    JP: TALES of EVOLUTION
    Book I
    SPECIAL EDITION

    AUTHOR FOREWORD:
Jurassic Park: Tales of Evolution, was something I had in mind for quite some time. It all began in early fall of 2001…I had always been an avid reader of the “New Jedi Order” series which was apart of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. One of the things that caught my attention was the detail that dealt with the continuity of the overall saga. I thought it would be wonderful if there was something similar to this for the JP universe, however I knew that it would never happen, so I decided to begin my brainstorming for such a project.

It took me a while before I made sure that I really wanted to create something like this, because I was fully aware that if I did it would be something that took up the majority of my free time for months to come. So I tossed the idea around our Message Boards and greatly to my excitement people thought it was an excellent idea and nearly everyone was willing to contribute with the construction process that would build the foundation for such a wonderful series. I immediately signed on the best authors on the site and prepared to embark on a journey that would hopefully be as fun for the readers as it was for me, one of the writers.

The first step in creating this series was developing an overall title…I went through many different titles before I settled with JP: Tales of Evolution. Here are some of the possible titles I had in mind:

    *JP: Creation and Extinction
    *Evolution
    *Jurassic Tales
    *JP: Journeys

As you can see some of my original choices helped me develop the final product. With the help of Chavez and several other members on the site I narrowed things down and finally chose JP: Tales of Evolution as the full title of the series. Shortly after the title announcement I began polishing a storyline that I entitled “The Beginning” much like Mr. Lucas entitled “The Phantom Menace” throughout its creation. As the storyline developed, however, I noticed that one word really summed up the overall mood of the story and the direction I was taking it in and that was “Origin”. In no time everything was set in stone and I sat down to write “Origin”.

I must say that writing “Origin” was the finest experience I have had thus far because I really set out to write an informative story about how I thought JP began and throughout the course of my writing I constantly did research to find out if I was being accurate in my inference on the beginning of Hammond’s dream. It was also a great experience for me because I really got to write the sort of story I was comfortable with that included a solid plot with little action and a romantic overtone.

So here we are nearly six months after the first book in this series was released, viewing the Special Editions. I am honored that my series has had the success it has had and I am also honored by the number of people that ask me to be involved in any shape or form with this saga (although I may not show my gratitude in the exact fashion I should). I really hope to continue this saga with more stories and with your help and patience I will be able to do so. Once again, thank you for your support

    Book I: ORIGIN
    Prologue

Dark clouds swarmed high above and gently released cool drops of rain on the ground below. John Hammond was pacing nervously in front of a large window that looked out over a balcony. He was waiting for one of the most important phone calls he would ever receive. Noisily he clicked his cane as he walked, back and forth….back and forth.

Hammond was not the most patient man in the world and often times he showed it. Making irrational decisions in the heat of the moment, or loosing his cool when the situation called for keeping it, was a way of life for him. At this particular moment, there was not an exception.

His cane clicked in a soft rhythm as he continued to pace. The clicking echoed off the dark mahogany walls and seemed to match the tapping of the rain on the roof of his giant mansion.

The room was dark and sparsely lit, perhaps foreshadowing the dreadful events that would occur, because of this phone call, in the future. Suddenly a high-pitched ring interrupted all of that. Hammond leapt towards the phone and lifted it with lightning speed.

“This is Hammond…” he said in hast.

“Yes, Mr. Hammond? This is Mr. Rodriguez with the Costa Rican government. I just wanted to let you know that your bid was a success and that Isla Sorna will be your property as soon as you finish signing all of the contracts.”

“Great!” he nearly shouted “That’s just great, thank you sir!”

“No, thank you Mr. Hammond the Costa Rican government is proud to have your animal preserve as one of the countries home theme parks. We are sure it will be both beneficial to the preservation of whatever animals inhabit it and more importantly to the Costa Rican economy,” he added with a laugh.

Hammond laughed as well, “As I said before Mr. Rodriguez this is great and I look forward to meeting you in person, to finish signing those contracts,”

“So do I,” replied Mr. Rodriguez, “Good Day…”

With that the conversation ended and Hammond gently set down the phone and smiled. Ear shattering silence filled the room, however, there was a distant tapping. The rain was still falling gently on the roof and against the glass windows.

John Hammond walked over to his balcony and opened the large glass doors that led out onto it. Suddenly there was a flash of light, followed by a tremendous noise that rattled everything throughout Hammond’s mansion. It was soon followed by a large down pour of rain.

Hammond stepped out onto the balcony and looked over his garden down below. It was being flooded with water…normally Hammond would be very concerned; his garden was dear to him. However, at this moment he did not give it a second thought, his mind was focused on the following months and the amount of work it would take him for his dream to be accomplished.

Slowly he leaned back against the wall and smiled as an eerie shadow passed over his face. Soon he would be able to share his dream with the people of the world…. Unfortunately, he was unable to foresee the imminent failure and eventual tragedies of it.

[AC] When I sat down to write the prologue to this story I really wanted to get into a dark mood so I sat down and threw in “The Lost World: JP” DvD into my DvD player and watched the scene with Malcolm and Hammond at the beginning of the movie. I really wanted this opening prologue to be somewhat of a foreshadowing as to what was going to happen. However in this scene Hammond is at the top of the world and is fulfilling his dreams, so when you view TLW after reading this story I wanted you to feel somewhat of an irony occurring

    Chapter I: A Nightmare of a Dream
    [8 Months Later]

A dark Mercedes pulled up along the long runway. It was midday and the sun was high in the sky. Its rays of light bounced off the ground giving it a shimmering look. A tall man exited the driver’s side door and made his way to the right hand side rear, he casually opened the door and out stepped John Hammond. He was wearing light khaki pants and a short-sleeved island cotton shirt.

