    School Day Chapter 7

    ~ CHAPTER 7 ~

    The Office

Jeff, Allison, Savanna, and Candice had found the stairs a couple seconds earlier, and were now in one of the hallways on the first floor. Jeff had found the stairs, when he was pushing along a wall, and suddenly he fell forward and hit his chin off a step. He called out that he found them and the others rushed over and they all went up.
They noticed that the lights were out as they walked to their classroom. Their only source of light was from the snow covered windows casting a whitish glow, and they could easily hear the wind howl outside, making the school feel a bit creepy.
They ran down the hall, heading for their classroom, passing by others, not even noticing that no one was in them. When they got to their room, they tried opening the door, but it was locked.
Savanna knocked on it and they waited a minute, but no one came to let them in. They all looked up and in through the window and saw that their classroom, like the rest of the school, was plunged in darkness, and was completely empty.
"They must have been dismissed early." Savanna said. “There is a storm outside.”
"Then lets get the hell out of here too!" Candice urged. She wanted to leave before the storm got any worse. It was already going to be hard enough to get home through the snow as it was now, but in about half an hour, who knew. It would probably get even worse.
They all turned around and headed for the main hallway that'll bring them to the main doors. They didn’t run there, but they did walk fast, their shoes echoing in the empty halls.
On their way, a girl walked out from around a corner in front of them. They all stopped as she looked at them. Well, more like look around them, seeing if a certain person was there.
"Do any of you know Edward Washington?" The girl asked.
"He's my best friend." Jeff answered. Wait a minute, was this that girl that saved him yesterday? It was hard to tell. It was a little dark and Jeff still had a pretty bad hangover and headache.
"I'm Jamie. You must be Jeff. Do you know where he is?"
Jeff was hesitant to tell at first. Would she think he was crazy? Oh well, he had to try. "He's in the basement. But don't go down there. There's some guy dressed up as the Grim Reaper trapped down there."
"Ooooookaaaay.” Jamie said slowly. Was this guy mental? Or was he just trying to scare her for fun? Oh well. She was going down anyway. She had these strange fuzzy feelings for Edward, that even if it was -50 degrees out, if she thought about him, it was enough to warm her up. She knew what these feelings were and she welcomed them openly.
“I'll take my chances.” she continued. “I love Edward." So Jamie went off one way, leaving the others, while Jeff, Savanna, Allison, and Candice went another.

Jeff and the gang got to the main doors and tried to open them, but they wouldn't budge. Jeff pulled harder then ever, and then pushed, then he tried kicking it with so much force, he thought he broke his foot, but the pain would only last for a couple of minutes.
"They're locked or something!" Jeff said loudly. "Crap!"
"They work on electricity." Candice informed him. "If the power's out, the doors won't open."
"How about a window?" Savanna suggested.
"Bullet proof glass." Jeff sighed, turning away. He didn’t want to be stuck in the school. He hated school more then anything, and now he was stuck in it during a snowstorm. What luck!
"Let me try. I think I can get a window open." Candice walked over across the hall and there was a glass case on the wall with a painted red fire axe on the other side of the glass.
Candice made a fist and flung it forward so hard, the glass shattered, amazingly not cutting her hand. It just all fell to the floor and shattered some more.
Candice wiped off some glass that had fallen onto the axe and grabbed it, taking it out of it’s case. She walked back over to the main doors and eyed the one of the two windows in the door.
She reared back with the ax, over her head, and as everyone backed up, she swung it down harder then she ever swung anything, and it connected with the window, bouncing off as if it was a plastic axe. She tried again and again, but still, it just kept bouncing off.
"Lets get Edward and Leticia and tell them what's going on." Jeff said. “They have a right to know that we’re stuck in the school and they’d be stupid not to be concerned.
"Let's see if there's any teachers left first." Allison suggested. “If there are, they might know of another way out of here.”
"Good idea." Jeff agreed. "We'll stop in at the office on our way to the basement. If there’s any teachers, they’d probably be either there or in the Teacher’s Lounge."
They turned and walked down a bunch of halls, turning corners, going straight, then turning more corners. After about five minutes, they reached the office. They walked in and saw the group of teachers sitting around by the main desk.
The teachers looked over as the four students walked into the office, and like the students, felt relieved.

