, especially if we didn’t find it,”

“Good plan lets go,” Harlow answered. He turned around and started the car, put it in drive and left the dig site.

    ***************

After the funeral had ended, Alan and Ellie went to the reception at John Hammond’s daughter’s house. While at the funeral, they stumbled across Dr. Ian Malcolm, who had been invited too, and was talking their ears off with all this chaos stuff that Grant found extremely annoying. He also was still trying to hit on Ellie, maybe he didn’t realize they were married now. Grant just smiled and nodded listening to the crazy man ramble on. Alan looked around the room in boredom and spotted Lex and Tim sitting together, talking. He decided to not listen to Malcolm anymore, so he excused himself and walked over to Lex and Tim.

“Are you guys having as much fun as I am?” Alan asked the two, sarcastically.

Lex turned and looked at where Alan was previously sitting and saw Malcolm and Ellie talking. Then she started to laugh

“Does he realize that you two are married now?” she asked blatantly, while laughing.

“Probably,” he replied seriously, and then a short laugh came out. “But how are you guys holding up?” he asked trying to be considerate.

“Were doing okay… I guess,” Tim replied with a frown on his face.

“We were expecting it would happen very soon, but it’s still sad,” Lex added.

Grant just nodded his head in agreement, he didn't really know what to say.

“So tell me about Chelsea! I really would have liked to meet her,” Lex said, trying to lighten the mood and switch to a different topic.

“Yeah, she wanted to come, but Ellie said no,” Grant returned, happily changing the subject.

“What is she like?” Tim asked, joining in.

“She’s 16 now!” he stated with a look of amazement on his face. He couldn’t believe how old she was. “She’s your typical teenager I guess. She sleeps in late, and is always mad at me,” he said while laughing.

Lex and Tim laughed at this statement as well, fully understanding what he was talking about.

“Actually, she should really thank you two,” he admitted.

Lex and Tim looked at each other, confused. “For what?” they both asked simultaneously.

“I used to hate kids, they were my worst enemy,”

“Yeah, we know that Dr. Grant,” Tim added jokingly.

Alan laughed, “Yeah, well I realized kids weren’t so bad after I met you two and went through that…. Pleasant trip,” he said sarcastically, obviously referring to Jurassic park.

Lex and Tim smiled slightly, remembering the horrible events that took place almost 18 years ago.

“Thanks, Dr. Grant,” Tim said and the three of them just smiled at each other.

    ***************

Back in Montana, Chelsea was sitting in silence in the back of Harlow’s car. She was so scared, and just wished someone knew what had happened. She was in deep thought, trying to remember why the name Harlow was so familiar. It wasn't until she heard Donovan call him 'Brent', that she realized Harlow was Dr. Brent Harlow, who used to be the head geneticist for Lewis Dodgeson and BioSyn. Now she was really scared, hoping she wasn’t in store for what she was thinking right now.

    **********

Billy had seen the car in the driveway at the trailer and saw the two men. He was watching secretively from far away, when he saw one of them carry Chelsea out by the arm. The man was big, and although Billy was self confident, he didn’t think he could take that man out by himself. But, no one else was around that night. He was so scared for Chelsea, but continued to watch. He figured if he had gone to try and stop them, they would get him too, and no one would know what happened to them. So he continued to spy on the situation, and was planning on following them when they left. He got into his car and waited for the car to leave.

    ***************

At John Hammond’s daughter’s house the next day, his family was gathered around the big dining room table. Alan and Ellie felt out of place, being the only non family members there. A man dressed in a suit with a briefcase came walking in.

“First things first, my name is Dave Neilan, Mr. Hammond’s lawyer,”

Everyone smiled and nodded and some said Hello. Neilan then continued,

“I am very sorry about your loss, I really am. Mr. Hammond was a wonderful man, and he will be missed,"

Again, everyone nodded, but didn’t smile this time.

“Let’s get right to business shall we?”

Dave Neilan read people’s name and read off what Hammond had left for them. After a while and reading off everything he had left for his family, they got to the last people on his list.

“Lastly, To Dr. Alan Grant and his Wife, Dr. Ellie Grant, I am leaving you with my life work. You know how we made those dinosaurs on Isla Nublar, everyone does. We expected that to happen, and as a security precaution, we developed a special formula, that without it, you could not possibly create those dinosaurs. We came up with it, so I do not believe that even the top geneticists could create a way around it. And I, John Hammond am leaving you this formula. I am leaving you with the formula to keep it safe. I would have just destroyed it, but I couldn’t bring myself to do that. Please keep this safe, and do not let anybody get a hold of it. I know you understand the seriousness of this situation, you understand what those animals are and what they are capable of, and I know you will keep it safe. You are the only people who will,” Dave Neilan read.

Alan and Ellie just looked at each other. They couldn’t believe what they had just heard, and quite frankly, they were upset. They wanted nothing to do with John Hammond and his dinosaurs. The Grants wanted no part of this. Alan didn’t want to upset the family by protesting what he had left them, so he just sat there in silence. Ellie was about to say something, when grant held her am and gave her one of his looks that meant, be quiet for your own good. She was very outspoken and intelligent, and that’s what he loved about her, but sometimes it got her in trouble.

“And that is it. Everybody, have a wonderful day, and again, I’m very sorry about your loss,” Dave Neilan concluded.

Everyone began to talk quietly to themselves, and Dave Neilan packed up his briefcase and made for the door. Alan got up so he could talk to him

“Excuse me, Mr. Neilan,” Alan called after him politely.

Dave turned around and saw him approaching.

“Please, call me Dave,” he said in a friendly voice.

“Well, hi, Dave, I am Dr. Grant,” He said, extending his hand towards his. Dave took his hand and shook it.

“What can I do for you Dr. Grant?”

“About Mr. Hammond’s will, I hate to be rude, but what if I don’t want what he left me?”

“What do you mean?” he asked, confused.

“To be honest with you, I really want no part of John Hammond and what he created on those islands many years ago,” He said frankly. “If I don’t want this… formula… can I just give it to his family?”

“I’m sorry Dr. Grant, I can not let you do that,”

    “Why not?”

“It says that since John Hammond left you this, you have to take it, and you can do what you want with it, but you can not sell it or destroy it,”

“What are you talking about?” Alan asked, confused and quite upset.

“You see, Mr. Hammond was a very tricky man. He had a way of getting around things, and this is no exception. I don’t know how he did it, but he got legal authorization that makes you legally responsible for this formula he left you. So legally speaking, you are not allowed to destroy it or sell it,” He explained

Alan just looked at the man, and was extremely upset. He knew Hammond had all sorts of connections, so he did not doubt that he could do this either. He knew was stuck in a situation he did not want to be in, and he also knew there was nothing he could do about it. All he could think about was who was going to contact him first, and what they would do to try to get it.