As he stepped out of the vehicle, he wiped his forearm across his forehead, feeling the warm drops of sweet as they beaded up along his face. He then looked up along the runway and placed a well-fashioned straw hat upon his head. In front of him was his twin-engine private jet. Today was his going to be his first visit to Isla Sorna since it had been completed.

Slowly he strode past his chauffer and stepped up onto the boarding ramp of the plane. His personal assistant Helena Robertson greeted him, she was tall and exotic. Her blonde hair was shoulder length and an outlandish teal top set off her steel blue eyes. Most of the men that worked for Hammond gawked at her every time she walked by. Hammond on the other hand found her a little to sultry and young for his taste, yet he recognized her stunning looks and had begun to try to persuade her into getting into the modeling business.

Right now though, those thoughts were the farthest from his mind. He was extremely excited about getting to see all of the parks security systems up and running along with the entire computer system as well.

“Good afternoon Mr. Hammond,” said Helena as he made his way up the ramp “Mr. Paterno is waiting for you.”

“Mr. Paterno?” Hammond questioned “I thought I was going to meet with him on Sorna. What is he doing on my jet?”

“Well, I am not entirely sure sir. He said it would be more convenient, time wise, to speak with you on the plane. Rather then waiting until you arrived on the island. I myself don’t see what the difference is but he was most insistent.”

“Oh,” sighed Hammond “Well, don’t get worked up about it, I was just curious as to why he was on my plane before I was,” he smiled “That’s all…its no problem though. Shall we?” he gestured for Helena to enter the jet.

John allowed Helena to lead him into the fuselage. Inside there was a combination of very modern stainless steel framework and abstract furniture. Hammond was proud of the decors that had been established in his jet and it always made him feel at home when he was aboard. Across the way was Ben Paterno, he sat at a bar stool sipping coffee.

“Ah, hello John! Sorry about the late notice,” he made an awkward hand gesture “I just thought it would be better to have a chat with you on our way to Sorna instead of waiting until you got there. I hope it isn’t a problem…”

“No, no of course not Ben,” Hammond replied “I look forward to our little updates and I don’t see what the problem would be for having it a few hours sooner then normal,” he waved his hand towards Ben’s drink “I would offer you something to drink but I see you’ve already gotten something.”

Paterno smiled, “Well that darling over there,” he was referring to Helena Robertson “was kind enough to offer me a drink. Which I couldn’t resist.”

“Yes, I am sure you couldn’t resist anything she offered,” joked Hammond. Ben laughed and Helena blushed as she turned around and made her way towards the stewardess corridors.

Ben waited until she was gone, “Your right John…but hey,” he smiled “that’s not what I am here to talk about. Why don’t we settle down and talk about the park?”

    “Alright lets do so.”
Hammond limped slightly as he made his way over to a chair that was positioned along the fuselage wall. Today he had not brought his cane because he felt he was in need of a work out. He had become a little over established to the cane aid. He sat down and offered Ben the seat next to him.

“The plane will be taking off soon,” he said “and I am sure you don’t want to be sitting on that stool when it does. It will send you flying my friend.”

    Both men laughed.

“Thanks,” he said as he sat down across from Hammond, coffee still in hand.

There was an odd moment of silence that was broken by the jet engines firing up. It was a short cough, followed by a sputter, then after a moment, the jet lurched a bit and was sent hurtling down the runway. Minutes later it was in the air soaring towards Isla Sorna.

Both men were silent until Hammond spoke, “So what exactly is it that you want to talk about?”

“Well, it is about the park,” he set his coffee cup down on a small circular table and crossed his arms “there isn’t enough room on the island to fit the DNA center, breeding grounds, hotel rooms, attractions, and the actual animals themselves.”

Hammond looked cross, eyes glaring “Why wasn’t I informed when I first purchased the park. After all, you were the one in charge with the setup. I expected you to work around such problems…”

“Now, now,” Ben said as he leaned back in his chair “who says I didn’t?”

John Hammond did not say a word, he just stared.

“You see, the reason we constructed the DNA center and breeding grounds first was exactly for this reason,” Hammond still sat silent “I planned to build the actual development portion of the park first. That way if there was a problem, everything would have been completed and all we would have to do was find another location for the park.”

    “How much?” questioned John sternly.

    “John…you seem...”

“God damn it Ben! I asked you a question! How much fucking money?”

Ben lurched forward in his seat; he had never heard Hammond speak that way before in all of his six years of working for him. He was startled to be honest, “Well actually I have found another island only a short distance away that might work. It’s being sold for $750 million and if we just use the materials we were going to originally use on Sorna and transfer them to this island it might only cost you a billion dollars.”

John Hammond seemed to relax, although it was a lot of money he liked the idea, “You think this could really work Mr. Paterno?” he said. Ben nodded his head “and what’s the name of the island?”

“Isla Nublar. It is actually larger then Sorna and will be much more presentable to the public. I think it will work fine. In fact I have already placed a bid on it,” he saw Hammond smile “I know I should have waited for your approval but it seemed like the best move at the time.”

Hammond was still grinning, “You’re one hell of a business man, Ben…one hell of a business man…”

Hours later the twin-engine jet soared across a clear blue sky and leveled its approach as it closed in on a beautiful jungle island. Dense forests covered every square inch. White clouds circled the highest regions of the island giving it an angelic feel. The jet dropped its altitude and cut back its engines as it began its arrival towards a landing strip located in the middle of the island.

[AC] This scene contains two things that we never got to see in the JP movies that I thought should have been included and that was a darker side to Hammond and I a financial consultant. I really enjoyed developing the character of Ben Paterno because he had the greedy side that we saw in Gennaro but also had a likeable feel that was reminiscent of Eddie Carr. I think that this scene helps show the readers that Hammond really spared no expense, like he states many times in JP.

