To convince Spielberg to go with CGI dinosaurs instead of stop-motion effects, the ILM team animated a herd of dinosaur skeletons running across a field. (From: 'Vader')

"Dangerous warmonger deploys American boots on the ground."

Just kidding. That's how the story would have been written a few years ago (and was).

It's long been my opinion that Obama is not significantly different from Bush in terms of foreign policy. Most liberal media writers and pundits (that is, actual liberals, not just people who work for MSNBC or The New York Times) agree. What I find just as peculiar as the Democratic voters' support for Obama's foreign policies is conservatives' lack of support for it, considering how close it is to what Bush would have done.

If you think this story would have been presented that way under Bush, then I assume you think that was unfair "liberal bias," so do you support Obama here or not?

I told everyone back in '08 before Obama was elected that he would be very similar to Bush in a number of ways, especially foreign policy. Everyone told me I was dumb, and they still tell me that today.

He said that “although the U.S. forces are combat-equipped, they will only be providing information, advice, and assistance to partner nation forces, and they will not themselves engage LRA forces unless necessary for self-defense.”

    Have we heard this before?

I don't have any major problems with it. I support humanitarian application of military power, I just wish we would be a little more consistent about how it is being used.

I'm just getting real sick of our casual use of military power these days. When I was in AWACS, one could expect to be home about six months a year, supporting the GWOT, counter narcotics ops, and Libya. Now that I'm in MC-12, almost everyone seems to spend about two to four months home every year, with the rest of that time supporting just one war. I'm willing to bet we'll soon send the latter over to Africa to support this mission as well. We are quickly eroding our strategic power at this rate, and a lot of our tactical is only 30-70% manned, depending on the platform.

And SOF is always hard-up for manning. We shouldn't be wasting our SOF by sending them to stupid little conflicts like this. 100 is NOT a small number in that community. Like Libya, this conflict has no bearing on America; so why are we there? That's what the blue helmets are for.

The nice thing about this country is that I can support policy positions and not do that.

All the blue helmets do is rape the shit out of underage girls.

At worst, yes. At best, they're completely ineffective. Still, I'm unconvinced that this should be an American burden. If we are to use our military as we have been recently, we should openly announce it. Then we should declare American jurisdiction, if not outright sovereignty, over the entire world. As it is, we have a schizophrenic approach to force projection.

There was a time where I would have fully supported any contingency operation, anytime and anywhere.

Then I actually joined and saw the gross amount of civilian oversight watching every single move I made in theater. Oversight that limited many tactical and strategic decisions that would have saved the lives of American troopers.

One of the largest issues with our modern military is the ability of the civilian to dictate, down to a tactical operation, what a trooper can or cannot do to complete the mission. Whats worse is that the civilian that dictates it has never had a bullet zip by his/her head.

Our next Prez should be from downtown Detroit.

I live in downtown Detroit. It is not that bad.
    Lower-East Detroit would work though.
