    ~ CHAPTER 11 ~

    Answers And Explanations

In the library, they were discussing Jeff's plan. It was a good plan, and Mrs. Wolfington
was surprised how easily a student had come up with it.
"I like it." Mr. Fink stated.
"Then let's roll." Jeff suggested, standing up, Allison standing up next to him. "We don't
    have much time to waste."
"What about the others?" Mrs. Wolfington asked. "We can't just leave them out there."
"Yeah." Mr. Fink agreed. "I don't want to leave anyone behind."
"Lets just presume everyone is dead." Angela suggested.
"No!" Edward cried. "Jamie is still alive. I can feel it." By now, the rest were all standing
    as well.
"How are we gonna do this?" Angela argued. "Search this pitch black school for
survivors? If you haven't noticed, it's getting dark outside now too, so our light from the windows
    will no longer help us."
"We gotta think of something." Jeff said. He thought for a moment and then snapped his
fingers. "I got it. How about we just go up there now, just us. Get out of this school, and send
    help for the others?"
"No." Edward disagreed. "It'll be too late by then."
Jeff looked next to him and saw that Allison and Angela were suddenly missing! They all
looked over further and saw them taking books off one of the shelves.
"What are you guys doing?" Mrs. Wolfington asked.
"Looking for information on the Grim Reaper. Maybe if we learn enough about him, we
    can stop him." Allison explained.
Jeff, Mr. Fink, and Edward walked over and started to help Allison and Angela at finding
books. They went through all the aisles, and it took them about half an hour to do so, but they
managed to find a bunch of books that might help, and brought them over to the table and started
    looking through them.
Candice and Mrs. Wolfington walked over to the top of the stairs and stayed to stand
guard, being able to see the front doors below.
After about 20 minutes of reading, Angela spoke up. "I've found something!" The others
leaned over to hear what she had to say. In her book there was a picture of a thing wearing a
black cloak and hood over his face, just like Grim Reaper. He had a scythe in one hand and an
hour glass on the floor. In his other hand was the bottom of a ghost, or soul, which he was
    dragging down to Hell.
"It says here, that in mythology, the Grim Reaper is said to come to collect souls. What
calls upon him to do so is when someone does something that would upset him." Angela
    explained.
    "Like what?" Jeff asked.
"Like build a school over a graveyard." Mr. Fink said quietly, more to himself then to the
others. He was just thinking out loud really.
They all looked at him. "What?" They all asked at once.
Mr. Fink sighed. It was time to tell the students the truth about the school. "They removed
the gravestones, but not the graves. It was the only spot that they could buy land to build the
    school on, so they did."
"But why would it make the Grim Reaper mad?" Edward asked. "Why would he care?"
"This wasn't an ordinary grave site. It was for criminals. Murderers. And I think I know
who this specific Grim Reaper is now that I think about it."
    "Continue." Allison said.
"When I was a kid, my grandfather used to tell me this story that his father told him. It
was a story that took place when the town of Heartfield was first founded and it was about a man
named Curtis Coates, who had supposedly believed in Hell, and Satan, and the Grim Reaper so
much, that he practically worshipped them. He made his own sickle or as it's called now, a scythe
and made his own costume. He went around, following people home, and killing them. But not
just anyone. He'd find out from town gossip, who did what, and if it could be known as a Sin,
then he figured it was time for them to join the army of Hell, so he went and killed them.
"In the end, he was caught though. One of his would-be-victims hid in the dark and
jumped him from behind and tackled him to the floor and knocked him out. The police were soon
