"Didn't realize things had gone this far in England"

    Things Americans take for granted.

Britain has problems dude. Big problems. You think that story is bad - try living with all this Royal Wedding crap day-in-day-out.

Unbelievable that such a significant portion of our population still get all sentimental and weepy-eyed at the anachronistic, undemocratic bolocks that is the Monarchy.

Fingers crossed that real political and constitutional reform is in our future when the Queen passes away.

    We're becoming a national joke.

Holy shit. "The law is the law." Isn't it the police's right to determine what constitutes an arrest? If they felt it was ridiculous too, then what the fuck?

I'd probably be serving a life sentence or two over there for what I've said about Asians in the past year.

I mean, what is this, I don't even...? I've heard of these laws, and I've heard about radio hosts like Michael Savage and other "polarizing" figures being put on Britain's "ban list" as well. What in the FUCK is wrong with you guys over there? I seriously want to know what the problem is, and as I generally consider myself an Anglophile, I'm very saddened by what I'm constantly seeing and hearing from over there. Is there no hope, Grinch?

And yeah, we're pretty sick of all the Royal Wedding coverage over here too (well I'm not in America right now, but I get American news where I am, etc.). B-list celebrities should not be getting this attention; even though I generally have high esteem for your princes, I think that once William gets the throne he should just put an end to royalty forever, assuming he has that power.

Heck, even in the U.S. we are getting smothered with all this crap about the Royal Wedding. Seriously, who gives a fuck?

I'm kind of curious though....how much power do the Queen, the Princes, etc. actually have these days? It seems like the Prime Minister is really the one calling the shots now.

Msg #5: On 4/28/2011 at 11:18:33 PM, Siir replied, saying:
I know nothing about the royal family aside from little tidbits I hear here and there.

I thought I heard one time that the Queen had *theoretical* power to dismiss the Prime Minister from office, but that if she were to ever try to do so in this day and age that she'd be completely dismissed. I'm not sure that what I heard about that theoretical authority is true or not.

So far as I know though, they're just figureheads. They have prestige, and they can travel to other countries as representatives of their "kingdom" and might actually have some use in foreign relations.

But not being from the UK, nor even really caring in the long run. I could be wrong on all accounts.

Not so much an indictment against Britain as it is the police being obliged to follow up on harassment cases. He wasn't charged with anything in the end.

The Sun invents things most of the time. Looks like he was on street bail, which means he was asked and voluntarily showed up to the police station to answer questions.

I watched the Royal wedding and I liked it. Especially the Royal smut. Did anyone see the princess of the Netherlands? Niiice
