    School Day Chapter 8
    By aragorn_8

    ~ CHAPTER 8 ~

    Hostility

Leticia’s older sister, Megan, was sitting at home, out of her police uniform. She wondered where her sister was, but wasn’t worried, because just like the other families, thought that she was at a friend’s house.
Leticia’s father walked into the living room, where Megan was sitting on a couch, watching T.V.
“Megan, did do the laundry?” The father asked.
Megan rolled her eyes. Here she was, 26 years old, and only home for a visit, and her father was checking to see if she did her chores. Inside, it made her laugh, but she only smiled on the outside.
“Yes Dad, of course. I’ve been on my own for awhile now. I think I can manage to do chores without needing to be reminded.”
“I was just checking.” The Father turned to walk out of the room, but turned back. “Has Leticia come home yet?”
“No. The blizzard’s to bad. She’ll probably be spending the night over at one of her friend’s places.”
“Ok.” the Father turned and walked out of the room as Megan went back to the T.V.

Mrs. Furankee and Savanna walked down a hall in the school, shining their lights around. The wind still howled, and as they walked by a window, they saw the storm wasn’t letting up.
They walked by a big map of the school that was on a wall in a plexi-glass case and down another couple halls. They walked by a window and when Savanna looked out, all she could see was snow blowing around, and whiteness.
They walked some more and came to a bathroom.
Mrs. Furankee ordered Savanna, "When you're done, stay in the bathroom until I come back to get you. I'm going to get some food."
"Ok." As Savanna turned in to go to the bathroom, she noticed it was the guys'. "This is the Male washroom!"
"It doesn't matter. They're all in the office." So Savanna turned and went in, and Mrs. Furankee turned back to find the nearest set of stairs to bring her to the next floor to the cafeteria.

Inside the bathroom, the only light was from Savanna's flashlight because there were no windows. She laid her light on the counter, next to the sink, and pointed it towards a stall, so the light shined on it.
She walked over and into the stall.

Mrs. Furankee was just entering the cafeteria, shining her light around the huge empty room.
She walked over to the KFC spot and laid her flashlight down on the tray counter, so she could get some food. She walked behind the counter and over to the storage room for KFC and hauled open the big metal door. It took all her strength, but she got it open.
She walked in and took a huge brown paper bag and opened it up. She started looking around the shelves of food and began taking some of the food off the shelves and putting it in a big KFC bag.
Suddenly she heard the sound of metal scratching on metal and it was ear shattering. Out of all the noises in the world that annoyed Mrs. Furankee more then anything, was the sound of metal on metal was on the top of the list.
She looked up and saw knew what she would see even before she saw it. Out of the darkness, she saw Grim Reaper walking into the room, scraping his scythe against the walls as he walked, leaving a mark on the walls.
Mrs. Furankee quickly ducked back down behind the counter, putting her back to it. Her heart was thumping so hard in her chest, she was sure that Grim Reaper could hear it. Sweat was starting to form on her head, and she was trying her best to hold her breath, but wasn’t doing it so well.
Though it helped that she heard the sound of footsteps getting closer. Closer. Closer. And then they stopped. She waited a minute, and there was no sound. She sighed, thinking he left, but then a second later, a scythe blade smashed through the counter, right next to her head, coming through the side of the counter!
She let out a blood-curdling scream as the blade retracted back out with a shing! Then she stood up and ran, leaving the stalker behind.
She rushed over to a walk_in freezer behind KFC and, with more speed then she had with the Storage room, she opened the metal door and ran inside, slamming the door shut behind her.
She had immediately felt the sub-zero temperatures and wished that she had worn more warmer clothes to school that morning. At that time, to her surprise, she found herself wondering what time of day it was. It should have been at least 3:30 in the afternoon.
She slowly backed up, starting to cry, going deeper and deeper into the freezer. She had never imagined herself leaving this world by being murdered. She always thought she would grow old and die in her sleep. Not like this.
Her back went against the back wall, and she felt something squishy and soft there. At first she thought it was something that wasn’t completely frozen, but then it hit her that the only thing that wouldn’t be completely frozen in here was if it was in there recently, but the power’s been out so nothing could have been put in there because they had all been in the office.
Though hesitantly, she figured that she had to know. She had to force herself, but she managed to turn around and then she screamed even louder.
She had backed up into Mrs. Stuart's body! It was hung there by a hook going through her neck, keeping her suspended above the floor. Frozen blood caked her mouth, neck, and front of her shirt.
Mrs. Furankee screamed again and turned and ran out of the walk_in freezer, expecting to run into Grim Reaper and tackle him to the floor if it got him out of her way.
When she got out into the main part of the cafeteria, she looked around in the darkness, but Grim Reaper was gone!
She was trying to decided to use this chance to leave, or to go back for the food and flashlight, and then leave. She only had to think about it for a second before she turned and walked across the room, leaving.
Right as she was about to leave, Grim Reaper walked out from around the corner, walking in the doorway, holding his scythe.
Mrs. Furankee screamed bloody murder. The killer dropped his scythe and it clanged to the floor. He reached inside his cloak, and after a second, pulled out a big, round, test tube full of some kind of greenish liquid.
Mrs. Furankee’s eyes looked to the side of the test tube and saw what was written on it: ACID/Science Lab 2.
She started backing up slowly as Grim Reaper removed the lid and dropped it to the floor, slowly taking steps forward, following his victim. He moved the test tube high up and then suddenly, without warning, splashed the contents all over the teacher, the bulk of it getting on her face.
She covered her face with her hands and screamed louder then she ever did before as the pain became unbearable and she wanted it to all be over, even if it did mean her death.
Steam started rising and creating a hissing sound as the acid ate away at the teacher. She removed her hands and her face was red and gooey, and still melting, and since her hands had been on her face, they too, had started melting, the flesh bubbling. In some parts, the bones of her skull and hands could be seen.
Grim Reaper pushed her, sending her to the floor. He walked over to one of the counters, stepping over Mrs. Furankee’s body to do so, and removed a knife from a knife holder.
As he walked back, Mrs. Furankee jumped back up, even more melted then before, and still screaming, looking like some kind of toxic monster from a B horror movie.
She started walking towards the killer, who used this instant to throw the knife, and with precise accuracy, embedding it in one of Mrs. Furankee's eyes.
Her head snapped back as the knife hit her, and she fell back to the floor. Grim Reaper walked over to his scythe, picked it up, and looked back at the teacher, seeing her body thrashing and convulsing.
After a minute, the body settled down, not moving. Grim Reaper turned and left.