However, I wanted to show that while he spared no expense often times he really didn’t want to spend that amount of money. I think this really shows when we see Hammond actually curse at Paterno…I was very concerned at how people would accept this change in character and I nearly removed it. In the end though I thought it was best to show this darker side to Hammond

There was a strong cross wind but the pilot was able to make a safe landing on the runway and taxied off towards a small building next to the radio control tower. Inside the jet, John Hammond and Ben Paterno were preparing to disembark. Helena Robertson lowered the landing ramp as soon as the plane came to a complete stop.

John Hammond was the first person out of the plane and as he made his way to the base of the ramp, he took in a deep breath “Beautiful weather Ben! This is paradise!” he said as he reached the bottom of the ramp. In front of him were two black jeeps awaiting him and his guest.

Along the side of the jeeps were the temporary logos for Hammond’s park, it was a picture of two Pteranodons flying over a jungle and the words JURASSIC PARK were written below. Hammond was not very fond of the logo and felt a more ferocious and recognizable dinosaur was needed on the front. In fact, it was one of the things he would address during the days meetings.

Hammond stepped inside the nearest Jeep and he was followed by Paterno. Helena went into the second Jeep along with one of the security guards and within minutes, both of the jeeps were on their way to the main compound.

As the jeeps, speed along a winding dirt road Hammond felt refreshed. The cool tropical breeze was tugging at his straw hat and he felt an awkward sensation of relief, he knew things were coming along nicely and within a year the park would be well underway.

Within fifteen minutes, they reached a compound. The compound was large and rectangular, however, it was not completed. Steel pillars were still in place on the outside, holding it secure. Along the front was a large sign, that said, “Welcome to Jurassic Park”.

As the jeeps came to a stop Hammond, hopped over his door and landed firmly on the cement surface that lined the outside of the building. He stood for a second taking in the entire scene, but was disrupted as Ben Paterno walked up beside him.

“It is looking good isn’t it?” he said.

“Yes, Ben I was just about to say that. However, this is bothering me already,” he pointed to the sign “Welcome to Jurassic Park…Hm, I don’t think that is going to be needed here anymore. Perhaps we can move it too Nublar when we purchase it.”

“Sure, that won’t be a problem,” Ben turned back and greeted Helena Robertson as she joined the two men. He smiled “Shall we?”

    “Certainly,” remarked Hammond.

The threesome walked gently up the steps that led into the building. As they passed through the entrance, a cool breeze greeted them. Inside the building stainless steel, walls raised endlessly along side a great spiraling staircase that led up onto the second story. The ground was cement and the whole building felt very modern.

People bustled busily back and forth across the way. Hammond felt great pride in knowing that this was his entire making. Suddenly someone approached him.

“Hello, Mr. Hammond mine name is Zack Brennan. I’m the administrator of this section of this facility,” he smiled showing perfectly straight teeth “Would you like me to show you around?”

“Ah yes…Mr. Brennan it’s a pleasure to meet you,” commented Hammond “I remember I hired you via phone just a few months ago. I hope you didn’t find all of those contracts too annoying, as you know this is a very tight lidded operation.”

“Oh, it wasn’t a problem Mr. Hammond and it is a pleasure to be working for you.”

“Great, now that we have the introductions finished can we start the tour?”

Zack Brennan laughed, “Of course sir, after all it is your park!” both men laughed, “Alright, lets begin…with the DNA center…”

Hours later John Hammond sat resting in his personal quarters that had been constructed for him at the facility. It was located on the second story of the building and had a great view over a small pond and garden. Across from him was Ben.
“I must say Mr. Paterno that tour was great, I’m impressed with the way you’ve conducted yourself here. Especially without my supervision.”

“Thank you John,” replied Ben “I am grateful for you praise but I really think we should discuss the second island option now.”

“Oh yes, of course. Well, you have showed that you are a responsible man so I will leave you in charge of that. I mean, I am all for it and I will probably just get in the way in such a matter.”

“Alright, but it may be an expensive.”

“Expense is not a problem Mr. Paterno, especially when you are making something like this. Everything needs to be perfect, that is why there will be no cap off price.”

Ben smiled “That’s great John. Well now that we have gotten that important, matter out of the way is there anything else that you want to discuss. I mean was there anything wrong with this island that really stood out today on the tour?”

Hammond shook his head “No, everything is proceeding as I had envisioned it. I’m confidant things will work out just fine.”

Outside the sky darkened as the men continued their conversation. It shifted from serious matters to small talk as the sun set into the ocean washing away the weary day.

[AC] As you can see this chapter makes many references at things to come in the JP series, which was one of the great things about writing this series. You really get to put things in that foreshadow events that will eventually occur and at times the reader wishes they could intervene. I also wanted to establish the fact that Isla Nublar was not always the first choice for the park that would actually have the tourists…

In fact, everything on Sorna at this point really reflects the way Nublar is viewed in the first Jurassic Park movie. Once again, this is a fit of foreshadowing that should be entertaining for the readers

    Chapter II: The Nightmare Begins
    [3 Months Later]

The page rustled as Hammond turned it. He was going over the last section of the contract for the third time. Carefully he skimmed over it and then picked up his pen from the table.

Hammond was sitting in a deep violet velvet chair that was positioned in the middle of an all white room. Pictures of Matadors filled the white walls and other Spanish ornaments were positioned throughout the room. John gripped his pen loosely and then after long thought made a few quick strokes on the paper.

He flipped the pages shut and then turned the pen lid until it was secured. He slid the papers across a small rectangular table towards Carlos Rodriguez. Carlos picked up the papers and flipped to the last page, the papers made a fluttering sound as they spun past.

“A very professional signature Mr. Hammond,” he grinned “barely legible.”

