    ~ CHAPTER 13 ~

    The Unmasking Of A Criminal

Jesus was walking down a hall with the bow in his hands. The arrow stretched back, ready to fire if he was attacked. He suddenly heard two people approaching from close by.
He turned around and in the dark he saw two figures coming towards him. He raised the bow and aimed at the figures.
"Who...who goes there?" Jesus asked shakily, raising the Bow. If he got no answer and they kept walking towards him, he was going to fire without hesitation.
"It's the police." Officer Abbot shouted. The two men in uniform came into full view and Jesus lowered the bow with a sigh.
    "Thank God!"
"Why are you armed with a bow? And why are you still in school?" Officer Abbot demanded.
"I didn't leave when I was suppose to and ended up getting trapped inside when the power went out. I met up with others locked in the school."
“That doesn't explain why you had a bow aimed at us!" Officer Adams said.
"Someone or something is in this school presenting it self as the Grim Reaper and its on a killing spree. Lots of people are already dead. We gotta find the others and get out of here before more people die."
"You lying to us, boy?" Officer Adams looked at him, as if he was crazy. "That’s an amazing story. Pretty unbelievable."
"I believe him." Officer Abbot spoke. “That explains the carcass smell, and there was a sighting of a costumed guy chasing kids in this school." Then he turned to Jesus. "Where are the others?"
"I don't know. I lost them awhile ago." Jesus looked at the floor, knowing he had disappointed the cops.
"Don't worry kid. We'll find them. What's your name?"
"Jesus Jackson." Jesus looked back up.
"Don't worry Jesus. Stick with us and you'll be safe. We'll find the others and get the hell out of here." They continued on down the hall. As they did, Officer Adams took out his radio.
"Dispatch? We found one survivor. Repeat, we found one survivor. He claims there are more and we're doing rounds now to look for them. There is also a possible threat of a psychopath being in our presence. Over."
"Copy that. Try to bring the culprit in unharmed, but you know what to do if your life is on the line. Over."
Officer Adams put his radio away as they shined their lights around and walked down the hall.
"Abbot?" Officer Adams addressed. "I'm going to check down this hall." He pointed to a side hall with the beam of his light.
"Ok. Keep radio contact every five minutes."
Officer Adams ran off down one hall, while Officer Abbot and Jesus went straight. Jesus knew it was all over for Officer Adams. Anyone who was alone was always killed. Always.
At a set of bathrooms, everyone except Mr. Fink and Candice were waiting in the hall. Soon Mr. Fink exited a bathroom and Candice exited another, the flush of toilets being heard coming from the two bathrooms.
"Now has everyone gone?" Mr. Fink asked. They all nodded or said ‘yes’. "Alright, now let's think of a good place to hide that the Reaper won't think of looking for us."
They all stood around, thinking of a place to go. A couple minutes passed by in silence, as everyone was in deep thought.
Jeff wasn’t really thinking about a place to hide. He was only thinking about Allison and how worried he was about her.
    "Wait!" Dillon shouted.
    "What?" Mr. Fink asked.
"The blizzard's stopped right? We can just go to the roof now and climb down. Just like in the very beginning!"
Jamie spoke up. "No we can't, brainiac. Two problems with that. There'd be snow piled outside the door so we can't open it and the second problem is that Mike said the ladder was cut."
"So? We just all push really hard on the door to move the snow out of the way and we should be able to jump off the roof."
"Are you crazy?" Brad asked, shocked that he suggested they jump off the roof. “It’s four stories high!”
"No. He's right." Angela agreed. "The blizzard's been going on all day and night. The snow should be able to be high enough that it'll brake our fall if we jump."
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's get to the roof." Jeff said. "And along the way we can look for Allison. Two in one."
"Yeah!" Edward shouted. They all cheered as they headed in the right direction, their walk turning into a steady jog.

At Mike's house, Mike’s Mom was on the phone. As she talked, she looked over at a clock and it read ‘1:30 AM’.
"Listen Officer, he hasn't come home from school yet and it's 1:30 in the morning." She said, frustrated. Her eyes were heavy from tiredness and stress and worry.
"Well Mam, haven't you been watching the news? Did he attend Great Mills High School?"
    "Yes. Why?"
"There's a situation down there. A bunch of kids are stuck in the school. It's nothing to be alarmed about. We have men down there now as we speak, trying to help them get out. Just sit tight and we'll call you back if we hear anything new."
"Alright. Thank_you officer." Mike’s Mom felt a little relieved, knowing deep down inside that was where Mike had gone, and got stuck inside.
"No problem Mam." The cop replied politely. They hung up and Mike’s mom sat around, waiting for the phone to ring with more news, probably bad judging by everything else that has happened.

At Edward's house around the same time, Edward's Mom was running out to her car. I've gotta go to the school! Be there for when they get my son out!
She had been watching T.V., while waiting up for Edward to return home, when she saw the News Bulletin on what was happening at Great Mills High School, so she had got her jacket and car keys and was now rushing out the door.
She got inside her car, started it up, and soon drove away, heading for the school.

