    "The Martian"

This years Ridley. Hopefully he aimed above a Robin Hood or an Exodus this time.

It feels like Ridley going Nolan. It looks good, but I get this creeping feeling like the trailer spoiled the whole film for me.

I don't think it spoiled anything, and, even if it did, the book is really popular and has been out for a while. I also don't think it looks like him "going Nolan" other than the weird coincidence that it's also a science fiction movie where Matt Damon plays a NASA astronaut stranded on a desolate alien world.

Msg #3: On 6/8/2015 at 4:27:50 PM, Carnotaur3 replied, saying:
Did you forget Jessica Chastain (or however you spell her name) is in this?

Yeah it's pretty weird that Matt Damon plays a stranded astronaut and Jessica wants to rescue him lol.

Anyway looks cool, if reviews are good I'll be seeing this.

I saw her in the trailer, but whatever. You're acting like it's an actual ripoff of Insterstellar when it's based on a novel that came out four years ago. Also, Interstellar sucked ass and I'm all for Ridley Scott making the same kind of thing if it's good.

Msg #6: On 6/8/2015 at 5:19:19 PM, Carnotaur3 replied, saying:
LOL, I wasn't acting like it was a ripoff. You're projecting much.

It's quite obvious that Ridley was inspired to make this movie because of Interstellar.

You said he's "going Nolan" and then "did you forget..." with this corrective tone to point out how similar the films are, and, just now, in the post that you said "LOL, I wasn't acting like it was a ripoff," of Interstellar, you said Scott was obviously inspired to make the film because of Interstellar. I'm "projecting much"?

Msg #8: On 6/8/2015 at 6:28:45 PM, Carnotaur3 replied, saying:
I was pointing out that it wasn't a coincidence that Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain are both in this movie. But you said it was.

And then you proceeded to tell me I'm acting like it's a ripoff as if I'm going around shouting at people to not see the film because gee golly, Scott ripped off Nolan.

    This is real silly.

Calling something a ripoff doesn't mean you're telling people not to see it or that it will be bad.

    Maybe it's a homage

I loved the book so I'm excited to see this. It looks like a pretty faithful adaptation, but it seems to be missing some of the book's humor. Not sure if that's just how the trailer was cut, or if the film is going to be more dramatic, but the book is often very funny.

For what it's worth, the book's tone and story never once reminded me of Interstellar. (It is odd that Damon's playing a stranded astronaut two movies in a row, though.) It's more like Apollo 13 meets Cast Away with a geek botanist as the main character.

My guess is that the trailer is cut to make it seems like more of a thriller because a light-hearted hard science fiction movie is a tougher sell.

Msg #16: On 6/10/2015 at 12:37:04 AM, JPwonderboy replied, saying:
I have interest in seeing this movie, but I'm not watching the trailer or any promos. I watched AMC Movie Talk last night and Mark Ellis (one of the Schmoes) said that the trailer essentially spoiled most of the story. Since Mark is a typically laid-back dude, to see him so lit up & pissed was a rarity. So I'll take his word on it and avoid this until I see the actual movie.

Can Ridley stop with this shit and just go make more historical epics and blade runner 2, fml

It sucks that Scott is basically the only person making historical epics any more because I really love the genre but all of his suck (and, yes, before anyone asks, I've seen the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven).

Well fuck you then, that's the best historical epic in like 20 years. I always just want to go become a knight right after it. Naturally, after about 3 minutes the feeling fades, but still. Usually the most a movie makes we want to do is check my house for murderers or monsters or maybe replay a sex scene and beat off. BUT BECOME A KNIGHT? That shit is crazy.
