    "Palestinians Seek Statehood at U.N."
On 9/23/2011 at 8:45:06 PM, Trainwreck started the thread:
Story. Also keep in mind that the PLO ambassador to the US told reporters that a Palestinian state should be free of Jews. Discuss, unless the topic of what constitutes a single-issue voter is more compelling to you. ;)

I'd rather focus on your latter point, I think it could lead to a fruitful discussion...

Seriously, the Palestinians do not want a two state solution. They will not allow Israel to remain in existence. They've been offered everything else they wanted over the last two decades and they refuse to take it. They're miscalculating by thinking that Obama will allow this, even if he has been dangerous in encouraging them, as he will not, if only as a result of the house race last week where he lost the Jewish vote. He has to shore up his Jewish vote.

I agree with what you've said. It just continually surprises me that the world allows their hope for a peaceful solution to blind them to the blatant lies and broken promises spewed by the PLO et al for all these years. And of course there's the hypocrisy on the part of many who libel Israel an apartheid state while advocating for a Jew-free Palestine.

Yes, it's hillarious to hear the cries of outrage regarding the Israelis action considering they show more restraint in retaliation than any other country in the world, save possibly for South Korea but their provocations are lesser and far between.

I had the pleasure of taking part in a dialogue with the IDF a few years ago.

If the Palestinians don't go through the proper peace process they shouldn't be allowed to create thier own state. Without the UN breathing down thier necks it'll lead to a VERY hostile state being founded.

However...while I agree the Israelis do deserve thier own state...they went about it the wrong way in the 40s and have been royal pricks to the Palestinians since then.

Both sides need to change. It's a delicate situation.

How were they pricks? Following the end of British involvement in bringing Jews to Israel, the UN took over and approved the Partition Plan for Palestine, which would've divided the country into two states, but of course the Palestinians rejected it and started attacking Jews. Israel literally had no choice but war. Ever since, Israel has been besieged by those who literally want nothing less than another Jewish Holocaust, and even though Israel keeps agreeing to give the Palestinians nearly everything they want, every time Israel makes a concession, they're rewarded by more suicide attacks and rockets in their cities.

Israel has shown more restraint than any other nation in history. The world is and has been extremely unfair to them regarding this conflict. Israel does not need to change, only the Palestinians do. Once they want to live in peace more than send their children to kill themselves and Jewish civilians, we can have peace. Unfortunately, the Palestinians as a culture worship death and celebrate genocide.