He laughed and then took out his own pen and signed under Hammond’s signature “Well, it’s official now. Isla Nublar is yours.”

“Thank you,” replied Hammond “I’ve been looking forward to this day for quite some time and I also look forward to completing my park, now that I have the two islands.”

Carlos Rodriguez smiled “Yes of course…forgive me for asking but what exactly are you building on these islands?” he asked.

“Well,” Hammond paused “as I have said before I have great interest in wild-life. In fact, I own a park in Kenya, however, this park is different. I like to think of it as a sort of, well um…wild life preserve.”

“I understand that,” comment Carlos “however, there has been heavy shipping to Nublar during the past week and the scale of everything is tremendous. It’s like your preparing to build a park for King Kong.”

Hammond laughed, “You’ll be surprised to know that you’re not far off on that hypothesis. In fact you are closer then you realize.”

    “Really?’

Hammond waved his hand “Sorry, I shouldn’t have said anything. In fact that is all I will tell you for now, I have said too much already,” he smiled “I’m just going to have to make you wait to find out what it is like everyone else.”

Both men laughed as Hammond got up from his seat and shook Mr. Rodriguez’s hand “It was a pleasure speaking with you again Mr. Hammond,” said Carlos.

“The same my friend and I have a feeling I will be seeing you all to soon.”

“Hasta Luego,” said Carlos as Hammond exited the room.

John Hammond left the room and turned down a narrow corridor. The walls were not well painted, in fact, the paint was peeling and the carpet was worn. Everything in the building was poorly furnished and it disgusted him. Hurriedly he walked, in two hours he had another meeting…this time with a man by the name of Thomas Gordon…

Thomas Gordon stood patiently looking out over a beautiful garden, just beyond that was horse stables. The sun was high and the weather was warm, he could see women practicing with the horses and off to the left, he saw matadors practicing in an arena. Everything was beautiful but it seemed as though these things belonged in Spain rather then Costa Rica.

Gordon was aware of a presence behind him. He turned casually and saw that it was Helena Robertson. She was dressed all in black. She wore a tight leather skirt that rode past her knees, underneath that was tall leather boots, and on her top section of her body, she wore a very revealing, low cut blouse.

“Good afternoon Helena, you look stunning today,” said Thomas. He was a tall man and very attractive to women. His dark hair was thrown back very lazily.

“Thank you,” she replied with a slight blush “Mr. Hammond will be here in an hour so you might want to take a seat and make your self comfortable.”

Thomas just stared at her, taking in her beauty “I have a better idea on how to make myself comfortable,” slowly he walked towards her.

“Um…Thomas I do not think that…” she could not finish her sentence, Gordon’s lips met hers and they both felt a rush of warmth throughout there bodies. She took her idol hands and moved them up along Gordon’s back towards his neck. Finally, there lips broke from one another’s and Thomas spoke again, “You know you want too…”

“Yes, but…” she seemed to ponder the possibilities for a moment “yes, your right. I want it,” she whispered in Gordon’s ear.

Suddenly she pulled back from Thomas Gordon and headed for the door, he felt rejected. However, he soon realized she was just going to lock the door. Helena locked the door and then turned back around. Slowly she walked back towards him and as she did so, she slid off her top.

Underneath she was wearing a black-laced bra. When she approached Gordon he wasted no time, he grabbed her and held her as his fingers worked on her strap. Eventually he undid the tie and her bra dropped to the ground. He stepped back slightly so that he could get a good view of her breasts. They were beautiful…perfect in size and her skin was smooth.

Slowly he pulled her down onto her knees and helped her undo his pants. Within seconds they were able to pull them off, he dropped to his knees as well and slid her leather skirt down to the ground as she tugged his shirt off. Gently he grabbed her and dragged her to the ground. There they lay, both naked except for Helena and her leather boots.

Thomas could not hold himself any longer; he slowly rubbed himself along her leg starting from the tip of her boot all the way up towards her inner thigh. Helena moaned with pleasure and rolled Thomas on his back. She then slid herself onto him and began to thrust her hips.

Gordon used his muscular hands to hold her steady as she continued to thrust herself on him. He could feel her leather boots rubbing along his legs as her movement became more intense. Now Thomas took charge, he flung forward throwing her onto the couch face up. He cautiously removed himself from her and spun her onto her back.

She needed no assistance, quickly she propped herself on her hands and knees as he moved forcefully from behind…

[AC] Alright…two very important scenes have just occurred. The first being the actually purchasing of Isla Nublar in which I make a joke about Malcolm’s statement in the first JP movie where he comments, “What do you got in there…King Kong?” I am sure that was obvious to you fans of the movies. I just thought it would be a funny reference for fans.

The second is the more grotti scene in which Thomas and Helena share a special experience with each other. Now this was a difficult scene to write because I wanted to imply that this couple had been “seeing” each other for a while, but had not really committed any sexual acts with each other. I think all of you were able to infer that from the scene. I tried at first to write this without out the actual descriptions, but it didn’t work as well as I would have liked so that’s why I elected to go with this particular version of the scene

Nearly an hour later Thomas and Helena were frantically dressing each other and cleaning up the mess they had made. Hammond would arrive anytime and they did not want to be caught. Helena had never removed her long leather boots throughout any of their climaxes, right now though she had them off as she slid on her skirt.

Gordon came up behind her and helped slide the zipper up as he kissed her neck “That was wonderful,” he said. She simply nodded as she bent down to slid her boots back on. She teased slightly as she rubbed her rear in Thomas’ sex. He felt himself becoming aroused once more.

Just at that moment there was a knock at the door, Thomas threw himself onto the couch and sat as though he had been waiting patiently as Helena finished lacing her shoes. She then trotted over to the door and opened it. John Hammond stood there smiling.