Jamie slowly walked down the stairs to the basement. Damn, it's dark down here. She thought. Then more loudly, she called out, "Edward, are you down here? Remember our plans? If we don’t hurry, we won’t be able to get home. The storm’s pretty bad out there and the power’s out."
As Jamie got to the bottom of the stairs, she saw a hook on the wall and there was a flashlight on the hook. She took it off and pressed the switch up, causing a beam of light to shoot out from the flashlight. Jamie shined it around as she walked around the basement.
Where could he be? Hadn’t Jeff said he was in the basement? Wasn’t this the basement?
After about a minute, the beam fell upon two people, but it passed right over them, but then Jamie realized that there was someone there, so she shone the beam back and it fell upon Edward and Leticia having sex in the corner, their clothes in a pile beside them
Jamie flushed with anger. How could he do this? She loved him more then anything and he went and did this the first minute she wasn’t around? He was just like Neil. No worse then Neil!
"Oh sorry if I interrupted something! I'll leave you two alone now! And Edward, Screw you! I thought you cared about me!" She yelled louder then ever before.
"Jamie..." Edward pleaded as he climbed off of the smiling Leticia, and tried to explain as they got dressed. "It's not what it looks like. I'm a little drunk, alright." He struggled to get his shirt on, and after a few seconds, he finally got it on. Then he reached down and zipped up his pants.
"Save it!" Jamie screamed at him. “You’re not that drunk if you have any thoughts about this at all!” Leticia and Edward went over to Jamie together, and were about to say something, when she started to pull away. She didn’t get far though, because a tile grate in the roof fell down with a loud crash and dust flew up in the air.
Jamie turned and all three peered into the dust cloud. When it started to fade, a figure walked out and it was Grim Reaper!
They all screamed and turned and ran together, the scene a moment earlier temporarily out of their minds, their survival a bit more important. As they ran, Jamie accidentally dropped her flashlight, the beam going out once it hit the floor.
Grim Reaper held his scythe sideways in both hands, blade pointed outwards as he walked fast after them, but not running.
He didn’t need to run. He would catch them all sooner or later.

Edward, Leticia, and Jamie emerged from the staircase, all at once, onto the first floor, out of breath, but barely slowing down. All three were more terrified then they ever had been before as they ran down the halls and after a few minutes of running, got to the main doors. Like all the others, they tried opening the doors, and like al the others, they too, no success.
    "Damn!" Edward shouted.
"It's coming back!" Leticia screamed and pointed. They all turned and saw Grim Reaper walking fast down the hall, coming towards them out of the darkness of the hall.
"To the office!" Edward suggested. "There might be someone there that can help!" They rushed off down a side hall, Grim Reaper following behind at a quick walk, but not really rushing. He had all the time in the world. The power hadn’t just gone out, he cut it. That meant it wasn’t coming back on. He had some time.

They ran through a couple of halls and managed to get to the office. They rushed in and Edward slammed closed the door and reached up and turned the lock, locking it with a click.
"Is anyone here?" Edward called out as he turned around and Jamie and Leticia looked around the empty office.
Jeff, Savanna, Allison, Candice, and the teachers walked out from the back room. Jeff’s face lit up when he saw his friend and Allison and Candice were also happy to see theirs.
"Boy," Edward said, still catching his breath. "Am I glad to see you Jeff! I'm sorry I didn't believe you. That Reaper thing is real! He just chased us all the way here." Edward felt more sorry then he could express in words. He was really wishing he had listened to Jeff earlier instead of blowing him off and staying down and getting even more drunk, but like Jeff, when he was attacked by Grim Reaper, he suddenly sobered up.
"It's ok, man." Jeff said. "You were still drunk. We just need to find a way out of this school."
"We need to find a way out of this office first!" Edward exclaimed.
"What do you mean?" Mr. Fink asked. What was this kid on? Of course they could get out of the office. They just had to unlock and open the doors.
"The Grim Reaper followed us from the basement."
"What are you talking about?" Mr. Fink asked. "What Grim Reaper?" He had heard one of the students say that this kid used to be drunk. Maybe he still was. Edward pointed and Mr. Fink looked over with the others and saw Grim Reaper scrapping the glass window next to the door, with his scythe, making an annoying screeching noise.
"That Grim Reaper." Edward answered, looking back at Mr. Fink. The teachers looked confused, but also a bit scared. Jeff saw this look.
"We better explain." Jeff said. Truth be told, he had no idea where to start first, or how much to tell them about that morning.

Brad and Jesus were walking down a dark, empty hall alone. The only light was coming from some of the windows, which was getting darker and darker slowly, as the storm got worse, and the sun got blotted out more and more.
    "Anybody?" Brad shouted out.
"I don't think there's anyone left." Jesus announced. Then they heard footsteps and they rushed around a corner to another hall, and almost ran right into someone!
They looked up as the person they ran into looked down and they saw that they had almost walked right into Mr. Johnson, their principal!
"Kids!" he exclaimed with a smile.
"We're glad to see you." Jesus said. Maybe this guy knew a way out of the school. Jesus hoped he did.
"Go to the roof." Mr. Johnson ordered. "You can use the fire escape and get down."
Thank God. Jesus thought. He was about to turn to run there, when a voice rang out from thin air.
"No use trying." Then Steven walked out towards them from around a corner. "The blizzard's too strong. And it's hailing really bad."
"Where's that other young boy you were with?"
"Dillon? I lost him awhile back." Steven and Dillon were running off down the halls, and Dillon suggested to go check the cafeteria, but Steven wanted to check the Teacher’s Lounge, so they split up and decided that they would both meet at the office when they were done, bringing anyone they found with them.
"Well I was on my way to the office." Mr. Johnson informed them. "Lets all go together." They all turned and started walking down the hall, towards the office. As they walked, Mr. Johnson was surprised by how many people were still in the school. Little did he know, there were even more in the office.