Savanna was waiting in the dark of the bathroom for Mrs. Furankee to return. She was shining her light around, very uneasy about being alone. She wished that Mrs. Furankee would hurry up and come get her, or else she was going to leave by herself pretty soon.
Suddenly the light flickered and went out.
"Damn it!" Savanna whispered loudly as she tried hitting the flashlight, trying to get it to come back on, but it wouldn’t work.
She left it alone, and started looking around the complete dark room, even more uneasy then she was before.
A few minutes passed and she soon started hearing breathing besides her own, and to test her theory, she held her breath, and she still heard the breathing.
She whipped around, completely scared, and felt something with a sharp point lightly tap her stomach, so that if she even breathed out, the blade would dig into her.
She backed up a bit and screamed. She turned and booted it out of the bathroom and down the hall, faster then she’s ever ran before. Part way down the hall, she looked behind her and saw Grim Reaper close behind her, exiting the bathroom, his scythe being held by both hands, the blade facing down.
Savanna ran down a few more halls and looked behind. She saw Grim Reaper coming, but he was far behind, as if he wasn’t even trying to catch her. She was running and he was just walking.
Savanna turned and ran into the theatre room, where the drama kids were supposed to meet, if school continued on after this.
She looked around for a place to hide. She saw a couple of doors leading to different rooms and side rooms, but most were just closets. One these doors, however, was labelled 'Wardrobe'. She opened it, walked through, and closed it behind her, quietly.
Once inside, she looked around and saw that the new room was full of different costumes and cloths on racks and hangers, and props were all over the room. Her eyes located a big crate full of unfolded clothes, just piled there, as if it was a laundry hamper.
She climbed up and inside the crate and buried herself under the clothes.
After a couple minutes, she heard the sound of the theatre doors being opened and then a minute later, the door to the wardrobe room opened.
She heard footsteps come in and stop. After a minute she heard them get further and heard the door close.
"Thank_you, God!" She whispered. She suddenly noticed that the cloths on top of her were being removed! She looked up and saw Grim Reaper looking down at her, but she couldn’t see under the hood.
"Someone help!" Savanna screamed out as Grim Reaper picked her up with two powerful arms, and carried the screaming and kicking Savanna out of the room and into the adjacent theatre room, which was much like the gym, only with carpeted floor.
He carried her up a flight of stairs that went over the stage and onto a wooden ledge that overlooked the stage and floor below.
When he got up, he picked up a bundle of rope attached to the wall and put Savanna in a head lock as he used both his hands to tie a loop. When he was done, he put the loop over Savanna's head.
"Leave me alone!" She kicked him and he let go, but as he let go, he also pushed her back, sending her toppling backwards, and off the platform, sending her falling off the edge. The rope stopped her from hitting the stage, but snapped her neck, causing her body to go still.
Grim Reaper picked up his scythe and walked down the stairs. He looked at Savanna's lifeless corpse dangle there and then, after a couple of minutes, moved towards it.

