Eddie Carr was originally supposed to be the "hero" in TLW, which explains why the Eddie action figure comes with the so-called "hero hat". (From: 'Salvester2')

James Horner, the consummate film composer known for his heart-tugging scores for Field of Dreams, Braveheart and Titanic, for which he won two Academy Awards, died Monday in a plane crash near Santa Barbara. He was 61.

A terrible shame. Caught Aliens at an outdoor screening a couple of years ago and Horner's striking score was the same blast of brilliance I've been enjoying for almost thirty years.

I still listen to the scores for Perfect Storm, Titanic and Casper. Next to John Williams, Horner was absolutely my favorite film score composer, and I lament that I won't ever hear a new composition by him. RIP.

No, this is seriously cause for folks to feel bummed. He died from an accident, not from old age.

Yeah, I might act that way if John Williams croaked, but Horner was twenty years younger and died in a plane crash.

I'm not a huge fan of most of Horner's scores (though he did orchestrate the greatest version of the Star Trek theme), but it was in very poor taste earlier today when Slate wrote an obituary on him and derisively referred to his work as "middle-brow".

Wow. Clearly they're looking for page views. Hate that shit. There is no shame these days, just looking for a dollar.

Anyway, I will miss his work. It will be two or three less great scores to count on each year. Aliens is one of my favourites.

A plane he crashed himself! I dont know why all these rich people think they can pay for a couple weeks of flight lessons and then buy a plane. Didn't he watch Jurassic World? Did the great tragedy of BossMan Masrani not hit him like it did the rest of us?

Amazing Spiderman had a perfect score, when he's swinging around for the first time and before he runs off the building to do the crane swing are my favorite superhero moments put to screen and the music is a massive part of that.
    Troy sucked though.