In the office, everyone who was there, was sitting around in chairs, bored. Jamie was still mad at Edward and Edward knew that as he tried to apologize to her.
"I can't believe you Edward! You say you care, and then you go ahead and cheat on me!"
    "I was drunk!"
"That doesn't matter! You shouldn’t have been skipping and getting drunk in the first place!"
"I give up." Edward threw up his hands, turned and walked over to Jeff. He wasn’t in the mood for arguing with Jamie. He had a headache, he couldn’t put up with her complaining, and most of all, he knew she was right.
"Jeff, I'm sorry." He apologized as he approached Jeff’s seat.
"What for?" Jeff asked turning his head to look at Edward.
"If I didn't suggest we skip school, we would have been home by now. Not stuck in the school with a lunatic trying to kill us." Edward felt really bad about all that, and if he could find some way to end it, he would.
"It wasn't your fault." Jeff tried to make him feel better. He didn’t want Edward depressed. Especially during this crisis.
    "Yes it was!" Edward argued.
Jeff sighed. "I know, I just didn't want you to feel bad!" Edward looked at him and Jeff tried to put on a smile.

Ryan walked down an empty and dark hall. Maybe I took a wrong turn someplace. He thought as he turned a corner and saw a hallway lined with lockers on both sides. He started walking down the hall, walking fast.
Half way down the hall, he heard another set of footsteps behind him and he whirled around, seeing Grim Reaper walking towards him.
“What the hell?” He then saw the shinny scythe in his grasp, and Ryan turned and ran down the hall, leaving it, but running too fast, not being able to stop.
He hit the wall across from him and spun all the way around, falling to the floor, hitting his chin off of the floor, pain flowing through his body.
He looked up as he slowly stood, rubbing his head. He saw that Grim Reaper was gone, but every single locker in the hall was opened. How had he done that so fast? The only way Ryan could think of was if Grim Reaper had done it as he walked.
He looked down the other hall, away from the locker hall, seeing a giant wooden wall. That’s when he remembered that they had put that up, because they were going to add another couple of rooms onto the school.
Great. The only way was back down the locker hall, with every single locker door opened, on both sides. Grim Reaper could be hiding behind anyone, and jump out at him at any minute.
Ryan took a deep breath and slowly started walking back down the hall, peering around the corner of each door before he walked around it.
After about ten minutes, he finally got halfway down the hall, and still walking slowly, peering around each door first.
As he walked, out of the darkness from one of the lockers behind him, Grim Reaper silently stepped out. Ryan had only quickly looked in one locker, and it was too dark inside to really see, so he hadn’t seen Grim Reaper.
As he walked down the hall, Grim Reaper followed Ryan, gaining on distance, and just as quiet as ever.
Then, once Grim Reaper had caught up, he raised one hand and slammed a locker door shut, causing Ryan to spin around, his eyes going wide.
    “Please, no.” He pleaded.
Grim Reaper, with no mercy, raised the scythe up and swung it down through Ryan, from his head down, causing his body to peel apart and blood to flow out, spilling onto the floor.

