    The Haunted Pines Ch 1

What you are about to read is in fact a true story. Is it about the mysterious forests in Northern Michigan. The forests where no one knows about, where know one goes. This was taken from actual events. Everything you read from here on out will be in fact be true.

How I am going to tell this story I am not sure. I sit here at my computer, pondering what I had seen. It came 3 years ago, but he memory it stillburned in my skull. I guess the only to tell it is the way it is.

There are over a billion species of known organisms on this planet. Yet, we feel there are to be many more undiscovered. Maybe we can’t look in these places because it is not possible. Or maybe we just never thought of looking...

The Pero’s had a cabin “up north” near West Branch, Michigan. They were by no means rich, although working at Dow, the father had good money. They would visit this cabin almost three times a year. They had a good time. Drinking, laughing. They were all alone in the forest, so they would spend their days shooting dear if they were sober enough, and their nights under the stars telling jokes.
But it was one of these times that didn’t “fly” as well. Sure, no one got hurt, but that couldn’t have been sure of at the time.
Brandon Pero, the eldest son, was 14. He would take these trips as an opportunity to shoot his shotgun at trees, and sit around being lazy.
On the date of 8-??-99, the Badours came along, hoping for some fun. I was one of them. As we drove toward the premises, I knew this would be a secluded place. It reminded me of Jurassic Park, there were ferns hitting our car as we passed. It opened up into a wide field, forking. We hit a left, and drove the some 100 feet to the cabin.
As we rolled to a stop, it really reminded me of Jurassic Park. Being a city boy, I never see the forest as much as I’d like to. But this forest was nothing like I had seen before. In every angle, birds were chirping. It was never silent. I felt I was in the middle of some foreign jungle. But I was ten, and ten year olds always think this way.
My cousin came out of the cabin, hearing our car pull up. He waved to me then walked back inside. It left me almost blank. Almost as if he had stiffed me.
I strode forward. The cabin was old, I could tell. not uncomfortable, just old. It was a two story high wooden cabin.
I opened the front door and walked in. It smelled strongly of eggs, but that would make sense, seeing as how it was, looking at my watch, ten o clock in the morning.
My first impression of the cabin was quite surprising. Straight forward, there were some nice sofas and a TV. To the left, was a kitchen. I walked over there, and oddly noticed “Joke cans” that had slogans like, “Fish testicals” and “Frog Tongue.” I winced.
I finally reached the stairs, also noticing that their was another room straight ahead. It looked like a sauna, though I couldn’t tell.
I got to the top of the stairs to notice my cousin on the bed. He was laying down. I walked up to him.
“What are you doing?” It was an obvious question, and one he hated to answer.
“I don’t know. I think I’m just tired is all.”
Now this isn’t unusual. He is always somewhat quiet, secluded. It takes a while to “warm him up” and get him to talk.
So, I figured he wanted to be alone. I went down stairs, and finished the day sitting by the fire and playing pool. Although I didn’t know this would be the last normal day I would have.

    ~

I woke up. The Sun was bright, and it forced me to turn over. I finally opened my eyes, and noticed no one was their.
I walked down the steps to the smell of eggs. Although no one was left in the cabin, it still smelled strongly. There were plates strewn everywhere. I had already out on my clothes, so I threw my shoes on. I walked outside, and noticed the adults were by the fire.
“Where’s Brandon?” I asked my uncle. he turned.
“Josh, he just left down the road, you can catch him if you hurry.”
I took off, he wasn’t that far ahead, so I didn’t run that fast. In a half a minute I caught up to him.
“Where you going?” I asked him.
“I am not sure,” He laughed lightly, then walked on. he could see I didn’t get the joke. I still don’t to this day. “I haven't been down this side of the road.” he continued on.
I found it hard to believe, but I went with him anyways.
We walked for quite a ways, longer than I think my parents would have liked. We came through a clearing, and then led a long dirt road through trees. The road hasn’t been used for years.
“Yes, Josh, I have been here before. I want to show you something,” He never told me anything. That’s just how he is. He still is.
“Then why did you leave without me?”
“Because I knew you would catch up,” I hate it when he does that.
We made a sharp turn, and then we saw a camper. Right in a clearing. Just a camper. But it was old. It hadn't been used for years, just left there. This was the first sign I had that this was going to be a different trip.
“Have you seen this?” I asked him.
“No. We hunt back there, we take a turn, and veer off this road,” He pointed back.
We passed the camper, and it stuck me almost as panicky. Questions like why it was there and who left it and why kept plaguing me, although these wouldn’t be the last questions I would ask myself.
We made another turn, and this was where it all began. I looked ahead, and I saw pine trees. On either side, extended for hundred of feet, before arcing in a circle. There was something different about these trees though, something I couldn't just point out. But when we crossed the trees, I saw it. They were all inline. Every one of them made a perfectly straight line. We crossed these trees, and then they all ended. I never a pine tree after that. After we crossed, I entered what would be later known as The Haunted Pines.

Stay tuned for Ch. 2 of this three-part series. Coming soon.

Afterthought: All these events are true. The trees in symmetry exist ,I saw them and couldn’t believe it. The camper too, is real. Except that it was covered in vines and up growth.
