CHAPTER 3: The Defence System
A few minutes later, on another level, the group was at the end of a hallway, a door blocking the rest of their way.
MIB rushed to the control panel on the wall and punched in a code. The doors slid open and they all rushed into the room. The room was a huge storage room full of large crates and wires.
“Dining Hall B” MIB spoke up. “That’s what the map says.”
“Maybe you’re reading it wrong.” Dino-Snore ran back to MIB to look at the map.
“Maybe the corporation’s hiding a few secrets down here.” Eric suggested, his hands still handcuffed behind his back.
“There may be survivors.” Dino-Snore informed them “Create a search line, but keep it tight.”
They started moving among the crates, never too far away from the each other.
Within a few minutes, JP3 Girl had wandered off on her own, as was going down an aisle of crates and containment units. She approached one containment unit out of curiosity and peered in through the small glass window.
She could see very little due to all the mist inside, but she could pick out a slimy figure inside, wires connecting from the walls of the containment unit to the flesh.
“I said keep it tight.”
JP3 Girl jumped and turned around, seeing Dino-Snore next to her, also peering into the containment unit.
“Sorry.” She apologized. Then she said, “I’m not sure I want to remember what went on down here.”
Dino-Snore looked at her, then back into the containment unit, then back at her. “I don’t blame you.” He turned to walk away. “Come on.”
JP3 Girl took one last glance at the containment unit, then turned and followed Dino-Snore.
“CJ, MIB, Stay here and set up a defence behind us.” Dino-Snore ordered.
Eric started walking with the others, but CJ pulled on his handcuffs. “You’re staying with us.”
“What the hell do they keep in these things?” Spider Carnage asked as he walked by some of the containment units.
“How do I know?” Yvonne asked.
A few minutes later, Malcolm was at a computer console, typing on a keyboard.
“What’s taking so long?” Yvonne asked.
“Red King has his defence up.” Malcolm explained as his fingers flew across the keyboard. “He’s making it difficult.”
Suddenly Malcolm had typed out the right thing and the door opened with a hiss.
“Let’s pack it up.” Dino-Snore said as they started moving towards the door. Malcolm stayed back at the computer console along with JP3 Girl and SS.
Dino-Snore, Yvonne, and Spider Carnage started unpacking a device from the big black metal trunk they brought. It was a giant cylinder that they loaded up into a holding device.
Dino-Snore went on ahead cautiously down the hall, heading for the door. Part way down bright lights suddenly turned on from all around, startling Dino-Snore.
He suddenly stopped and turned to face the other way.
“It’s ok.” Malcolm shouted down to him. “The lights are automatic.”
Dino-Snore sighed as he turned back around and continued on. As he reached the door, he passed by a hidden security camera behind a pane of glass.
He reached the door and called pressed in a code, causing the door to open and reveal another room that looked like a power room, having a giant generator in the middle.
Dino-Snore called back to Yvonne and Spider Carnage. “Alright, bring the disrupter.”
“What’s that?” JP3 Girl asked Malcolm as Spider Carnage and Yvonne picked up the disrupter and started moving down the hall.
“That’s what’s going to shut The Red King down.” Malcolm answered. “Sends out a massive electrical charge which crashes the mainframe and causes it to reboot.”
Suddenly, just as soon as Spider Carnage and Yvonne had gone inside the hall, the door slid down, trapping them inside.
As the backdoor started hissing shut, Dino-Snore backed up, talking into his headset. “Malcolm, what’s going on?”
“Some kind of defence mechanism.” Malcolm said over the headset as the last door slammed shut, trapping the three people in the hall. “We must have triggered it when we opened the door.”
“Can you bypass it?”
“Working on it.” Malcolm’s fingers started flying over the keyboard again. Suddenly a beeping noise filled the control room and Malcolm looked to one of the many computer screens and saw the words ‘Weapon systems activated’ flash on one of the screens.
“Oh no.” He whispered.
“Can’t you open that door?” SS asked.
“I’m trying!” Malcolm yelled back.
Inside the cut off hall, Spider Carnage turned and heard a whining noise. Suddenly he saw a bar of light forming at the end of the hall. “What’s that?”
“Malcolm, you’ve got to hurry, you’ve got to get them out of there!” JP3 Girl urged.
“I’m going as fast as I can!”
In the hall, the bar of light went across from one wall to the other, and then shot forward, heading towards the three M.O.D.S. members.
Just as it reached Spider Carnage, Dino-Snore dropped to the floor and pulled Spider Carnage down with him, but it was too late, the beam had just reached him and had sliced off the fingers of one of his hands.
The beam continued on towards Yvonne, who was too panicked to move.
“Something’s killing them in there!” JP3 Girl yelled above the beeping noise.
“Ahhhh!” Symboite held up his fingerless hand, screaming.
“Yvonne, I need your help!” Dino-Snore shouted. He saw he standing out of the corner of his eye, but she wasn’t answered. “Yvonne!” He screamed.
He looked up just in time to see the bar of light disappear right before hitting the far door.
He looked up at Yvonne and saw he standing perfectly still. Suddenly a small line of red appeared on her neck and started going from one end to the next. Then her head wobbled and slid down, falling off her neck and to the floor.
Her body soon fell down afterwards.
“Oh God!” Dino-Snore gasped. Then he looked down at Spider Carnage’s shaking body. “Just remain conscious.” He ordered with sympathy in his voice.
“I’m almost there!” Malcolm shouted from his console.
“Open the door!” JP3 Girl yelled.
“I’m trying!”
“Well try harder!” SS shouted back.
“Come on, it’s coming back!” Dino-Snore shouted as he helped Spider Carnage to their feet. The bar of light appeared again and started heading at the two soldiers as they backed up quickly.
Then, just before it reached them, Dino-Snore jumped up and grabbed a couple bars on the roof, bringing his feet straight up as well.
Spider Carnage jumped as well, but at the same time that the bar of light jumped up, going right through the middle of his body.
He fell to the floor and fell apart.
Dino-Snore pulled himself closer to the roof as the line continued upward and forward.
It sliced through his belt and knife, burning it in half and causing it to fall to the floor. Once the bar of light had passed, Dino-Snore jumped back to the floor and started backing up towards the door.
He reached the door just as the bar of light shot out again, going faster then ever.
“Got it!” Malcolm shouted as there was a ding noise.
Inside the hall, the door opened, but before Dino-Snore could go through, the bar of light reached him, but instead of going through him, grew into a wall of light, full with grids on it.
It burned through him, burning the grid on him. The light disappeared again and little chucks of Dino-Snore’s body started falling away and to the floor, and before long, his entire body was literally in pieces on the floor, just as the door opened.
In the computer room, SS, JP3 Girl, and Malcolm stood by the door, their mouths dropped open in disgust at the dead bodies inside the hall. The door at the other end of the hall also whooshed open.
Malcolm was in shock and more afraid then he had ever been in his life.
“Lets do it.” Malcolm said in a shaking voice, gulping.
“Do what?” SS asked.
“We have to complete the mission.”
“There’s no way I’m going down there.”
“His defences are down.” Malcolm started moving into the hall, forcing himself because he really didn’t want to.
He maunuvered around the dead bodies and picked up the cylinder shaped disrupter. He constantly looked back and forth from the two doors, making sure they weren’t closing.
JP3 Girl walked up behind him, offering to help set up the device. They carried it out of the hall and into The Red King’s chamber.
