    Slayer - 5x12 - Escape
    By Ben

    CHARGER CITY WOODS-NIGHT

BEN cautiously crept through the woods with a STAKE in one hand and a TORCH in the other. A SWORD hung around his waist. He found the smoking wreckage of RICK and SAM’S chopper, which they were using to transfer DAC to a hidden cell.

    Ben: Holy christ.

He walked around the wreckage, when he suddenly spotted the logo of The Elite-a black X with a sword through the middle. Moreover, he saw that something had happened inside; blood was smeared over the floor, though he couldn’t tell what from, because whoever the blood had come from wasn’t there anymore. In fact, as he looked inside, no bodies were to be seen anywhere. He clambered in unsteadily and looked around. He searched the cockpit and cupboards, but there were no bodies. In fact, the blood was the only trace of anyone having been on board the chopper at all.

Ben: Nothing. Weird. Oh well, did anything not burn?

He searched the supply cupboards and found some medical equipment. Searching the cockpit, he saw the radio destroyed, and then noticed something on the ground.

    Ben: What the…

It was a sliver of rubber from a man’s shoe. It looked as though it had been accidentally torn off, somehow.

    Ben: Weird.

BEN walked away, shaking his head.

    Not far off…

Voice: Ow! Damn it! Stupid mosquitoes! If my hands weren’t tied I’d hit you, you little bastard!

A dark shape wriggled around on the ground in pain. Slowly, the figure ran the ropes binding his hands against a blood-smeared knife on the ground. The ropes eventually got frayed and broke. The person used the knife to cut the ankle bonds, and then patched up a wound in his leg.

Dac: Man, that smarts! What the bloody hell did I ever do to him, aside from try to knock him out?

A Zoom in of Charger City at night. “SLAYER” appears in red text. Scenes of BEN, RIVER and PARA all armed with stakes, facing down some vampires.

BEN dives through a window and pulls out a crossbow with a flaming arrow on the end. He releases the trigger and hits a VAMPIRE which explodes into dust. [Starring Ben] BEN and RIVER fight back-to-back against hordes of vampires.

BRAD is thrown forward by an explosion.

PARA throws a blue glowing orb at a DEMON. She dances with BEN at a NIGHTCLUB. PARA and DAC face each other down. [Para girl] PARA glares in rage at BEN.

SHANE and MARTY begin to whisper a chant.

RIVER walks into his high school, greeted by SHANE and MARTY. RIVER punches DAC in the face, knocking him backwards. [Jedi A. Malcolm] VAMPIRES surround RIVER, he spins around with a sword, decapitating them all as they turn to dust.

RIVER dives at some UberVamps in rage.

TARA looks through her books of spells. TARA kisses MANDY on the lips. [JP3 Girl] TARA’S body splits in too DARK MAGIC and LIGHT MAGIC. Tara fires an electric blue beam at a DEMON.

    BOB KLINE laughs uncontrollably.

RICK spars in a ring with BEN. RICK pulls his crossbow out and fires. RICK and DAC whip out some SWORDS, glaring at each other. [Rick Arnold] Rick embraces SAMANTHA.

RYAN is held at gunpoint. RYAN spars with BEN. [And Dark Hunter as Ryan] RYAN’S hands glow and they produce lightning. RYAN throws a DEMON onto a pike.

BEN and RIVER walk the streets of CHARGER CITY with their BLACK coats flapping in the wind as if they were capes.

    CHARGER CITY-MORNING

RIVER walked down the pathway with JOEY and MARTY.

    Guest Starring Mandee as Mandy

River: So which Bond movie was it last night?

    Aragorn as Shane
    JPJunkee as Marty
    PunkNerd as Joey Russo

Marty: A View to a Kill. Pretty weird, but cool anyway.

    Labyrinth as Falcon

    Joey: Good chicks?

    Dac as General Dac Armstrong

Shane: Hell yes! Well, mostly. Anyway, how was patrolling?

    Dino_Dude as Eddie

River: Some freaky demon, took a few sword hacks without any pain.