“Good Afternoon Helena, how are you?” commented Hammond; his eyes scanned the room behind her. He spotted Thomas “Ah…and Thomas good to see you!”

Thomas grinned and stood up “It’s good to see you too John. I just got here about ten minutes ago,” he looked towards Helena “and Miss Robertson was kind enough to provide me with all of the usual comforts”

Helena blushed and straightened her skirt “Well, I’ll be leaving now Mr. Hammond. I haven’t had lunch yet, so I am going to have a bite to eat.”

“Alright Miss Robertson. How are you Thomas, have you already eaten?”

“Yes sir, I had my lunch just before you arrived,” once again he looked at Helena who winked and exited the room.

“Oh, that’s great. So you don’t mind if we start the conversation right now?” asked Hammond.

Hammond sat down on the couch and Thomas Gordon sat opposite him in a leather chair. “So Mr. Gordon, I understand you have had quite a lot of work with animals. In fact you were recommended by some of the best preservations in the world.”

“Thank you and yes I have had a lot of work with creatures of all shapes and sizes,” replied Gordon “in fact I have been around animals all of my life. My father owned a preserve.”

“Oh yes…” Hammond sat a little straighter in his chair “Christopher Gordon was his name… correct?” Thomas nodded “Now, let me tell you why I asked you to meet me here. As you know, I am very into animal and wildlife preservation. I have that preserve in Kenya, have you ever seen it?”

“Yes, as a matter of fact I did and I was very impressed.”

“Thanks, now…I have begun work on a new park that will humble the one I have in Kenya and I would like you to maintain the animals for me.”

“Thomas’ eyes grew large “I’d love too Mr. Hammond. It would be a great experience for me to work with someone of your stature.”

Hammond chuckled “Well thank you, you’re flattering me.”

“It’s the truth Mr. Hammond,” replied Thomas earnestly.

“Yes, well…” Hammond blushed “anyway I would like you to come to visit the park in 3 weeks so that we can introduce you to some of your colleges and get you used to the working environment. In fact some of our first animals will be there at that time, that way you can see what sort of creatures-ah, I mean animals you will be working with.”

Thomas didn’t catch Hammonds small slip, he just nodded his head “That’d be great.”

Hammond jumped up from his seat “Great! That’s all I have too discuss with you now, but I am sure there will be more you will want to talk about later…So for the rest of the day you are my guest and are free to do whatever you please.”

    “Thank you Mr. Hammond.”

“How about you head on down stairs and go find Helena,” Hammond gestured towards the door “I’m sure you won’t mind having another meal. I will be down in a few moments to join you.”

“Sounds great Mr. Hammond. I will see you soon then,” with that Thomas turned and exited the room leaving Hammond to himself.

John turned back to face his balcony, it was a beautiful. The sun was high and he could tell it was also going to be a beautiful sunset that evening. Hammond turned back and walked briskly towards a phone that was positioned in the corner of the room. He picked it up and dialed a number.

After a few rings someone on the other side picked up “Yes?”

    “Hello, Ben?”

“Yes, who is this?” questioned Ben Paterno.

“It’s me…John,” remarked Hammond “I just wanted to call you and let you know that you can now add Thomas Gordon to your payroll.”

    “Oh so you got him?”

“Yes, and he is ecstatic to be working for us,” Hammond thought for a moment “Oh, and make sure the park is ready within the next three weeks because I invited Thomas to come by and have a look at it.”

“Alright, I will. Nice talking to you John, I will see you later.”

“Bye,” said Hammond as he gently set down the receiver. Silently he strode across the room towards the door. He opened it and paused just for a moment before closing it. His dream had begun…

    Chapter III: A Costly Mistake
    [3 Weeks Later]

The pounding surf was beautiful. Large waves crashed hard against the pier sending water leaping into the air and then gently falling back down like a spring shower. The weather was warm despite the fog that had built up around the island, however, as the day continue the skies would eventually open and the sun would shine through onto the dense jungles.

Thomas Gordon and John Hammond walked gracefully across the pier towards a jeep. They had just stepped off Hammond’s personal yacht. As they approached the jeep Hammond stopped and looked up towards the top of one of the cliffs, even though the clouds were thick he could see an aviary in the distance. He smiled.

“You see that?” asked Hammond, Gordon turned and looked in the direction Hammond was pointing and nodded “That’s our aviary here on Sorna where we breed some of the animals. Eventually they will be shipped to Nublar, where we have another aviary.”

“Really? That is quite large and from the looks of it, it seems as though that would be a rough journey to get up there. What sort of transportation do you use?”

“Actually, there is a river that runs all throughout this island,” he pointed towards a half-hidden valley “It goes right up through there and passes the base of aviary. We have a elevator system from there.”

“That’s brilliant,” said Thomas “what sort of animals do you have, that require such a large cage?”

“Well, we don’t have them yet but they are some of the largest creatures to ever fly over this great planet,” replied Hammond, almost in a riddle.

“Wow, that’s amazing. As soon as you have them positioned in there I would love to see them!”

“Oh you will,” came the response from Hammond.

The two men both stepped inside the jeep that greeted them. Thomas Gordon paid no notice to the logo that rested on the side of the vehicle. Within a minute, they were on the road heading towards the main compound.

Thomas enjoyed the trip there. The scenery was beautiful and he knew he was lucky to have been offered such a job. He was going to love waking up to the tropical weather ever morning. A short time later, they arrived at the compound and that is the first time Thomas realized what exactly this park was about.

There in front of him on the top of the building was a huge sign that said, “Welcome to Jurassic Park”. Finally, everything hit him, this was not and animal preserve at all…Quickly his mind raced over Hammond’s other profession. Hammond owned the company InGen that was part of the DNA and cloning business.

“Oh my God,” he turned to see Hammond smiling “You’ve cloned prehistoric animals.”