In the office, everyone was anxiously awaiting for Mrs. Furankee and Savanna's return.
"I think we need to start thinking about who could be under that costume." Jeff said, trying to brake the silence. He didn’t really mean to say that, but it was the first thing that came to mind.
"Who do you think it is?" Mr. Johnson asked.
"I think It's Dillon. He's pretty mad that I like Allison and that I didn't stay away from her. And we sort hit of him over the head with a beer bottle this morning. Now he’s missing."
"It's not Dillon!" Steven shouted, standing up, pointing an accusing finger at Jeff. "I know Dillon. He wouldn't do this!"
"Steven, you're a natural born liar." Jeff sighed.
"Hey, you can shut the hell up!" Steven moved forward, his finger suddenly having turned into a fist.
"Kids!" Mr. Fink yelled. "That's enough. We need to all get along until this problem is solved. Now put your differences aside and get along!" Steven put his fist down, turned, and walked back to his seat.
"Now that I think about it..." Jeff trailed off.
"What?" Candice and Allison asked at the same time.
    "It could be Brad!"
"What?" Brad shouted. "Jeff, I thought we were friends!"
"It's just that since you were found, we haven't seen the Reaper. You do have two scythes in your room and that’s what Grim Reaper has, and you were a bit crazy last night."
"Man, it was a joke!" Brad looked around at the people in the room, fear and concern on his face. Was part of that look guilt as well?
"He was with me the whole time!" Jesus announced.
"He has an alibi." Ms. Winegrad said.
"He could be in on it too." Steven pointed a finger at Jesus.
"Yeah." Edward agreed. "You want to get back at all of us for picking on you! That’s why you’ve been ok with it recently. Not fighting back or loosing it at us. Not like last year or any other year."
"I don't mind being picked on anymore. I've gotten used to it!" Jesus tried to defend himself.
"Either way," Jeff said. "Brad is a definite suspect."
"Why? Because I watch a lot of horror movies? For all we know, you could be the killer. You watch and write horror. You gave me a bundle of your stories last night. At least half of them were teen slashers."
"Allison, Savanna, and Candice were with me. And before that, Leticia and Edward were with us. That’s when I first saw Grim Reaper."
    "He's right." Allison said.
    "Yeah." Leticia agreed.
"Maybe it's a teacher." Mr. Fink stated. "Mr. Stuart's been missing for some time."
"Mrs. Stuart been missing as well." Ms. Winegrad said. "And has anyone seen the janitor today?"
"They could all be dead!" Edward yelled. He didn’t mean to yell, and it came off more as a cry of fear then a suggestion.
"Or," Mr. Johnson said, "Mr. Stuart ran off with some other girl, maybe Mrs. Stuart went home when the rest did, and maybe the janitor left as well and no one saw him this morning! There might not even be someone going around. I haven’t seen anyone. You guys might just be saying it for fun. As a joke. For something to do to pass away the time."
"You're all wrong!" Jamie shouted. "Neil's the Reaper!" She ignored Mr. Johnson’s outburst. She knew what she saw. “He might have found out about me and Edward.”
"Possible." Mr. Fink agreed. "He did threaten my class yesterday."
"There's too many possible suspects." Jeff sighed. "Right now lets just find a way out of the school."
"Where's Savanna?" Allison asked. "They've been gone for 20 minutes. Something's happened. We have to go find them!"
"No!" Mr. Johnson shouted. "No one else leaves this room. I'm not risking that thing getting in here, if it is in fact, real. This school is big that’s all. And it looks different when it’s dark. They probably just got lost."
"Look," Jeff said, standing up. "I like Allison. Her sister's out there somewhere so I'm going to help Allison look for her."
Allison stood up and her and Jeff looked at each other and Allison smiled.
"No!" Mr. Johnson shouted, also standing up. "I'm still the principal and you're not leaving! If you open those doors, that guy can get in here!"
Allison turned to Jeff. "Jeff, we have to go." She pleaded.
Jeff looked into her eyes, and then turned back. "She's right."
"I'm going to." Steven said, standing up as everyone else did. "I have to find Dillon."
"You’re all staying here!" Mr. Johnson roared. His face was turning red and he was losing his temper.
"Don't make me punch you!" Steven warned Mr. Johnson as he moved in their way, blocking the doors.
"If you do, you'll be expelled!"
"What's the point in coming to school if all my friends are dead?" Steven punched Mr. Johnson really hard across the face, knocking him to the floor. Red blood started to drip to the floor and they saw that Mr. Johnson's nose was broken.
Steven unlocked and opened the doors and the three of them _ Steven, Jeff, and Allison, left.
"Wait!" Brad ran out to them and reached into his jacket pocket and handed them all switchblades. "Kept them in my locker for emergency’s."
They all thanked him and he went back inside the office and locked the doors. Steven went one way to find Dillon and Jeff and Allison went another to find Savanna.