Back in the office, Allison, Savanna, Candice, and Leticia were talking about their situation.
Savanna was freaking out. Losing it. "We're all going to die! We're not going to make it!" She screamed over and over.
"Savanna!" Allison yelled, shaking her sister. "We're going to make it. All right? We'll all get out of this alive!" She hoped her sister wouldn’t loose it. People do stupid things when they loose it. She admitted, out of the people she knew, it was most likely that Savanna would get cabin fever first, but she didn’t even think her sister would get it after only being locked in the school for about an hour.
"Is he still there?" Candice asked, talking about Grim Reaper. They all looked over at the locked doors and through the windows, and saw that Grim Reaper was gone! There was no one in the hall that they could see.
"Hey guys!" Candice yelled at everyone in the office. "The costume guy is gone!" the other kids and teachers looked over to see for themselves, and they saw that Candice was right. Grim Reaper was indeed no longer there.
Mr. Fink stood up from his seat. "Stay here kids, I'll check it out." He slowly walked over to the doors and looked through the glass. He looked one way, and then the other. Nothing but the empty dark halls.
He unlocked the doors and opened them, still being cautious. He stepped out into the hall he had only looked at up until then, and looked in all directions.
Seeing no one, he slowly walked down the main hallway. He had moved about half way down the hall, when he heard a crashing sound and whipped around. No one was there. “Hello?” he called out, his heart thumping hard in his chest. Was the person just waiting in the dark until someone came out into the halls and would jump out and kill him?
"My chair slipped!" He heard Jeff's voice shout out from inside the office. “I’m ok.” Mr. Fink sighed in relief. He swore, that kid was unnaturally accident prone. It was like part of his soul.
Right before Mr. Fink could turn back around to continue, he felt a hand clasped his shoulder. He screamed and jumped, feeling like his heart jumped out of his mouth as he was turned around.
He saw that he was looking at Mr. Johnson, Brad, Jesus, and Steven. He put is hand over his heart, breathing hard. He didn’t think he had ever been so scared as that moment and it turned out it was only his boss and a bunch of other students.
"A bit jumpy are we?" Mr. Johnson asked with a smile.
Mr. Fink commanded, "Get these kids inside the office, now!" There was more authority in his voice then Mr. Johnson ever had in his entire life.
"What's going on?" Jesus asked, sensing the panic.
"Just do it!" Mr. Fink shouted at them. He turned and stormed back down the hall, heading to the office.
Mr. Johnson, Jesus, Brad, and Steven all looked at each other, wondering what was going on. After a minute they rushed after him, trying to catch up.
As they walked, Mr. Fink started explaining. "There's a person dressed as the Grim Reaper in the school, terrorizing us. He hasn’t killed anybody, but he is possessing a weapon, a scythe to be exact, so we have no idea if he means to hurt us or if it’s some kind of sick joke."
"There's still another kid in the school!" Steven said, starting to worry about his friend. "My friend, Dillon."
"We'll send out a search party later, if he doesn't show up." Mr. Fink said. As they walked back to the office, Mr. Fink thought of how that student must be feeling. His friend was lost someplace inside this big school, with a maniac on the loose.
They finally reached the office and once they got inside, Mr. Fink closed and locked the doors again, making sure Grim Reaper couldn’t get in.
Once in, Steven started telling the other teachers that Dillon was out there, and he was trying to convince them to go out and search, but they all agreed that they should wait.

Jamie walked over to Jeff and Edward, who were talking. They stopped talking when Jeff glanced over and saw Jamie standing there. Edward noticed his gaze and looked over as well, seeing Jamie there.
"Edward," Jamie said. "I haven’t forgiven you yet, but we should at least get along until this is over. Then we can try and work it out."
"You know," Jeff spoke up, trying to change the topic. "I think its Dillon."
"Why?" Edward asked, turning to him, suddenly forgetting about Jamie.
"He's been missing. I heard Steven tell the teachers."
"No." Jamie said, shaking her head. "I don't know who Dillon is, but I think it's Neil."
"Neil?" Edward asked, turning back to face her. "He's really that crazy?"
"He's been missing since yesterday. He threatened the class and teacher and then ran off."
Edward thought about this. He had heard that Neil sometimes really losses it. Maybe this time he went overboard. It certainly was a possibility.

Savanna stood up from her spot and walked over to the main desk, where all the teachers had congregated.
"Yes Savanna?" Mrs. Furankee asked as she saw her approach.
"I have to use the bathroom."
"Not while there's that crazy out there!" Mrs. Wolfington exclaimed, fearful.
"As long as one of the teachers go with her, It should be ok." Mr. Johnson voiced. He looked over at Mrs. Furankee. "You can go with her. While you guys are out, you can also go to the cafeteria and bring back some food. I’m starting to get hungry and I know other people are to."
Mrs. Furankee opened up a desk drawer and took out a couple flashlights handed one over to Savanna. Her and Savanna went over to the doors, unlocked them, and opened them.
"Lock these doors behind us." Mrs. Furankee ordered. Once they left, Allison rushed up and quickly locked the doors.
“Where are they going?” She asked as she turned and walked back.
“Savanna needed to go to the washroom and they also went to get some food for us to eat while we’re stuck in here.” Mr. Johnson explained.
“What if that person finds them?”
Mr. Johnson sighed. “Then they better be able to run fast.”
Allison looked back at the locked door, concern on her face.
Mr. Johnson turned to the other teachers. “Has anyone tried raising Mrs. Stuart?”
“Yeah.” Mr. Fink answered. “She never answered.”
“Maybe her walkie-talkie was off at the time. Now she might be trying to reach us. Try to get her again.”
Mr. Fink took the walkie-talkie and turned it on. “Mrs. Stuart? Hello?” Just like last time, he was only answered by the static.
