Prologue to The Following Evil Trilogy
Court examined the book closely, he studied the sketches of the werewolf. They were very realistic. "I wonder if they really look like that."
Lea Johnson sat down in her arm chair looking at the fire listening to the radio. 1919 was they year, it was December 2nd today. They were going to leave on the 31rst, they were going to go see Wolf Castle. They didn’t know what was in store for them. Lea thought it would be quite a rush zooming around a gigantic castle.
Was it really crawling with werewolves described in the book? Was it just an urban legend. Did the castle even exist? Would it be dangerous? Would anyone die?
Lea sat back, her head full of questions and general wonderings. Lea was worried and yet excited. Lea was worried that she would never see her father again. He had left for Austraila. He left her mother for another woman. By the name of… her name was Lea. Just like her. Lea picked up the post and started reading it. The Russian Revolution was still going on. She remembered in 1916 when she was 15 she heard about the Zars family being butchered.
At that moment Jeff Finure walked in the room and smiled at Lea, she jumped up and hugged him tightly. She held onto him for almost a minute, thinking about her problems and then the fire popped and she then let go of him.
"Are you alright, honey?" Said Jeff.
"I think so…" She said.
Jeff walked away again and tucked something into his pocket so Lea couldn’t see what it was. It was a diamond ring. He was going to propose to her when they went to Wolf Castle.
Jany Leno lay on her bed thinking about all of her adventures she was going to go on. She was going to go to Translyvannia after Wolf Castle. Vampires were predicted not to be real, but werewolves had been sighted. Just because one supposedly fantasy creature existed didn’t mean any others did.
After Transylvannia she was going to go to Germany, then France and then…
Jany was tired, she had been sick and was daydreaming all day, with a hot water bottle under her back. She moved the hot water bottle to her stomach and drifted off to sleep.
Garry Colter set up some targets outside and picked up his shotgun. He loaded two rounds in it and fired. He hit the first target, which exploded in a myst of cardboard. He yanked out another pair of rounds and loaded it in four seconds and blew away the second target. Just then Lea popped out of the back window of the cabin that they were staying in.
"Garry, we are all kind of settled down here, and the shotgun is very loud. Do you think you could wait until morning?" Said Lea, rubbing her eyes.
Garry looked down at his shotgun and set it down on the ground. "Sure, okay. I’m getting a little tired too, but I’m not going on this trip without a shotgun and plenty of rounds.
"Oh, Garry, we don’t want to kill them, and we’ll be safe if we just keep a distance." Said Lea.
"Well, maybe. But we don’t know what could happen." Replied Garry.
"Goodnight, Garry."
Lea put her head on the armrest and her legs on the opposite armrest. Her day had brightened up a little bit. She was going to be spend the rest of her life living in the moment. She wasn’t going to look back or forward. She started thinking about what it would be like in the year 1960, then she noticed she wasn’t living in the moment.
She looked at the ceiling and smiled. She wasn’t going to let anything make her feel down. She was going to have fun on her trip nothing else was going to go wrong in her life. Nothing…
