Tales of Gondor: The Call to Arms - Chapter 2
    By sithraptor

Baidyn carefully slipped through the houses of Jerancho, towards his father's shop. He unlocked the door, and went to the back chambers, where the metal armor and weapons were forged. He lifted s bulky shield, and then a sword. He quickly outfitted himself in helm and a thick chest-peice. The armor has been crafted for a Gondorian Ranger, who had paid large sums of money for the armor, using the money of his family's high noble position in Denethor's court. However, the Ranger had been ambushed by Orcs while on patrol and killed, and now his armor would face battle with a different warrior.

    "So, you're leaving."

Baidyn jumped when he heard the voice, at first thinking that it was a friend who would report his actions to his father. Then, he turned, and saw that it was Teela. She was the most stunning young woman in all of Jerancho, as Baidyn had often told his friends. She was but a few years older than him, but it seemed many years wiser. He had meant to tell her all of this. Now, it seemed he would not have the chance.

"I must," he said. "For Lord Denethor."

"For foolish ideals," she replyed. "Even Captain Faramir himself will not be able to stand up to Sauron's forces. I'm sure of it."

"Well, that's not a very optimistic outlook," Baidyn said.

"These are dark days, and they will be even darker still, before this conflict is over. I'm sure you didn't get your father's permission."

"No, I didn't. But I must go, Teela. I know, if there is anything I know, it is that I am called to Minas Tirith. You won't tell him, will you?"

"Of course not," Teela said. "But you should remain. Please. I don't want to see you spitted on the spear of an orcish solder, or your head as a trophy on the belt of an Easterling. Please stay."

"I can't," Baidyn said. "And I won't. I must leave now, before the riders depart."

"Then I fear I shall never see you again," she stated.

"Oh, you will," smiled Baidyn, trying to comfert her. "When this is all said and done, you will."

They embraced quietly, hugging for what seemed like eternity. Then, Teela quietly walked down the path to the edge of town, where she liked to go and contemplate important matters. Baidyn locked the store, and walked to the center of Jerncho, and the Riders of Gondor who had come to town.

"My name is Tallanor," said the cammdning rider. He was tall and hardened, and had seen much battle already.

Baidyn watched him with respect, as the Captain of Gondor briefed his drafted troops. Baidyn looked at the other men and boyds who had come. He saw that Ganadon was indeed with them, and frowned. He also saw that many of his friends were with them, then forwned again, as he realized they might be riding to their doom. Many of the horses of the town were coming with them, to carry the new group of solders.

"We will swing by Anosloth and Ergon, to collect more riders, before setting out for Minas Tirth. Stay close, and listen to all commands. And if Orcs or Haradrim attack us before we reach the city, there will be conflict. So be prepared.

With that, the group set out for Minas Tirth, and battle.