Outside the school, many of the missing student's parents were either driving or walking up to the police tape, not being allowed to cross.
Connie (with her head bandaged) was the first to complain. When she had awoke, Martin was asleep on the couch, but the News was on and she heard about the school. She quickly bandaged her head and left a note to Martin, explaining what was going on.
"We should be allowed to cross! Our children are in there!" She stated as police held out their outstretched palms, not allowing anyone to cross.
"Sorry Miss." Megan said. "There'd be nothing that you'd be able to do anyway. Just stay on that side of the tape, thank_you."
"Are they ok?" Edward's mom asked, walking up. Her car was parked across the street.
"As far as we know of yes." Megan replied. “Everything’s under control.” Even though she knew that was a lie, she tried her best to convince these angry parents that it was the truth.

Officer Adams shined his light around the hall as he walked down it. He heard the sound of footsteps behind him, and he suddenly whipped around, shining the light behind him.
When he turned around, nothing was there except for a slight shimmer that was gone in a second. Must have just been my imagination.
He turned back around and walked down some more halls and got to a staircase. He walked down the staircase, and he instantly heard a steady clunk, clunk, clunk, of a walking stick or something coming from behind.
He spun around and this time, he saw Grim Reaper with his scythe, using it as a walking stick!

Officer Abbot and Jesus were walking down a dark, empty hall. Officer Abbot took out his walkie-talkie.
"Adams, you see anything unusual yet? Over." No answer. Just static. As Jesus heard the static, he knew what had happened and realized it was pointless to pursue, even though he knew the police officer would want to.
"Adams, Come in. Over." More static. "Adams, come in now!" Still no answer. "Crap!"
Officer Abbot took out his gun. "Come on. We're going to go find Officer Adams."
They began to rush down the halls, but soon enough, Officer Adams ran around from a side hall, in front of them.
"I lost it, thank god!" He shouted. His eyes were wide with fear and he was sweating more then his partner had ever seen him.
"What happened? Why didn't you answer me?" Officer Abbot asked.
"Sorry. I must have turned off my radio last time I used it."
"What happened?" Asked Jesus, knowing the answer.
"I saw him! The culprit! I emptied my gun into him and he just kept coming!" Just then, Jeff and the gang ran around a corner and almost into the three of them.
"Jesus!" Brad shouted, thrilled that his friend was still alive.
"We were just on our way to the roof." Edward advised them.
" And looking for Allison." Jeff added.
"We came in from the roof. Is there anyone else still alive?” Officer Abbot asked.
Jeff answered. "My girlfriend, Allison is missing, but besides from her, everyone else that isn't here is dead."
"Can she be the masked killer?" Officer Adams asked.
"No!” Jeff shouted, shocked that they would even suggest that. The two officers didn’t have the knowledge that the rest of them had. They hadn’t been stuck in the school since the day before. Jeff continued on, knowing this was going to sound strange. “The Reaper isn't a person. It's the real deal."
"Yeah right." Officer Abbot started to chuckle. “And I’m an Angel sent by God.” He laughed harder, but Officer Adams stayed serious, knowing something strange was up with his attacker.
"Well I did empty a gun into him." Officer Adams admitted. “And he just kept coming. He didn’t even slow down.”
"He could have been wearing a bullet proof vest." Officer Abbot suggested. Just then, as if on cue, Grim Reaper walked around the corner and drew his scythe.
The two cops took out their guns and Officer Adams re_loaded his quickly. They started firing, non_stop, and everyone saw the bullets rip through the costume.
"The head! Go for the head!" Angela and Jeff kept shouting.
Officer Abbot lowered his gun and aimed for the knee. He fired, shooting Grim Reaper in the kneecap. The killer fell to the floor, dropping its scythe and clutching it's knee as crimson blood flowed onto the floor.
Officer Adams threw down his now empty gun, which still had the barrel smoking, as he walked over to the killer.
He reached down with a trembling hand, frightened at what he would see underneath. He grabbed the hood and pulled back, and then jumped back. Everyone gasped at who’s face was underneath.
The hood had been pulled back to reveal Mr. Johnson, their Principal! Every gasped as the principal sneered up at them.
"How'd you do that disappearing trick?" Brad asked. "That was cool." The others all glared at him. "What?"
Mr. Johnson started explaining though he was in pain. He winced as he talked, and coughed a couple of times. "That wasn't me. That was the real thing."
"You have a lot of explaining to do." Mr. Fink said sternly.
"Yeah. We saw you dead!" Jamie added on.
"Fake. The scythe in my head, the blood, all of it was fake. Ever watch ‘The Making Of...’ on Star TV? Explains how they make movies and stuff. It wasn’t that hard." Mr. Johnson explained.
"Hold it. Back up." Edward interrupted. "You said that the real Grim Reaper is here to?"
"That's right. A few nights ago, Mr. Stuart and I were going through some of the boxes that was moved here when the school first opened. We found a Ouija board and after he left, I used it. I managed to contact the spirit of a person called Curtis Coates..."
"Yeah, we heard the story." Jeff said, coldly.
"Well the cursor that the spirit uses to communicate, the palentir, started at the number 9 on the board and started counting down."
