JPIV: Costa Rica - Sneak Peak - Part 1
    By Carnotaur3

    JURASSIC PARK IV
    COSTA RICA

A Novel by Carnotaur 3 and Spinoboy 11

    PROLOGUE

Isla Nublar, an island that is also know by many Costa Ricans to be “Cloud island”, is one of two islands to be infested by prehistoric creatures. But it was only 1999 that the Costa Rican government had bombed it to pieces. It was, indeed, a successful mission too. No dinosaur survived. The island seems to thriving again now, but not with the prehistoric creatures. The United States government was all for the bombing, scientists were bummed but not too sadden since another island remained.

With not enough money to spend to launch another bombing mission to Isla Sorna, the Costa Rican government simply had a fly-by everyday to make sure no one entered by boat or by plane. There have been many in the last few years to try to make it in. Not many were successful and none, except for two incidents back in 2001, hurt anybody.

Just when you think things couldn’t get worse, it turns out Costa Rican government lends a corporation called Biosyn a secret location in the jungle. The company payed them the money they need, told them to never come by again, and said “Have a nice day”.

Costa Rican government has never been good with their decisions. Money seems to be the only important factor for them. Now, it seems a revolt against cloning and anything cloned, is forming up in Costa Rica. This group coming from the US!

Only a year ago they jumped at the government for not destroying the second island. The government says they had no money at the time. Now it becomes clear that they do now. The group stands for another two months begging and revolting and raising cane, until finally, the government gives in. But it would cost a whole lot more this time around. More island, more money!

In the summer of 2002, the Costa Rican government sent out about 25 choppers with bombs galore to the island. In a matter of days, nothing was left but rotting wood.

2 days ago, rumors were being carried, by many Costa Rican villagers, about small, green, two-legged lizards running around the jungle. Some reports of large foot prints in the ground. Some as large as 5 feet. No one can understand what’s going on. There are some around that won’t say a word about, which becomes pretty strange to the people there. No one is suspected. There really isn’t much about the case at all. Many groups have searched the jungle but turned up nothing.

    CHAPTER 1: DISAPPEARANCE

Joseph Con stood at the front of a restaurant, waiting for his last name to be announced. It was hot and dry near the beech, and not much of a breeze ever poured in. With not a cloud in sight, Joseph knew that he would have to get his fan from his car.

Taking a stroll down the road, he unlocked his vehicle with a push of a button. He opened the door and grasped the fan out of bag in the back seat. A little electric fan it was, and he needed it more than anything.

“Con party of two… Con party of two…” the bull horn proclaimed as he was just about to walk back to the front.

“Thank goodness they hired some Americans this time.” He muttered as he paced to the hostess.

From far up the road a bluish, old, rugged van drove very slowly down the road and into one of the parking spots. It was who Joseph was waiting for. Someone to talk to. And this seemed very important at the time.

The man, in a straw hat, got out of his van and paced to the restaurant. He was holding up his hand above his eyes. He walked passed the hostess podium as a Mexican song started to play. Sitting down in his chair looking straight at Joseph, he asked with curiosity, “Who’s paying?”

“Ha, very funny,” Joseph muttered to him.

The hostess, a beautiful young lady, came up to both of the men. “What will it be to drink, boys?”

    “Coke!” the man exclaimed.

    “And you, sir?”

    “Same,” Joseph said.

“Alright, I’ll be back with your drinks.”

She left not even a bit in a hurry. Joseph leaned forward on the table, raised his eyebrow, and opened his mouth to speak.

“First off, I’d like to know who you are. Second, I’d like to know why you want me.”

“ I’m Detective Drinnan, and I come to ask for your help in a disappearance. It took place about a month ago. Ronald Lopez.” The detective gave him a picture of Lopez.

Drinnan has been a detective for years now. He’s way ahead of his own work ethic. It’s very easy for this guy to solve a case. But this one stumped him. He had been up to the old jeep trail where he had heard the guy was dropped off. There were footprints but there was no sign of a struggle. The prints looked as if he had run off. Drinnan was about to wonder if this guy was going to tell the truth.

Joseph studied it for the longest time, then, placed it back down on the table.

“Never seen him before.” Jospeh said in a calm manner.

“Are you sure? He was reported a month ago to be going on a bus up the old jeep trail. He was with your Safari group that you took up there.”

“Am I supposed to remember faces every time I do it?”

“You sure as hell should!” Detective Drinnan exclaimed.

“Look, all the Mexicans around here look the same. Alright.”

The detective calmed down. Then, he turned to him again.

“What was the safari group going for?” The detective asked with curiosity.

“Something about some animals out in the hidden parts of the jungle. Not much for me to get out of them. They wanted everything hush, hush, for the most part.” Joseph sat his hat down on the table and blew the fan in his face.

“Look, if there is anything that happened up there, I’d like to know.”

“All I know was that Lopez said he wanted to go out on his own, and he left. I tried to stop him, honestly. But he was gone.” Joseph saw the drinks coming.

“Now that I appreciate. That means a whole lot.”

After this, Detective Drinnan pulled up from his seat and was walking to the door when Joseph ask, “Are you not going to stay and drink with me?”

“I can’t waste my time at this moment. But thank you.”

And in an instant, the detective was gone. Joseph sat his coke down on the table. “Check please,” he said as he cut off his electric fan.