Hammond nodded “Very good, you catch on fast. Since you have already signed the secrecy contract, I will tell you what we have done. We have found a way to find preserved dinosaur DNA. It wasn’t completed but after many years of research we found a way to fill in the genetic code and artificially create these creatures.”

Thomas stood in awe. Never in his wildest dreams had he thought something like this could be done “When will I be able to see one of the animals?” he questioned.

“Oh quite soon, in fact that’s where we are heading right now to the hatching center where we have the first species that we have ever produced. So if you would like we could continue this conversation when we get there.”

Gordon wasted no time in his response “Sure thing!”

The two men walked up the steps towards the entrance of the compound and they could hear there feet clattering on the cement steps. After journeying down many hallways and through many rooms, they finally made there way into the hatching center.

A glass window looked into another room on the far wall. Thomas walked up close to the window and saw that two scientist were looking into a cage. The cage filled up the entire back wall of the room and inside it was a small creature about 2 feet in height and 6 feet in length. It stood, bobbing its head like a bird. Gordon did not divert his eyes from the creature at all.

    “What is it?” he questioned.

“Well, it is a Velociraptor,” answered Hammond “one of our main attractions, in fact. I think this will be one of the crowds favorite dinosaurs.”

Thomas thought for a moment and then his more professional business side took over in an instant “No, Hammond it is too small.”

“What?” Hammond looked at Thomas Gordon in surprise.

“It’s too small,” repeated Gordon “however, you said that you found portions of this animals true DNA code correct?”

    “Yes.”

“Well, couldn’t you alter it at all? I mean picture this,” he made a waving gesture with his hands “If you have mastered the technique of filling in the missing codes, why couldn’t you alter it to fit your needs a little more. You could change the coding of this,” once again, he waved his hands, but this time towards the creature “and other creatures. That way you could make them look more fearsome.”

Hammond stood for a moment “I suppose your right,” he grinned “I hadn’t thought of making these creatures look any meaner then they had always been. In fact I wanted this park to be as accurate as possible.”

“John, nobody knows what a real dinosaur looked like, except for you and your team. So if you change they way these creatures look nobody will no. They will accept it as truth!”

John Hammond looked curious “Well…it is a possibility, I mean we have the best scientists in the world working for us. We spared no expense. Perhaps I could get them attempt the mutation. I wouldn’t bet on it just yet though, but your opinion is noted. Thanks Tom.”

“No problem,” he smiled “Anything I can do too help.”

[AC] The main purpose of this section of the story is to try and clean up some obvious flaws that were present in the original JP movie. As we all know now, the Velociraptors in the JP movies are not accurate in size. So I attempted to answer this question by showing that originally the Velociraptors were accurate in size but were changed to make them more ferocious for profit purposes only. Up until this point Hammond was concerned about everything being accurate, however this begins his downfall right here with this decision

Hours later Hammond and Gordon sat lounging over a gourmet meal. They were discussing the security systems of the park.

“You know,” said Gordon “that with the sort of animals you are going to have here, the security system will have to be triple that of a normal theme park, right?”

“Oh yes. I am quite informed on all of these matters but yes, you are correct though. I have the best programmer in the world coming down to meet with us this Friday. His name is Denis Nedry. Have you ever heard of him?”

    “No I am sorry I haven’t.”

“Oh, well anyway, he is our man and he has given me some descriptions of the stuff he has planned for the park. I mean this is top of the line stuff. He believes he can create a program that could keep the park running for days without any human assistance.”

“That is impressive,” said Gordon “but what if there is some sort of power failure?”

“We have plenty of backup systems,” commented Hammond “in fact it is of little concern to me at the time. I doubt anything of that nature would happen…and if we did loose all power I am sure my men could keep everything under control for the time that it was out.”

Thomas nodded and grabbed something on his plate with his fork and shoved it into his mouth. After he finished chewing, he swallowed and spoke “Well, everything seems as though it is under control.”

“Yes it is,” Hammond, said as he shoved more food in his mouth “what did you think of that creature you saw today?”

“Well as I said earlier, if you could make it more menacing it would be perfect. I am, however, very impressed with the entire process that you have used to construct such a park. It must have taken a lot of time and patience.”

“Time? Yes…patience…well No.” Came Hammond’s response “I am one of the least patient men in the world. I am surprised I was able to keep my cool throughout the construction of the park.”

    Thomas laughed, “I’ve noticed that…”

Hammond gave him a quick glance but quickly smiled “and we are still working on that second island you know?”

“Really? What’s that island for anyway?”

“Well, it’s actually for the real park. This is the breeding ground where we breed and raise the animals. We then ship them out to Nublar where they are put on display for the public. It’s an outlandish operation to be honest.”

At that moment, Helena Robertson walked into the dining area, much to Thomas Gordon’s surprise. She sat down on the opposite side of the table, from the two men.

“Ah, hello Miss Robertson,” said Hammond “what can I do for you?”

“Well there is a phone call for you sir, from Mr. Paterno.”

“Oh I see, well I will get it in just a second,” said Hammond “Well, Tom it is late and I am sure you will want to see your corridors. I am finished here and after I take this call, I will be turning in for the evening. Why don’t I have Helena show you to your room though?”

Thomas turned toward Helena “That would be great.”

“Alright then I will see you tomorrow!” said John and with that, he left the room to speak on the phone.

That left Helena and Thomas all alone. She turned towards him seductively, “Shall we Mr. Gordon?” she said with a wink.

“Oh I think so, Miss Robertson,” he said as he stood up and stepped close to her “Perhaps you could comfort me in the same fashion you did a few weeks ago?”