Angela explained what was happening. She had used Ouija boards before and knew everything about them. "It was using the palentir to try to escape the board. That's how they do it. Either go through all the letters of the alphabet or count down from the top number."
"Yes. But at the time, I didn't know that. So once it escaped the board, it started talking to me. It was going to kill me unless I helped it. I had to get it a costume and scythe. I asked why and it said that it was going to pick up its old hobbies. It's place of haunting is now the school, so it can't go far outside of it, if at all, so I left and got the supplies and then it said that I had to help it or it would kill me, so I got myself a costume and scythe and helped it out."
"I don't believe it." Jamie whispered.
"Bull Crap." Officer Abbot said. "You're just insane. You're mind is gone. Here, let us take you to get some help." As Officer Abbot reached a hand down, Mr. Johnson sneered and very quickly, reached over and grabbed his scythe.
He started to swing up, when a shot went off and the teacher's head snapped back and he fell back to the floor, a hole in the front of his head.
The others turned and Dillon had Mr. Adam's fallen gun. "Had one bullet left." He explained.
He passed it back to Officer Adams, who bent down and lifted up Mr. Johnson's shirt to reveal a bulletproof vest.
"It's over. We killed him." Officer Abbot said, standing up, almost at a disbelieve. It was never that easy. There was always a catch.
Angela yelled, "No! The real one is still here. We have to find that Ouija board and destroy it. That’s the only way to get rid of him."
"There is no real Grim Reaper. This man was sick." Officer Abbot argued.
"Officer, you haven't been here. You never saw some guy just disappear and re_appear someplace else." Mr. Fink said.
Officer Abbot stood in front of his partner, facing him, and was going to say something when he turned to face Mr. Fink.
"A trick of the light. I assure you, the horror's over." He smiled and turned back around to face his partner, but that smile soon ended when a scythe blade dug into Officer Adams's back and out his chest and into Officer Abbot's chest and out his back, splattering blood everywhere, and all over Mr. Fink.
The blade retracted and the two dead bodies fell to the floor and everyone screamed.
Grim Reaper stood there, looking at them.
Jeff ran over to Officer Abbot’s body, picked up a nightstick, and jumped back, just in time to dodge a downward blow of the scythe. Jeff ran towards Grim Reaper and started hitting him with the nightstick.
"Where's Allison? What'd you do with her?" He shouted over and over as he swung the nightstick down, up, then down again. The Reaper soon shimmered and disappeared. Jeff stopped and walked back to the others.
"So how do we destroy the board?" Mr. Fink asked. "Set it on fire?"
"No!" Jamie explained. "That’d make the spirit stronger. The only way to properly get rid of it is to brake it into seven pieces, sprinkle holy water on the pieces, and bury them deep in the ground."
"We're out of luck for the holy water and burying parts." Dillon said.
"Are you sure there's no other way?" Mr. Fink asked.
"No. There's no other way." Angela sighed, knowing that there was nothing else she could do to help them with this.
"What about getting it back into the board?" Jeff asked. “Isn’t that possible?”
"It never actually came from the board. The board was just a gateway." Angela explained.
"But I read someplace awhile ago that you could trap spirits in the Ouija boards. I think it was some kind of website on pagens and Ouija boards and things like that."
"I guess it can be done.” Angela admitted. “The only way I can think of, though, is to ask other spirits for help. And you have to use the board for that."
"Then lets get going. The sooner we get rid of this thing, the sooner we can find Allison and leave."
So the group consisting of Jeff, Edward, Angela, Jamie, Dillon, Brad, Jesus, Candice, and Mr. Fink walked down the hall, heading to the first floor, and then the basement to find the Ouija board.
Jeff suddenly felt very hopeful that they were actually going to have a chance to leave, and get rid of Grim Reaper, without having to blow up the school and sacrifice someone. With any luck, no one else was going to be killed, and the horror was already practically over. He was wrong. Dead wrong.

Outside, a helicopter flew overtop of the school trying to let a swat team off on the roof. The two officers hadn’t made radio contact for a while, and when they were trying to reach the officers, there was no answer, so they got a swat team.
Suddenly strong winds started up again and as the blizzard came back, stronger then ever, as if some greater power was controlling the storm, trying to either keep the people locked in, the others locked out, or both.
As the winds built up, the helicopter started swinging back and forth, and they had to try to land on the ground before something happened. It was already hard enough to see out the windows, due to the snow that was blowing through the air. It was so strange how the snowstorm had just suddenly come back, worse then before.
The helicopter lost control on the way down and started spinning, but didn’t get the chance to spin all the way around, because a gust of wind blew it sideways as it was turning, and it crashed right into the side of the school, causing a massive explosion.
People from the street watched in horror as some headed for their vehicles because the wind and snow was getting too strong. The people without cars got covered in snow and before long, they were even picked up off their feet by the harsh winds and snow, and blown away, with screams being carried through the air.
The snow continued to fall and the winds stayed strong.
