    School Day Epilogue
    By aragorn_8

    ~ EPILOGUE ~

    The Memorial Service

Three days had passed, and the families each held their own respective funeral, for their family members who had died.
The school, however, held their own Memorial Service, where the students and teachers could attend, and anyone who had been killed in the school massacre, was thought about and mentioned during the service.
It was a bright sunny day, which was kind of ironic, given the situation, and they were in a grassy field behind Great Mills High School. There were chairs set up so the people who attended could sit in them, instead of in the snow, which had already started melting. Among these people, were the survivors of the massacre all sitting in different spots, as well as Dirisha, and Andrea. But Angela was no where to be seen. She simply hadn’t shown up.
At the front, was a podium, where the vice-principal was speaking. Beside him was a sheet, covering a large object.
“We are gathered here today,” The vice-principal announced. “To respect and honour our students and friends who were killed during the massacre.”
Throughout the crowd, almost every single pair of eyes were red and had tears in them, the others were trying their best to fight back the tears.
“Throughout the service, I want each and every one of you to do something for me. If the person next do to you is crying, I want you to put a hand on their back and say to them ‘It’s going to be all right.’ We will be having different teachers and students coming up and making speeches, and at the end, if you want to add something, just raise your hand and I’ll allow you do to stand up and speak.”
As he looked out at the people gathered, he saw that they were all holding roses, and he knew why. They were asked to bring one rose each, for a special event. He was about to announce that event.
“Out of respect for those who died, we got a statue created in their honour.” He went over and pulled the sheet off the object and underneath was a statue in the shape of two hands holding together, shaking hands.
The Vice-Principal continued. “One hand signifies the population of the school as we are now, and the other signifies those who died. We are clasping hands, never letting go, and never forgetting about the other. At this time, as the band starts do to play ‘The Rose’ I want those of you with flowers to come up to this statue and place your flower in front of it. You may stand in front of it as long as you want, paying your respects. Anyone else who wishes, may also come up and pay their respects.”
The band started up and it started playing ‘The Rose’ as some students and teachers stood up, some crying, and started walking to the memorial with their flowers. Others stayed in their seat, their heads bowed, hands over their eyes.
One of these people was Allison, who couldn’t bare to go up. She was crying so hard, she thought she’d never stop. Then she felt a hand on her back and she turned her head and wiped her eyes so she could see.
She saw a teacher, who she had only seen a couple times in the hall, but had never really met or knew. “It’ll be all right.” He said, rubbing her back. That only made Allison cry harder.
Allison saw shadows fall over her and looked up, seeing Dillon, Edward, and Candice standing in front of her, their eyes wet with tears as well.
Without saying anything, they all knelt and hugged each other, in one circle, and cried harder.
After a couple minutes, they stood up and slowly made their way to the memorial and laid their flowers down and stood, arms over each other’s shoulder, standing, looking at the memorial. As they looked, they noticed that each person who had died had their name sketched into the stone.
They were still crying and Allison looked over and saw the teacher who had been sitting next to her, standing, looking at the memorial, and tears started coming to his eyes, and he finally started crying.
Allison reached over and rubbed his back. “It’ll be alright.” She smiled as he looked at her, and tried to smile back.
After a couple minutes, the teacher went back, and Allison, Dillon, Edward, and Candice heard a lot of sniffling and crying from behind them, in the seats, and they also heard ‘It’ll be alright’ whispered back and forth between the people.
They stood in front of the memorial and cried together, for their friends who had died.
