    GENESIS The Elevator Ride
    By AlanGrant5

    GENESIS – Jurassic Park ///

    Complete Version – January 17, 2002

    ***The Elevator Ride***

The creature entered the light, revealing dark green scales overlapped with a coat of mahogany. It stood eight feet above them, looking down at them with great delight. Indeed the crocodilian features were there, with eyes so eerie, that alone made them tremble. The lizard looked very thin, and malnutritioned, due to the fact that all it ate for the past year was fish.

Without hesitation, the group ran for the room, but the creature, with incredible speed, blocked their path with its frail looking leg. They quickly changed their route and headed up the catwalk, causing it to creak with each rapid step that they took. Standing only twelve feet off the ground, the bridge was in biting height for the creatures ease. The three of them, ran around the catwalk, with the lizards head bumping into the bridge as they ran. The bridge began to shake violently, but they ignored it, more worried about their lives than the bridge they walked on. Alan looked at a stair case that lead to the room and increased his speed, until their escape route was cut short, when the sucho’s foot crushed the stair case, causing the group to come to a halt.

Alan and the others started to run back the other way, but the beast grabbed ahold of the other end of the bridge and began to pull downwards, causing the group to slide down barely inches from the needle like teeth that were in its jaw. They all grabbed onto the railing, pulling themselves away from the chomping teeth below. The creature had turned the bridge into a slide, and was trying to get the meal it had been waiting for. As Rick held on, he looked back and noticed the cables, holding the bridge were about to untie. Rick looked back at the two, “HANG ON!”. And seconds later the bridge fell, landing on top of the creatures head.

With no time to waste, despite the injuries they might have obtained, the group rose to their feet and ran for the room, with the sucho struggling to get up. Just as they were about to get into the elevator, the doors slid open and Laura Hughes stood unaware of the danger that was invading the premises.

    “What? What’s happening?” she asked.

“GET BACK INSIDE!” Grant yelled, while the rest of them entered the elevator. Alan pressed the up button repeatedly, but the doors wouldn’t shut.

“What’s going on?” Laura asked naively. But then her answer was heard... a loud ear shattering roar coming from a beast charging the elevator. Her eyes widened with fear. The doors shut just in time and the elevator rose, slowly.

“What in God’s name was that?” Laura asked with her hand over her heart, as if she had just received a heart attack.

“I think it was a sucho...” Alan’s answer was cut short, when a slight but violent tug, was felt, jolting the elevator. They all jumped, with the light in the elevator short circuiting.

    “What the hell?” Scott muttered.

Then with a sharp pull, the elevator was dragged downwards... the sucho had gotten ahold of the elevator cables. The sucho pulled it out and tossed it to the ground. Everyone in the elevator rolled around as if they were in a giant drying machine. With the push of the snout, the creature rolled the elevator downhill and into a stream. Everyone in the elevator screamed with pain as they landed on top of each other.

With a roar, the sucho smashed its foot into one side of the elevator, pushing it into the sharp rocks that lay beneath the stream. Soon enough, water began to rush in, making the situation much, much worse. They were all being drowned, the deeper the sucho pushed them into the stream.

Suddenly, there was a release of pressure as the lizard removed its foot. But when they thought it was over, the snout of the creature came crashing through the elevator roof, barely nipping the tip of their skulls. Laura screamed loudly, almost as loud as the creature they were being attacked by. Rick was being pushed underneath the water by Laura’s leg, and the group became tangled up with each other. Scott became a bit girlish himself, as he screamed for his life, in part because he hated to be trapped in confined places and also due to the fact that he was being kicked where the sun don’t shine, by who knows who.

A sharp indentation of a rock pierced Rick’s arm open, causing the water to turn red, as the blood polluted the water they were almost drowning in. But soon enough, there was a quick change in events, as the snout disappeared and a loud explosion was heard. Then out of the blue, a hand reached in from the roof, pulling Laura out first. Soon after the rest of them were rescued and as they exited the doomed elevator, they saw the sucho devoured in flames, with two men extinguishing the fire, as if they had burnt the turkey for Thanksgiving dinner.

Several men rushed to their aid, throwing a blanket over Laura as she shivered both due to the coolness and to fear. They began to bandage Rick’s arm, which was surprisingly not as banged up as he thought it had been. As for Scott and Alan, they were okay, with the exception of some small cuts and a few bruises that probably wouldn’t heal any time soon.

“You okay sir?” a man asked throwing the bandage aside.

“I’m fine,” Rick muttered. “Are there any survivors up there?”

“We had a few air lifted... but I’d say more than six people are sure gonners,” the man replied.

    “Shit,” Rick replied.

“We have another problem though sir... we had sent a team to Nublar to check things out and...”

    “And, what?”

“And we’ve tried to contact them, but no one has responded... we think something might have happened to them,” the man said lowering his head with shame.

“Jesus Christ... how many were sent?”

“Ten... it was Rampart’s team sir.”

Rick stared at the ground in silence. “Get another team ready... we’re going to Nublar,” Rick said rising from the ground. The entire area smelled of burnt flesh, which didn’t come to anyone’s surprise, but the stench was horrendous. A bunch of men scattered at Rick’s orders, leaving Rick and Alan alone.

“I understand if you want out, Dr. Grant,” Rick said wrapping a towel around his neck. “Some things have happened today... images I’ll never get out of my head, so if you want out... then be my guest. We will still pay you your promised fee, so there are no strings attached... quite frankly I want out myself, but I have a priority I need to fulfill. It’s up to you.”

Alan gazed at the burnt creature a few yards ahead of him and then focused his attention to the ground he lay on. The things he had witnessed were horrifying, but he too had made a commitment... a commitment in which he felt had to be accomplished through thick and thin.

“Where’s the chopper?” Alan asked, ascending with the help of Rick’s hand. Rick smiled and felt a sense of security he hadn’t felt with the presence of fire arms... he had the presence of a survivor.