    Bob as Bob Kline

    Marty: What happened?

    The Host

Joey: He eventually took off its head. Gave a good fight, though.

And Pierce Bronson as Devin Summers

River: I have to get a newspaper, can we go via the newsstand?

Shane: I would if I knew where we were going.

Marty: What? Shane, I was following you.

    Shane: I was following Joey.

Joey: Uh…I thought we were going to the store and get some food.

River: You do that, I’m gonna get the newspaper. Meet you guys back at my place

Shane: I’ll come with you, I want to get a magazine.

Marty: I’ll go home and get the tape of Bond.

River: OK, my place in half an hour.

    Joey: Sure.

RIVER and SHANE walked away. MARTY turned and jogged back to his house. JOEY stood silent for a moment.

Joey: Why do I always feel isolated from the others?

He shook his head and walked over to the store. RIVER and SHANE continued to the newspaper stand nearby. EDDIE, a guy who had graduated high school with them, chewed a piece of gum behind the desk and read a sports magazine. He looked up as the other two approached.

Eddie: Hey, guys. What’ll it be?

    River: Today’s newspaper, please, Eddie.

Shane: And an Inside Sport magazine, man.

Eddie: Newspaper…you wouldn’t want that magazine for the girls, would you, Shane?

    SHANE went red.

Shane: No, no, of course not!

Eddie: Uh huh, sure. Here, River.

River: Thanks. You shouldn’t look at that, Shane.

RIVER and EDDIE laughed. SHANE looked angry.

    Shane: Just hand it over.

    Eddie: OK, there.

EDDIE gave SHANE the magazine and took the money.

River: We gotta run. See you, Eddie.

    Eddie: Catch you later, guys.

RIVER and SHANE walked back to RIVER’S house.

    Eddie: Heh, horny little idiot.

    RIVER’S HOUSE

Devin: Did you get the paper?

    River: Right here.

RIVER hands DEVIN the paper. MARTY walks in with a video tape in his hand.

    Marty: Here’s the tape.

River: Cool. Dad, we’re just gonna watch a movie.

Devin: OK, but you have to get your study things together later.

    River: Sure.

RIVER and his friends exit the kitchen into the living room, and put the tape into the VCR and start watching.

River: This better be good. I don’t think I’ve seen this one.

Half an hour later the doorbell rang. DEVIN walked out and opened it. The boys heard a hushed conversation, but couldn’t distinguish the words. DEVIN walked back in after he closed the door.

    River: Who was it?

Devin: Friend of mine. Wanted to borrow the paper.

    Outside…

Ben: He better not tell anyone it was me.

    COMMERCIAL
It’s big, it’s bad, and it brings a lot of death. Swords, axes, bows, spears, pikes, wizardry and horses. Helm’s Deep killed many men, elves and Uruk-Hai. But that’s nothing, compared to, say, the Pelennor Fields. The trilogy draws to a conclusion in an anti-climatic brawl above the Cracks of Doom themselves, the siege of Isengard, many battles a lot worse than Helm’s Deep, and the Return of the King at last.
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Coming soon

    LATER THAT DAY…

BEN walked back towards the woods, carrying a newspaper and lots of food.

Ben: That took longer than I thought. The sun’s setting. Damn it…

    He dropped the newspaper.

Ben: I knew I should have put that in the bag.

Eventually, he got back to his little hideout, juggling his supplies. He set them down on the grass and read the headline on the newspaper.

Ben: “Prisoner escaped from military prison”? The Elite? Huh, a top security prisoner. That’s weird, Rick never usually lets something happen like that…

He trailed off, remembering the helicopter crash.

    Ben: Oh, my god…

    He quickly scanned the article.

Ben: Lost signal from a helicopter, presumed crashed? General Rick Arnold and Major Sam Roberts? Oh my god!

At that moment he heard a rustling in the shelter.

    Ben: What…

Quickly, he sneaked towards the entrance. Inside, he saw a dark shape rummaging through a small pack containing medical equipment. The figure was clearly human.