“I don’t think that will be a problem,” she said as she grabbed his belt buckle, “let me show you to your room,” she then turned, still holding his buckle, and dragged him gently out of the room…

Chapter IV: Business Before Pleasure and Safety
    [4 Months Later]

The room was dark and cold, damp moist clung to the air and the stench of rotten flesh and blood was present. Scientist Richard Green huddled behind one of the many laboratory stations. Behind him, a huge cage was opened and traces of blood were smeared along the floor. On the other side of the room stood a menacing creature, which actually was genetically mutated by the scientists. It was a Velociraptor; this one however was six feet in height. It stood tall sniffing the air…

Green stayed still as he peered over one of the countertops, there was only one Raptor that could be seen but he knew that two had escaped. Suddenly the Raptor turned in his direction and Green dropped to the ground. He could hear the soft purring of the animal as it cautiously began to walk towards him, its middle claw tapped anxiously on the linoleum floor.

The Raptor cautiously bent down and sniffed the floor before it leapt high into the air and crashed down onto one of the tabletops. As it landed it sent materials flying to the ground, Green jumped back as he heard this. He knew he had to get out of the room. Slowly he placed his body face first onto the floor and began to crawl to the opposite side of the room towards the exit.

If he could get to the door, he would be able to escape the menacing creature that stalked him now. He continued to crawl and his heart beat thunderously against his damp shirt. Behind him, he could hear the snorting of the Raptor as it walked along the tables, searching for him.

Richard began to quicken his pace; he was only a few feet from the door now...This was the moment; he had to make his move. He leapt to his feet and reached for the doorknob. Behind him, he heard the animal leap to the ground and sprint in pursuit. Green grabbed the knob and swung the door towards him…he leapt through as the Raptor crashed into the swinging door.

Not wasting a second he jumped up and slammed the door shut behind him. He had escaped…Slowly he sank to the ground with his back to the door. Taking deep breaths, he wiped his hands across his face and through his hair.

At that moment, though he heard the strange hissing of the Velociraptor, except that it was not muffled at all through the door…it sound as though it was coming from right beside him…It took him a moment to register what was happening, he turned slowly to his left and saw, to his surprise, the second Raptor. Somehow, it had gotten out of the lab.

Before Green could move it leapt forward and attacked with its killing claw, he tried to roll over. In fact, he was successful in deflecting one of the blows but it left him in an awkward position. The Raptor took advantage of this and pushed harder sending Green completely onto his back and in the most expose position.

He tried one last time to shove the Raptor up off top of him, but with no success. Seconds later he felt an odd burning sensation as the Raptor ripped his chest and stomach open exposing all of his intestines. Green was horrified as he felt the animal begin to eat him. He tried to scream but it was muffled by the gurgling of blood…soon he was in convulsions as he spat up blood.

    Seconds later he was dead…

[AC] As you probably have noticed already, there wasn’t any action or suspense in this story until this final chapter. When writing this story I really wanted to follow the JP formula of waiting until nearly the end before presenting the audience with a tense action scene. Honestly, I could have wrote this entire story without an action scene…that’s how solid I think its plot is

John Hammond whistled cheerfully as he exited the dining area, after eating a very satisfying lunch. He was on his way to see Doctor Green. As Hammond walked along, he noticed that the building was still being furnished, men and women both worked diligently on miscellaneous things.

Hammond looked down at his watch and noticed that he was late for his meeting. He sighed and quickened his pace, he was sure nobody would truly care if he was a few minutes late but he always tried to make a good impression on his employees.

He rounded a corner that led down into the Lab hallways. Suddenly he was hit by a disgusting stench that nearly made him vomit. He stopped and looked down the hallway and in addition, to his horror he saw the corpse of Doctor Green on the floor, ripped open. Blood covered nearly every wall and traces of blood led on past the corpse and all the way down the rest of the hallway.

Cautiously Hammond approached the corpse and examined it. He could tell that it was attacked by one of the creatures that they had been working with earlier that day. At that moment, he noticed the door that was wide open on his left hand side. The door hinge was shattered and Hammond knew right off that something had burst through.

Slowly he peeked inside the room and saw the mess. Two more corpses were in the middle of the room…and in the back the large cage that the animals had been held in, was open, blood smeared all along the bars.

Hammond had to back out of the room as quickly as he could…. the stench was unbearable. Quickly he turned and trotted (it was awkward, remember he does have a bad limp) with his cane, back towards the main entrance of the building, that is where he found one of the guards.

“Sir! Sir!” he shouted, out of breath “There has been a terrible accident two animals have gotten loose and have already killed three men, I suggest we evacuate the building.”

The guard stared in horror past Hammond.

“Do you hear me damn it? I said there has been…” he couldn’t finish his sentence. The guard threw him to the ground and fired off three rounds towards the back of the humongous room.

Workers screamed in horror and dropped to the ground. Hammond meanwhile stared in disbelief as he saw what the guard was shooting at. A Velociraptor ran full speed in their direction and leapt as the guard unloaded his clip and shouted out to everyone in the building.

    “EVERYBODY OUT!” he shouted.

People wasted no time they practically tripped over themselves as they ran towards the exit screaming. Two more guards burst in through one of the many doors and began to fire at the creature. Hammond lay clinging to the floor in the middle of the chaos, finally the first security guard, who’s name was Jeremy, grabbed him and dragged him into the dining room.

They both hid behind a wall as Jeremy tried to reach one of the guards over his radio. There was only the broken crackling on the other end of the radio.

“Shit!” he shouted, as gunfire continued to erupt outside the wall behind them “Stay here Mr. Hammond, I’m going to help the other guys. How many animals did you say escaped?”

“Well, from the looks of it two, but there could be more,” cried Hammond; at that moment they heard a terrifying shriek as one of the guards fell to the floor. The Raptor tore at his stomach.

