    "Hey everyone"
On 3/8/2018 at 1:10:50 PM, elementry started the thread:
Holy shit. I forgot this existed!? (Chris why didn't you remind me?!)

Anyway, I'm currently deployed to Bahrain. Only got 28 days left of a year long tour. It's been pretty rough to be honest with the duty load. Got promoted here to Chief. So that's pretty cool.

The reason I'm rambling, I suppose, is because I'm really fucking depressed. I've been stressed out for years and kept it pretty much to myself. I hate being in the military but I've only got 8 more years to go to retirement. I feel like this career has destroyed part of me.

Feels good to write on here again. It's been many years.

Lots of people have had their soul sucked out because of their job. But if you're legitimately depressed you should evaluate if it's worth waiting another 8 years. That's a LONG time especially when you hate your job.

At least seek a mental health professional I'd say.

Yeah dude, if you're already dealing with depression owing to your job, eight years is way too long to go without seeking some kind of aid.

Hey man, if I would've remembered this page existed myself, maybe I woulda! ;)

Sucks to hear you're going through a shitty career patch, but honestly I think I know how you feel. About 4 years ago I found myself pretty disillusioned with the military, to the point where I even considered not reenlisting despite hitting the halfway mark and having no plans post-service. I also happened to be finishing up overseas. I may not know exactly what you're referring to when you say it's destroyed part of you, but I certainly feel as though I've compromised some values along the way. I certainly don't mean that in the sense I've ever intentionally acted unethically or against the interests of the US, but I suspect you may be able to relate somewhat here.

Of course I wound up reenlisting, and reenlisted yet again just last month for what I hope is the last time. As of 2 days ago, I have 6 years remaining, and a couple weeks ago I just pinned on Senior Master Sergeant, so hooray for us disaffected servicemembers promoting into senior enlisted ranks. Congrats on your promotion though, seriously - that's awesome, and I'm glad folks like you (who can think) can get promoted.

I am still set on retiring at 20 and not a day later. What I can say is that, for me, it was the right call to keep going. I'm at our flying training squadron so if I stay here, I'll have at least a couple years of minimal TDYs and no deployments, which is good since Kim and I have a 7-month old and are 'working on' getting one more.

So, regardless of whether you stay for 20 or not, I hope you wind up somewhere better than you are at the moment. What's next after Bahrain? Hit me up on FB if you want, I'm always available and will respond.

Jesus Christ. Yeah I cannot relate to that level of job commitment but I'm currently hating my job as well. I feel like this HAS to be the last retail job I have (after 14 years of retail jobs) or I'm gonna go nuts. It's soul-sucking. I HAVE to get some kind of work in the film or television industry soon.