    Ben: Hey!

The figure’s head snapped up. BEN lunged in and grabbed him by the front of his shirt.

Ben: What the hell do you think you’re doing?!

Figure: I need some bandages for my leg. The blood clotted but it might get scratched off.

    Ben: What?

BEN looked at the figure’s leg. A clotted wound was in the leg, poorly wrapped by some ripped cloth.

    Ben: Who are you?

Figure: I’m not so sure I should tell you. You might kill me if I do.

    Ben: Huh?

BEN shone a torch onto the figure’s face. Underneath a black eye and some dried blood on the face, BEN recognised him.

    Ben: You!

BEN tossed him to the ground in rage and picked up an AXE.

    Figure: No, wait, please!

    Ben: Why should I?

Figure: Because I can help you!

    BEN laughed.

Ben: Help me? Dac, not so long ago you tried to kill my friends and me!

Dac: I can explain it. Jester, Rick and Sam didn’t listen to me. As a Slayer you could be vulnerable by killing me. You have an axe, I’m wounded. The least you can do is hear me out.

    BEN hesitated.

Ben: I don’t see the need to explain. You just about went insane and turned on us, your friends. You allied with my latest archenemy, raised an army of super demons to kill us all, tried to destroy us and express your hate…

    Dac: I was a mind-controlled front.

    Ben: What?

Dac: You’re aware that Bob is against you, correct? Well, he was against you since I turned back up to get you all, at least. He knows magic and he used a mind control spell to use me as a pawn. The attack on him at Christmas was fake, just to try to pass him off as innocent in front of you, and when you attacked at the warehouse, you knocked me out of his control when you knocked me out. He put me back in, but when I was arrested he cut off the control, because he knew he couldn’t use me anymore.

BEN stood silent for a little while, then nodded.

    Ben: That fits. Go on.

Dac: You saw the chopper wreckage?

Ben: Yes. It was you, wasn’t it? The escaped prisoner from The Elite the newspaper reported?

    Dac: Eh? The newspaper?

    BEN hands DAC the newspaper.

    Ben: See?

Dac: Yeah. They think it’s me that did it. It wasn’t.

Ben: Slow down, you’re losing me.

Dac: I was being transferred to a cell not far from here, abandoned. Rick and Sam were shuttling me over, but when they loaded me onto the ‘copter I saw someone else get on and hide themselves. When we were over the woods, Sam spoke to me. I tried to warn her but they didn’t listen. Then he got them, and made them think I did it all.

    Ben: Who did?

Dac: The Host. He morphed into me to knock them out, then radioed the HQ. He morphed into Rick and said something about me being loose, so now The Elite will be after me. Bob was there, too; The Host has given him a morphing ability, like he did me a while back.

    Ben: Bob and The Host?

Dac: Yep. I tried to get them, but I was still tied. Bob stabbed me in the leg and The Host dropped me out of the side. They think I died from the fall, but I dropped into the river and climbed out, somehow. I found the knife cut my bonds, and was out cold for the day. When I came to I found this place and was looking for a bandage when you turned up.

Ben: So, on the floor of the chopper…that was your blood?

Dac: I guess so. I mean, I didn’t exactly hang around to see what happened afterwards but I doubt Bob and The Host came to blows. Besides, I think the only weapon they had was the knife and they dropped it out with me by accident.

Ben: And the rubber from the shoe?

    Dac: Eh?

Ben: I found it in the cockpit.

Dac: That I can’t explain. I was never in the cockpit. I guess it might have been Rick’s, but Bob has him and Sam now.

Ben: Oh, great! This is just perfect! I lose an old friend for some reason and now he’s kidnapped two others and holding them as hostages!

Dac: But maybe not for long.

BEN stopped and looked at DAC.

Ben: What do you mean by that?

Dac: I can help you. Believe me, I want nothing more than Bob and The Host down. And I know how to do it.

    BEN looked intrigued.

    Ben: Go on…

Dac: It may not be easy, but I know how to do it. All I ask is two things.

    Ben: Yes?