there and the next day, Curtis was burned to death on a cross, being tried for witchcraft and
Satanism. He was the first person buried there."
"So that explains why he's angry." Jeff said.
"And thirsty for more blood." Angela added.
"How do we stop him?" Edward asked, turning to Mr. Fink.
Jeff answered for the teacher. "By giving him what he wants."
"So we have to destroy the school?"
"Looks that way." Mr. Fink said.
Jeff had always dreamed of the school being blown up, but now that it actually had to be
done, he was scared. They had to make up to the roof and off by the time the school exploded as
well. Great. A Die Hard situation. Just great.
"We can blow the furnace up. It's close enough to the school's oil tanks that it'll cause an
explosion big enough to destroy the school." Mrs. Wolfington announced from her spot at the
    stairs.
"We'll have to make sure everyone is out first." Allison said.
"Wait, wait. This makes no sense." Edward spoke up. "If the Reaper wanted to destroy
the school he could've already accomplished it, by blowing up the furnace himself. It would have
killed all of us, and since he's from Hell, it wouldn't harm him."
Jeff explained. "I don't think the Reaper's brain is as sophisticated as ours, so he
probably didn't think of that. He only has one thing on his mind: Kill. That's all he really knows.
    He's a mindless killing machine."
"It still doesn't make sense. Why is he doing this to the kids and staff? It was the school
    officials that decided. Not us."
"Well we can destroy the school anyway. Just to be safe." Mr. Fink said.
Allison spoke up. "One of us well have to stay behind to blow the furnace. Whoever that
is, will be killed in the blast for sure." They all looked at each other, wondering who was going to
do it, but was interrupted when Candice and Mrs. Wolfington ran over to them.
    "He's coming!" Candice shouted.
"I know a back way out of here." Mr. Fink announced as everyone at the table stood up
    quickly. "Follow me."
As they started running, Jeff tripped on the leg of the table and fell. After all day, what a
great time for his accident proneness to kick in. He always thought it was out to kill him. Well
now it might get it's chance.
He rolled and when he rolled onto his back, he saw Grim Reaper staring down at him,
    right next to him!
    "Ahhhhhhh!" Jeff screamed.
He rolled to the side, just as the blade smacked against the floor where he used to be. He
pushed up with his hands and jumped to his feet and ran into an aisle, ducking down. He then
went to a different aisle, then another.
He noticed that the others had already gone on without him. "Where'd they go?" He
    whispered to himself.
Then he saw Angela ducking down behind another aisle, just as he was. 'What are you
    doing here?' he mouthed.
'I came back to help you.' Angela mouthed back.
Jeff leaned his back against the aisle, still bending down. He saw Grim Reaper's shadow
getting closer and closer, so he moved to another aisle and leaned against it, meeting up with
Angela. A minute later, a bunch of books fell off the shelf right next to their heads as a hand
    punched through.
They screamed as they moved to another aisle and leaned against that one. Jeff looked one
way and saw a fire extinguisher on the wall right next to the stairs leading down. He looked the
other way and saw the shadow getting closer.
He pointed to the extinguisher and Angela nodded her head in approval.
Still bending down, Jeff went over to the extinguisher, grabbed it, and went back to his
spot. Once Grim Reaper came around the corner, Jeff stood up.
"Go back to hell, Curtis!" He shouted. Jeff then used all his strength and rammed the
extinguisher into Grim Reaper's head, snapping it back, causing the Grim Reaper to fall to the
floor. Jeff took this chance and as Angela jumped to her feet to join him, ran down the stairs and
out of the library, dropping the extinguisher on the way out.