Jeremy nodded and ran around the corner to get involved with the fight. Hammond on the other hand stood and ran back towards the kitchen area trying to get as far away from the action as possible. He opened a door and ran through into the kitchen, he then closed the door as quickly as he could and then positioned himself caddy corner to it.

After a short time, the gunfire outside slowed and then came to a stop completed. Hammond still crouched in the corner afraid that not all was well. Seconds later he heard the terrifying hissing of a Raptor just outside the door. Hammond shook as sweat began to form on his brow. He was terrified.

The animal outside the door seemed to be sniffing the handle; its snorts were very loud and audible. Then there was a thud against the door, it was dull but Hammond could see the door handle and hinges nearly buckle under the pressure. It was followed by another thud, more powerful then the first…and then another. Finally, the fourth time the hinges imploded and the door burst open.

Hammond shouted and crawled back into the darkest corner he could find. There at the door stood a tall and deadly creature from prehistoric times. It stepped into the kitchen and lowered its head to the ground picking up Hammonds scent. Then it lifted its head and stared straight at Hammond, who was still crouching in a corner.

His breathing stopped, he knew he was spotted. Slowly the creature moved forward until it was a few feet from Hammond. It looked at him curiously and then hissed. Hammond shouted and reacted by hitting the creature across the head with his cane.

The cane snapped on impact and sent the Raptor hurtling to the floor. Hammond wasted no time he got up and ran past the sprawled out creature towards the door. John continued to run until he got out into the main entrance portion of the building. There three security guards lay on the ground battered. One was dead and the other two were severely injured. Hammond ran up and knelt beside Jeremy who was one of the injured.

“What happened?’ he whispered as he continued to tremble.

Jeremy could barely speak, his eyes were closed “It came from behind…”

Hammond nodded “Don’t worry I will go get help,” he grabbed Jeremy’s gun and tucked it into his waste band.

He then stood and headed for the exit of the building. Behind him, he heard the clattering of something hitting the linoleum. He spun round as quickly as he could and saw that the second Raptor was heading towards him. Hammond grabbed at the gun that was shoved into his waste band and tugged. It did not budge, in fact, it was stuck. Hammond tried to back peddle but soon fell to the floor.

As he slid to a stop on the ground he saw that the animal was sprinting at him, it leapt in the air and was about to attack when suddenly there was a tremendous explosion of a sound and the creature was sent flying backwards and to the ground.

Hammond looked back and saw Thomas Gordon lowering a rifle “Come on,” he shouted “I’m getting you out of here!”

“Wait,” Hammond said, “There’s another one in the kitchen!”

Gordon turned to three men that were standing behind him “You guys go check it out. I am going to get Mr. Hammond to safety.”

Hammond got up slowly, still trembling and followed Thomas outside of the building…

Later that evening Hammond sat with Thomas and Ben Paterno in his own corridors. They were drinking and talking about the day’s events.

“You know if it wasn’t for Mr. Gordon here,” Hammond said with a smile “I wouldn’t be here speaking with you two,” they all laughed but Hammond raised his hands “To be honest though…I nearly had a change of plans today. After what I experienced I almost decided to scratch this whole operation.
“But I knew that would be reacting irrationally. In a way this event was important to the eventually success of this park, it showed us what we need to improve. It is unfortunate however, that so many men had to die today before we recognized the situation and its problems.”

“That’s true John,” said Ben “However, I think you really need to sit down and think some of the security plans over, again. I will have that Nedry guy come back up here next week and we could have a thorough conversation about the security systems…”

“That’d be great, however, right now I am very tired…it has been a stressful day. So have you anything else to say before we end this conversation?” questioned John Hammond.

“Actually yes,” said Thomas Gordon, who had remained silent throughout the entire conversation.

    “Well?” Hammond pushed on.

“I just wanted to say that you are damn lucky, that you hired me Mr. Hammond...”

[AC] Now, only one person has said to me that this scene is very reminiscent of the kitchen scene in the first JP movie and I was shocked that more people didn’t say that too…I purposely had Hammond cowering in the kitchen at one point because once again I was going for the foreshadowing effect. In fact, that’s primarily what this story is about, foreshadowing. I really liked writing this action scene, because it was tense, it had deep foreshadowing, and we get to see Hammond in an action situation for the first time.

I made sure that his action was pretty clumsy because I don’t think anyone can honestly picture John Hammond saving the day in a tight situation. He does his best to ward of one attacker but in the end he has to be saved by Thomas, proving once again that for all of his actions he ends up having to be saved by someone else

    Epilogue
    [1 Week Later]

The sea was calm and the sun was high, giving the waters a golden look and feel. A huge cargo ship sailed gently along on its way to Isla Nublar. It had just left the busy pier of Isla Sorna where it was loaded with some of the most unusual cargo it had ever carried. Giant storage boxes held creatures of enormous proportions.

Within hours, this cargo ship would dock along the pier of Isla Nublar and unload its precious cargo. It would be the Origin of one of the greatest dreams ever known to man and would be the Origin of one of the greatest failures and tragedies, as well. Some would say the glow on the ships bow was a foreshadowing of future glory, whereas others would say it was a sign from the devil warning of imminent failure.

Nevertheless, the ship sailed forward into an uncertain future leaving a wake of possibilities behind…

[AC] All of the endings that I have in my stories are very dramatic and are very metaphoric. This particular one has to be one of my favorite endings though because I was able to add so many different meanings and foreshadowing to such a small scene. The whole experience of writing the first book in the JP:TE saga was very rewarding and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Being able to add something to the JP series though was the most rewarding of all

Well, I have had a wonderful time posting stories on this site and I really appreciate your interest in my work. This, however will be the last story that I will post…I hope you have enjoyed it (I know I have enjoyed writing it). All of your support really meant a lot to me and I can’t thank you all enough. So I guess I will just say goodbye instead and keep writing, Thanks…
