    "raptor2000 memorial thread"
On 5/17/2015 at 4:18:52 AM, fordprefect started the thread:

Msg #267: On 5/12/2015 at 5:20:17 PM, raptor2000 replied to Msg #265, saying:
What little conversation actually happens around here nearly immediately diverges into pointless whining, accusations, and name calling. I know it's always been that way around here but I at least used to enjoy coming here and occasionally had fun, intelligent conversations and debates with some of you. I get absolutely no joy out of coming here anymore, and have gotten to where I don't even bother reading a handful of some people's post, and rarely feel the need to post myself anymore. This doesn't feel like a community of friends anymore...it feels like going into a job you don't really like and being around people that merely tolerate each other. So, while I'm sure a majority of you will be happy to read this, I am ending my 16-year-long history with this site. I'm married now, have a home, a full time job, a family, real friends, and while I enjoyed the drama of this place in high school and college, life is just too short to bother with it now. So to the select few of you who still consider me a friend, it's been a memorable ride and you can still catch me on Facebook. To the rest of you....welp, s'long. Let's all keep hoping JW doesn't suck (but, realistically, it probably will).

i agree with raptor2000. i have been coming to dan's jp pages since 1997. that's eighteen years. in fact, it's been so long that my password is still the name of my decades gone high school girlfriend. this place was once very vibrant and welcoming. now, it's mostly become a bridge for internet trolls to hide under. i was hoping it would pick up and become more like it used to be with all the "jurassic world" excitement, but it didn't. and that's disappointing to me.

I've never had a warm and vibrant welcoming to this site, and I, for one, love it! What is the point of a Jurrasic Park fan page without healthy cyber abuse to satisfy my masochistic urges?

Honestly though, the type of hostility that this page has is a good kind. It keeps people in check. None of this "I like, respect your opinion, but I guess we can agree to disagree on this, and love each other!" nonsense. (I mean, some of you guys do try to do that, but it's never about anything that matters)

Also, when you first came here you were, like... what, 7-11? people actually talk about real shit now. Like linkin park

    Do you have Alzheimer's?

We literally had "site wars" 10 years ago where people hated each other. Dumbfucks like SGD were rampant. That's how pathetically stupid this place was.

This is honestly the least trolly board I frequent on the internet. Everyone's been weeded out.

Vinny's right. This place can get a little stupid, but would you prefer Reddit or 4Chan, where every thread has two thousand different posters in it and over half are troll accounts spamming everything with racial slurs and gore pics?

This place is a little too slow, but I can't cope with other online forums. I once joined a forum for the rock band The Killers, and any comments or interesting threads were lost in the mire everyday. It was just too much. This is the only online forum I've ever really been a member of. I don't see how raptor2000 doesn't have the time for this place, because it can take under a minute to evaluate what's going on most of the time - unless something interesting happens.

He'll be back anyway, even if it's just lurking. (After that post I imagine he'd be too proud to admit it.) You can't just end a 16 year commitment to a site about Jurassic Park on the eve of the next film.

I'm actually surprised that these boards are still active.

I poke in from time to time, but usually the active conversations are things I don't know anything about (shows I don't watch, films I probably won't see, etc). so I don't chime in that often anymore.

I would have figured things would just shift to Facebook or whatever, given that half of us seem to be on first name bases anyway, and talking for like over a decade in some instances.

I remember a long time ago posting on the Universal Studios forums for JP3, but everyone was leaving to come here, and then there were those UFX forums or whatever. For some reason I was really adamant about staying on the Universal Studios forums, and it got to the point that I became a moderator merely for being the last person there. Back then being a moderator was some stupid thing that made me feel important. Then like within the past couple years I was a moderator on TheForce.Net JediCouncil forums and my God was that just awful.

Yeah, the self-policing here seems to work just fine, and any squabbles don't seem to really persist a long time. Granted, I'm not here daily, but Monkipiddles or whatever his name was being a delusional moron that found Jesus and Dieter being a troll seemed to be the only two ongoing targets that immediately spring to mind

Careful what you wish for. And wonderfag, I dunno why you think it's such an outlandish concept. You showed up to a defunct website years after no one remembers you anyway, right at the time when a member everyone hates mysteriously vanishes. On top of that you're always trying to steer discussion towards jurassic park, which, lol obvious right, but no, not really, we hardly ever talk JP and the only person who would make similar sounding arguments was our good buddy Smarr. Couple that with Smarr admitting that he had a bunch of old usernames and you generally just being a stupid twat and you have the makings of one hell of a peanut butter sandwhich. Either you're the same person or we're just super lucky to attract multiple users with your particular brand of autism.