Edward, Allison, Candice, Mrs. Wolfington, and Mr. Fink were walking down a hall.
"We lost Jeff!" Allison shouted. "We have to go back! I lost my sister. I'm not going to
    loose my boyfriend!"
"Don't be foolish. We'll hide in the attic until we can think of a way to blow the furnace.
Jeff will be all right; he's a smart boy." Mr. Fink said. "And he's not alone. That other student is
    with him."
Edward stopped and the others stopped as well as Edward spoke up. "Fink, she's not
being foolish. I understand her. The person I care the most about is also in this school somewhere
probably being terrorized if not already dead."
"I'm in charge and I say we're all going to the attic, there's no debating. We can't loose
more people. It'll just take longer to get everyone assembled on the roof."
"We don't have to listen to you." Edward yelled. "Allison, I say you look for Jeff while I
go look for Jamie. We're gonna be risking our lives but its worth it." Then he added, "I
think...These are the people we love. Anyway we have switchblades. They might be small, but
    they're something."
Allison and Edward walked away both in directions they thought their loved ones were,
which were away from each other, and away from the group.
"Take care, Ally." Candice whispered. Her and the teachers turned and quickly marched
down the hall, heading for the attic.

Jamie, Brad, and Jesus continued down the Math hallway looking into the door windows
to see if anyone was behind any, hoping to find someone else alive. Jamie was only looking for
    Edward though.
"I doubt Edward's even on this side of the school." Jesus said. "It's too quiet."
"Oh what?" Jamie asked, sarcastically. "You expect him to be banging on instruments,
singing out 'I'm here, I'm here.' to the music from Leaving on a Jet Plane?"
That shut Jesus up and they continued looking in silence. Suddenly something fell from the
ducts with a loud crash, also causing dust to fall.
It crashed to the floor right in front of the three kids. They screamed once the dust cleared
and they saw that it was Grim Reaper, holding its scythe!
    "Run!" Jesus shouted.
"No!" Jamie yelled, turning around. "I'm tired of running!" As the Reaper approached
Jamie fired the extinguisher at it, causing the same white foam that she had sprayed on her two
companions earlier, to envelope him. Jesus and Brad watched as Grim Reaper dropped his scythe
and fell to the floor motionless.
Jamie dropped the extinguisher and backed up to Brad and Jesus.
    "Now lets go." She said.
"He's down!" Brad shouted. "We have to finish him off!" Brad raced to the fire
extinguisher, picked it up and started beating Grim Reaper over the head with it, bringing it up
and down as fast, but as hard, as he could.
Brad continued beating it and suddenly, before their very eyes, and to their astonishment,
the body of Grim Reaper faded out, and disappeared.
"What the hell?" Brad backed away, dropping the extinguisher. "It...It disappeared." He
was completely shocked, just like Jamie and Jesus were.
"Damn." Jamie said. "Now we know it has the ability to disappear. Crap, we're totally
    screwed now!"
"Let's just go and get the others." Jesus suggested. They all started running down the
halls, hoping to find the others quick and tell them about Grim Reaper. Was he defeated
somehow, or was he up to something new?

Allison was running down a hall and glanced out a window, seeing nothing but blackness
from the night sky and the raging storm. Suddenly, she stopped when the air in front of her
    shimmered.
"Huh?" At first she thought she imagined it. After all, she had been through a lot and she
was starting to get tired. But then, suddenly, Grim Reaper appeared out of thin air, and raised his
    scythe up.
"Ahhhhhhh!" Allison screamed louder then she meant to. Grim Reaper slashed down the
scythe, just as Allison registered that she was going to die. She dodged to the side, just as the
    weapon came down.
The scythe ripped some skin off of Allison's leg, causing it to bleed, but for the most part,
it had missed. Allison stood up and started dragging her leg as she backed up, whimpering. Her
leg hurt more then anything she had felt in her life, and she knew that if she didn't get to a
hospital, she would probably die from loss of blood.
Grim Reaper followed her, raising his scythe again.
"Please, no!" Allison pleaded as tears came to her eyes.
Just as Grim Reaper was about to slash down again, something hit him from behind,
causing him to go sprawling to the floor.
Allison looked up and saw Dillon and Steven. They had snuck up behind Grim Reaper and
with their combined strength, pushed him to the floor.
"Come on." Dillon urged. "We'll help you walk." Allison put her arms around Dillon and
Steven who helped her walk down the hall. She hopped on her good leg as they walked fast,
leaving Grim Reaper's body behind, knowing all they did was just buy themselves some time, and
    nothing more.
"We have to find Jeff." Allison said.
    "We will." Dillon reassured her.
"We will?" Steven asked. They walked down the hall. What had happened? Was this the
same Dillon that was planning on killing Jeff and Edward? And now he was friends with them? He
must have missed something while hiding.