Dac: One, I want to be trusted. I’m sorry about all I did under Bob’s control, and I want to make it up to everyone, you, Rick, Para, River…all of you. But I can’t without any trust.

    Ben: And the second condition?

Dac: A hiding-place. Bob and The Host think I’m dead, but The Elite doesn’t. Everyone stationed in a 100-mile radius of Charger City will be looking everywhere for me. I will need to hide.

    BEN ponders the offer.

Ben: Hmmm…it is a hard choice, Dac, because I still get apprehensive at your face. I’m not sure about trust, but hiding…that we can do.

    Dac: Thank you.

DAC holds out his hand. BEN looks at it, then hesitantly takes it.

Ben: We are friends and allies once more.

    Dac: Yes.

    RIVER’S HOUSE-MORNING

The doorbell rang. DEVIN groaned as he lay on the couch, sprawled out.

    Devin: Man, what the hell?

    He sat up, stretching.

    Devin: River, get the door.

RIVER walked down the stairs, looking sleepy and grumpy. He opened the door and suddenly jerked awake when he saw who it was. The next moment, he punched the visitor in the face and knocked him out, and dragged him inside, leaving the door open.

    Devin: What the hell…

    River: Don’t ask.

RIVER dragged the person into the dining room, put him in a chair and tied him up.

Devin: River, who the hell is this guy?

RIVER began to answer when they heard someone clear their throat in the doorway.

Ben: May I ask why you knocked him out?

River: Ben! Look at him, it’s Dac, for god’s sake! He tried to kill us all!

Ben: Oh, of course, you didn’t hear the truth because you weren’t there.

    River: What?

Ben: I found him last night. He explained everything and it fits with all that’s happened so far. Bob against us…The Host…and more recent events, like the helicopter crash.

River: You’ve lost me. Start over.

    Later…

Ben: And he’s promised us that he’ll help us take down Bob and The Host, provided we can protect him and trust him. Hitting him isn’t a great way to start.

River: Well I didn’t exactly know all this.

At that moment, DAC started to come to.

Dac: Ow…did anyone get the number on that truck?

    RIVER grinned.

    Ben: Wake up, Dac.

Dac: Eh? What’s with my hands?

He looked down and saw his hands bound.

Dac: Oh, god damn it, not again!

Ben: Dac! Come in, god damn it!

DAC looked up and saw all three of the Summers’s.

Dac: This is gonna be bad, isn’t it.

Ben: No, unless you make it. I thought River would have enough sense not to hurt you before you explained all you told me last night but I misjudged him. He conked you on the head.

Dac: Man, does he do weights? Because my head is still throbbing. How long was I out for.

River: Shut up, now, OK, I want an explanation to clarify what Ben said.

    Dac: Er, sure.

    Later, again…

Dac: And that’s how it happened.

River: Well, it fits with Ben’s, so I guess you’re clean. OK, but I’ll go with you into hiding to keep an eye on you. A few of my friends might come as well.

Dac: I’d like nothing better. Thank you.

Ben: Take your three pals and Michelle, they would be your best bet. But call the rest of our gangs. I think they should all know, so they won’t kill him if they visit. Tara, Ryan, Mr. Hunt, Mandy.

    River: What about Para?

BEN swings his head around angrily.

    Ben: What ABOUT Para?!

River: Shouldn’t she know, at least?

Ben: If she’s coming, I’m leaving. See you River. Bye, Dad. Dac, don’t get into anything.

    Dac: Er, right.

BEN stormed out. DAC looked bewildered.

Dac: What’s wrong with him? I thought he and Para were…

River: Broken up over something. They never told me what.

Dac: OK. I take it that now that he’s gone Para is coming?

River: I guess so. I’ll call them. Here…

    RIVER cut DAC’S bonds.

    Dac: Oh, thanks.

    River: Here.

RIVER hands DAC a cordless phone.

River: I’ll use my cell phone. You call these numbers and tell them to be here in half an hour. You’re calling Tara, Shane and Ryan.

    Dac: OK.