Inside the office, Mr. Johnson was holding his nose closed so the blood wouldn’t spray everywhere, and he sat down in a chair. "I'm not letting them back in here and chancing the freak costume guy getting in either! I warned them!"
"If they're being chased by the Grim Reaper," Mr. Fink said. "I'm going to let them in."
Mr. Johnson reached over into his desk drawer and took out a gun. He cocked it and pointed it at the teacher. "No you're not. I can do what I want. I'm the principal. I'm tired of being nice, and getting disrespected for it! You guys shove a needle into my ass and screw up my face all within two days! I'm sick of it!"
"Roy," Ms. Winegrad said. "You're a good man. Don't throw your life away over something so pathetic."
"Shut up!" He pointed the gun at her. "And fix my nose."
This was crazy! Did he think she was magical. "How?"
"Go to the nurses office and get some supplies."
    "But I may not return."
"Go through the air ducts. You can go undetected through there."
Ms. Winegrad moved a small desk that was against the wall, over to the middle of the room and, with help from Mr. Fink and Mrs. Wolfington, she stepped on a desk and reached up and removed a ceiling tile, shoving it over on top of another one.
As she was doing this, she was thinking about Mr. Johnson. She had heard about situations like this from Reader’s Digest and Discovery Channel. A bunch of people, isolated from society for a certain length of time, might start turning on each other and going crazy. But it has only been a few hours. She thought that took many days. Maybe even months like in that Stephen King book, The Shining.
She reached her arms up, pulled her body up into the ceiling, and replaced the tile back. She then started crawling, almost immediately coming across the metal air ducts.

"I'm starving!" Mr. Johnson complained. "I need someone to get food.” He pointed the gun at Jamie.
"No!” She cried out. “Edward, don't let him make me go!"
"Edward's smart enough to know to stay out of this."
This guy really was going crazy! "No." Edward stepped forward. "If you send her. Then you send me."
"Hey!" Leticia shouted, walking up to him. "I thought we had something going on?"
"Leticia," Edward said, turning around to face her and placing his hands on her shoulders. "We were drunk."
"Just get going!" Mr. Johnson shouted, getting impatient.
Brad gave a switchblade to both Edward and Jamie. "Take care, man." Brad said, patting them on the back. Edward and Jamie turned, and though having to force themselves, walked out of the office after unlocking the door .
Mr. Johnson went up and locked the door behind them.
Candice spoke up. "Why don't you go out there and hunt this guy down with that gun?" She asked Mr. Johnson. "Instead of sending everyone else to do everything."
"Shut up before I throw you out of here." Mr. Johnson whirled on her.
Candice made a face, sticking out her tongue, and went to go sit with Leticia. This was crazy. There was a maniac outside the office, and now Mr. Johnson had lost it and so they were pretty much trapped.
There was one other thought that scared her. Even if they could get out, would Mr. Johnson let them leave and allow them to tell the cops about him? No. Not when he could kill them and blame that Grim Reaper guy. It was then that she realized that even if they survived Grim Reaper, Mr. Johnson wouldn’t let them out alive.

Ms. Winegrad was quietly crawling through the ducts on her hands and knees because there wasn’t enough height to stand up.
As she passed over a grate, she looked down and saw Grim Reaper walk by below her! She let out a gasp and quickly covered her mouth, but it was too late. Grim Reaper must have heard her because he backed up and looked up at the grate.
He tilted his head and Ms. Winegrad quickly started crawling again. A second later, the scythe blade ripped through the duct, right behind her!