Once they had went around the corner, Grim Reaper's hand twitched and soon enough, he
was back on his feet, stalking again.

Edward walked down a hall and looked out a window, and like Allison, saw only snow
    and darkness.
He continued to walk down the hall until he got to the staircase. He went up all the stairs
until he got to the top floor and continued walking among the halls there. After a bunch of twists
and turns, he got to the swimming pool.
He was about to turn around and leave, when he suddenly remembered hearing about
Mike's access card which he had dropped someplace in that room.
Edward started looking around, and after a couple minutes of turning up with nothing, he
walked over to the pool and looked in, seeing Mike's mom's access card at the bottom of the pool.
He was right about ready to take his shirt off and dive in after it. It was their ticket out of
this whole mess! He soon became disappointed, however, once he saw that most of it had been
eaten away by the still bubbling acid.
Edward also saw the water softly bubble and knew that the card was destroyed. Their
hope was gone. Now he had to find Jamie and get to the attic.
He turned and walked out of the swimming pool area and back out into the halls.

Allison, Dillon, and Steven got to the gym doors and opened them. All three were
surprised to find them unlocked, but they didn't care why.
They went inside, but there were no windows so it was pitch black.
"Hang on guys." Steven ordered. There was the shuffle of feet, a couple bangs and curses,
and soon, a flashlight beam turned on, just as the gym doors clanged shut.
"The gym teacher always has one in the first aid kit on the wall." Steven explained. He
helped Dillon help Allison to walk.
They went down a very small hall, attached to the gym, which led to a change room and as
they walked into the change room, they sat Allison down on a bench in between two rows of
    lockers.
    "Thanks guys." Allison thanked them.
"What are you doing walking around alone?" Dillon asked.
"I was looking for Jeff, we got separated."
"You really like him, don't you?"
    "Yeah."
"Well I won't stand in your guys' way. You two deserve each other, and that's real. But I
still think you're the prettiest girl in the school."
"You can always say that again!" Allison joked and they both laughed. "But seriously, If
you and Steven would be nicer and change your ways, girls would like you more."
"We're working on it as you can see." Dillon smiled.
"Yeah," Steven agreed. "This crisis is also a learning experience for me and Dillon. It's
    making us better people."
"Lets just hope we live through this." Allison sighed. "Then you can continue working on
    those skills."

Jeff poked his head out from the darkness cover of a bathroom and once he saw that Grim
Reaper wasn't around, him and Angela slowly walked out and down the hall. They had hid in a
bathroom, so Grim Reaper wouldn't have found them.
Jeff had to find Allison before anything. He had tried for years to go out with her, and now
that he was, he wasn't going to leave her in the school.
"We have to find my girlfriend." Jeff explained.
"I understand." Angela said. "So let's hurry up and go find her."

Mr. Fink, Mrs. Wolfington, and Candice were walking down a hall, when Candice
    suddenly stopped.
"What's the problem?" Mr. Fink asked.
"Before we lock ourselves in the attic, we should get some food. We haven't eaten all day
and I'm starving." They all suddenly realized how hungry they really were. They must have been
too caught up in the events that were happening so they hadn't really noticed until Candice
    reminded them.
They walked down a hall until they got to a vending machine room and walked in. The
room was small, but had four different vending machines, two of which had drinks in them, which
    were probably warm by now.
Mr. Fink walked over to a machine and raised his foot and kicked the glass in. It shattered
over everything, but they still reached in and grabbed some food, brushing the glass away,
allowing it to tinkle to the floor.
Candice started to head out the door, her arms full of bags of chips and chocolate bars,
when she heard a noise from behind the machine. There was enough space behind each vending
machine to fit a person, and sure enough, Grim Reaper walked out from behind one of the
machines, scythe tied to his back.
Grim Reaper reached out with frightening speed, and grabbed Mrs. Wolfington by the
neck and backed up with her.
"Ahhhhh! Help me!" She yelled, trying to stop, but felt herself being forced backwards as
    Grim Reaper walked forward.
"Let her go!" Mr. Fink commanded. Grim Reaper didn't listen. Why would he? "What do
    you want with us?"
Grim Reaper twisted his hand and snapped Mrs. Wolfington's neck with ease.
"No!" Mr. Fink shouted. Grim Reaper let the body fall to the floor as he turned and drew
his scythe from his back and started walking towards Mr. Fink, who turned and ran out of the
    room with Candice.