    Forty five minutes later…

    SHANE walks in, looking hassled.

River: Finally! You’re late, where have you been?

Shane: You woke me up! Or whoever called woke me up.

River: It wasn’t me but he was on my orders.

Tara: What? River, why the hell did you call this meeting?

River: Because of a new issue. We have a lead on Bob and The Host, and now we have someone who claims he can help us take them both down.

    Mandy: What? Who?

River: OK, you may not trust him at first, but you’ll need to. Michelle, Marty, Joey, Shane, you and I are going to hiding with him. He needs protection because he’s being tracked right now.

Marty: Kind of short notice, River.

River: You think that’s a problem? I knocked him out when he came and got a bad reprimand.

Para: So I take it we’ve met him before.

River: Most of us. Particularly you, Para.

    Para: What?

Ryan: River, cut the riddles and bring him out. Now.

River: OK, but no one attempt to kill him when he comes. Dad, bring him out!

DEVIN was making some toast when RIVER yelled out. DEVIN turned and unlocked the door.

    Devin: You’re on.

DAC walked in. Everyone jumped three feet into the air in amazement and fell down, gaping. PARA recovered and then dived at him. RIVER caught her and held her back. She gave a yell of rage.

Para: Dac, you bastard! What the hell are you doing here?! I’m gonna kill you, you rat! You’re gonna…

    River: Para, shut up!

PARA fell silent, her face seething in red-hot rage. TARA stood up.

Tara: Dac, you have some serious explaining to…oh my god, what happened to your leg and your eye?

Dac: That’s a long story, but I don’t think I can start it unless Para agrees to hear me out.

Everyone looked at her. She slumped in defeat and sat back down.

Para: OK, fine. Get on with it.

    Later, yet again…

Dac: So River called you all here to tell you.

    PARA looked stricken.

    Para: Rick and Sam are…

Dac: I’m not sure. They were alive when I had to drop out. I’m pretty sure they’re alive, as hostages.

Tara: That explains that scar on your leg, but what the hell’s with your eye? How can you get a black eye by falling out of a helicopter into a river?

Dac: Actually, I think that was from Sam.

    Tara: Ah.

River: Well, Dac, now where are we supposed to hide you?

    Dac: I…don’t know.

River: Well, we’ll work something out.

Tara: I have to run, it’s my shift on the Magic Box soon. Coming, Mandy?

    Mandy: Ready when you are.

Tara: Good to have you back, Dac. I knew something wasn’t right.

    Dac: Thanks.

TARA and MANDY left. RYAN walked out and got into his car without saying a word.

Shane: I’m gonna have to get some things if I’m going into hiding.

Marty and Joey at the same time: Me too.

River: I better get onto Michelle and tell her.

Mr. Hunt: I’ll join you, and then I’ll go home.

    River: Para?

Para: Mind if I get a drink or something first?

River: OK, go ahead. Dac, don’t leave the house.

Dac: Got it. See you, everyone.

RIVER, SHANE, MARTY, JOEY and MR HUNT walked out. PARA remained on the couch. DAC turned to walk into the kitchen.

    Para: Dac, wait.

    DAC stopped and turned.

    Dac: Yes?

    Para: I’m…sorry. I didn’t know…

Dac: That’s OK. You had every reason, because I was controlled and ordered to kill you. I’ll forgive you if you forgive me.

In answer, she got up and embraced him.

Para: A while ago, I told you that you were like the brother I never had. Now that you’re normal again, it stands.

Dac: Thanks. That means a lot to me.

    PARA stood back.

Para: Well, I have to run. Bye.

    Dac: Bye.

    DARK ALLEY

    BEN stands, looking bewildered.

A FLASH of LIGHT emerges and The OTHER BEN flies through the PORTAL, bearing flesh wounds and carrying THE SLAYER SCYTHE.

The Non-Scythe carrying BEN looks confused – but disappears with a purple vapor.

THE REAL BEN was back…with a fancy new weapon…and stories to tell.

BEN walked out of the ALLEY.