On the floor, Grim Reaper was following the noise that the teacher made as she crawled. It was like a tiger hunting a field mouse.

Ms. Winegrad screamed when the blade rammed up right in front of her face, braking through the metal floor of the air duct.
The blade went down again and that's when she started moving again, trying her luck to escape. A second later, it rammed up right through her leg! She let out a deadly scream as she felt the pain shoot through her body and as soon as the blade went back down, she quickly covered her leg with her hand. Blood started leaking out into the duct, staining her hand and pants.
She dragged her leg as she continued to crawl, still trying to get away. She was going to try her best to survive this day.

Below, Grim Reaper walked away, thinking he killed the teacher up in the air duct.
Jeff and Allison were walking up one of the staircases, walking next to each other as they accented the stairs.
"Did you really mean what you said back there?" Allison asked. "About liking me?"
"Yes." Jeff answered. He was feeling really scared inside, but his voice sounded firm.
"Does that mean we're like going out or something?"
"Do you want it to mean that?" Jeff suddenly felt a spark of hope inside, something he hadn’t felt for some time. He’s always figured that if you never give your hopes up, you’re never disappointed when things turn out differently.
    "Yes." Allison smiled.
"Me too." Jeff turned his head to look at her and smiled too. They got to the top and walked down a hall, their hands finding each others, like any other people who has ever gone out. They weren’t going to let this situation ruin that.

Ms. Winegrad continued crawling through the ducts, the pain in her leg getting worse, making her feel like giving up and crawling into a ball and going to sleep.
She looked down through a grate and saw that she was right above the Nurse's office! Suddenly, the tile began to crack and then, with a loud crack!, it broke, sending Mrs. Winegrad to the floor far below.
As she went down, she hit her head off a table, knocking her out, doing what she had wanted to do moments before: Sleep.

In a house not that far from the school, Mike sat watching TV, while eating. He was able to watch T.V., because only the school lost power, due to Grim Reaper cutting the wires.
A minute later, his mother came downstairs with a scowl. "You know that there's no watching TV on school days!"
"But School was cancelled! I didn't get any homework." Mike argued, not even turning around to acknowledge his mother.
"You can always study. And you also have to clean your room."
"I don't have anything to study and I'm not going to clean my room right now."
"Oh yes you are! And the bathroom stinks!" Mike’s Mom added. Now that she thought about it, she could give her son a whole list of chores that needed to be done. There was no way this was going to be a free day for him.
"Then why don't you clean it!" Mike shot back.
"I have to prepare for a meeting tomorrow."
"You always have a meeting. I hate you! I'd be happier living in the streets!" Mike yelled.
"You better not run off like you did at the store."
"Screw you! I'm out of here." Mike got up and ran. He ran out of the living room and down the hall. He took his jacket off the wall as he ripped open the door and ran out into the raging snowstorm, slamming the door behind him.

Outside, Mike ran through the blizzard. It was harder then he thought it would be, having to go against the wind, and felt like the wind was going to pick him off his feet at any second and blow him away.
He went into the car, which was half buried under snow. Once inside, he rubbed his hands together, trying to warm up. As he did he looked over and saw his mom’s purse in the passenger seat.
He reached over and took it, then opened up the door to the car and yet again, went out into the blizzard.

In the office of Great Mills High School, Mr. Fink was thinking of a plan to get out of the school.
"We could ring the bell. They don't need electricity to ring. Anyone within a quarter of a mile of the school well be able to hear them as long as the howling wind doesn’t block out the sound. They'll know that there’s people's stuck in the school and will send for help."
"Go ahead and try it." Mr. Johnson said. Then he pointed the gun at him. "But don't do anything funny."
Mr. Fink walked over to a wall and opened a small door. Inside was a red button which he pressed, holding his thumb down, ringing the bell. He started doing that repeatedly.
The other people’s faces in the room brightened, hoping that the plan would work. All except for Candice, who was still doubtful that Mr. Johnson would even let them live.

Outside the school, the blizzard looked to have gotten worse. The entire area was vacant and empty, and the only sound was that of the bell, which is getting softer and quieter due to the loud winds, getting more violent.

(From now on, I will only post more chapters if people comment on them. there's no point in me wasting my time writing and posting them if no one's going to read them.)