Dillon, Steven, and Allison were all sitting on a bench in the change room, Steven shining
the beam from the flashlight at the door, so they'd know if it quietly opened and someone or
    something snuck in.
"See if you can walk now." Dillon told Allison. Allison tried to stand up, managed to limp
for a minute, and then collapsed on the floor. Dillon and Steven were next to her in a heartbeat,
helping her back over to the bench.
"I'll go to the Nurses office and get a wheelchair for you." Dillon offered. And at that he
left the change room. He really didn't know what was happening to him. The day before, he was
threatening Allison, now he was risking life and limb, just so she could find it easier to get from
one place to another. He didn't know what was happening to him, but he liked it. It gave him a
warm fuzzy feeling, but that was quickly being overran by a scared and frightened feeling.
"He better not die trying to help me." Allison pouted.

There was a spot in the hall, where three halls joined together. Coming from one hall was
Dillon. From another was Edward. And coming from the last was Brad, Jamie, and Jesus.
They all met in the middle, not expecting the others to be there.
"Edward!" Jamie shouted, seeing her boyfriend
"Jamie!" They hugged each other and kissed passionately on the lips.
"I was so worried about you!" Edward said once they pulled apart. Suddenly Jeff and
Angela came down from one of the halls.
"Hey Jeff." Dillon said. "Angela. Oh Jeff, Allison was looking for you. She's injured."
"Where is she?" Jeff asked frantically, worrying about his girlfriend.
"Don't worry man, she's all right, Steven's protecting her in the girl's locker room in the
gym. I was on my way to the Nurse's office to get Allison a wheelchair. Grim Reaper hurt her
    leg."
Jeff grabbed Dillon's shoulder. "Thanks for taking care of her."
    "No problem, man."
Brad spoke up. "Just to let everyone know, this thing has the ability to disappear. So I
don't think we have a chance of beating it."
"Damn, guess we were right about it being the real deal." Angela swore.
"Mr. Fink, Mrs. Wolfington, and Candice are on their way to the attic. I suggest we head
for the attic as well." Jeff advised.
"I'll get the wheelchair, meet back with Allison and Steven, and then we'll will meet you
guys at the attic." Dillon announced.
Jeff reluctantly agreed. He wanted to help Allison, but he also had to help the others get to
the attic. Allison already had two people to help her, so Jeff hoped that was enough. "Alright, I'll
make sure they don't cut the ladder till you're all with us. Take care of Allison, Dillon, I trust you
with my girl. I just hope Fink and the others aren't already up there and have already cut the rope.
If so, then we're officially screwed."
Dillon walked off, continuing to the Nurse's office as the others all walked another way.

In another hallway, someplace else in the school, Mr. Fink and Candice were walking
    down another hall.
"I can't stand it anymore. I'm hungry!" Candice shouted. She sat down on the spot and
    started eating.
"We can only stop for a few minutes." Mr. Fink advised her, also sitting down to eat.
Within minutes, their apatite was more then even they had guessed, because there were tons of
wrappers littered on the floor, and soon, there were going to be more, along with chip bags.
