The Lord of the Morphers: The Fellowship of the Morpher
    By Vito_The_White

    DULCEA (V.O.)
The world is changed. I feel it in the water.
I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air.
Much that once was is lost, for none now live
    who remember it.

It began with the forging of the Morphers of
Power. Three were given to the Princesses, immortal,
wisest and fairest of all beings. six were
given to the Power Rangers, great warriors and protectors of the world. And nine, nine morphers were gifted to the race of Men, who above
all else desire power. For within these morphers
was bound the power and the will to rule each
race. But they were all of them deceived, for
deep in the land of Germany, the Dark Lord
Zedd forged another morpher, a master morpher, and
into this morpher he poured all his cruelty, his
malice and his will to dominate every living
thing. One morpher to rule them all. One by one,
the free peoples of Earth fell to the
power of the mopher, but there were some who
resisted. A last alliance of men and elders
marched against the armies of Germany lead by the power rangers, and on
the very slopes of Mount Destruction, they fought for
the freedom of Earth. Victory was near,
but the power of the morpher could not be undone.

LORD ZEDD appears, crushing a dozen MEN with each blow of his
    huge mace.

    DULCEA (V.O.)
It was in this moment, when all hope had
faded, that Tommy, the white ranger, took up
    his father's sword.

TOMMY picks up sword, ZEDD breaks it, but TOMMY uses
the broken blade to cut off ZEDD’S belt, and the morpher.

    DULCEA (V.O.)
And Lord Zedd, enemy of the free peoples of
Earth, was defeated. The mopher passed to
Tommy, who had this one chance to destroy
evil forever, but the hearts of teenagers, just like men are easily
corrupted. Tommy was forced to forfeit his white ranger powers because of his taking of the one morpher. And the morpher of power has a will of its own. It betrayed Tommy, to his death.

TOMMY attacked by TENGU WARRIORS, dies in the river, and the
MORPHER is lost in the water.

    DULCEA (V.O.)
And some things that should not have been
forgotten were lost. History became legend.
Legend became myth. For two and a half thousand
years, the morpher passed out of all knowledge.
Until, when chance came, the ring ensnared
    another bearer.

FINSTER finds the morpher in the riverbed.

    FINSTER
    My Precious, my own.

    DULCEA (V.O.)
The morpher came to the creature Finster, who took
it deep into the tunnels under the Himalayan
Mountains, and there it consumed him.

    FINSTER
It came to me, my own, my love, my Precious.

    DULCEA (V.O.)
The morpher gave to Finster unnatural long life.
For five hundred years it poisoned his mind,
and in the gloom of Finster’s cave it waited.
Darkness crept back into the forests of the
world. Rumor grew of a shadow in the East,
whispers of a nameless fear, and the morpher of
Power perceived that its time had come. It
abandoned Finster, but then something happened
that the morpher did not intend. It was picked up
by the most unlikely creature imaginable. Another of the former power rangers, Jason Dillon, of Angel Grove.

    JASON
    What's this? A morpher!

    FINSTER
    Lost! My Precious is lost!

    DULCEA (V.O.)
Having lost his memory several years before of what happened during the great war, he had no memory the danger that this morpher brought. For the time would soon come when teenagers would
    shape the fortunes of all.

    Angel Grove 60 years later

JUSTIN DILLON listening to his CD player under a tree in the park, hears ZORDON approach in his buggy singing. Runs to meet him.

    JUSTIN
    You're late.

    ZORDON
A wizard is never late, Justin Dillon, nor is
he early. He arrives precisely when he means
    to.

They both try to keep a straight face, and fail. JUSTIN
throws himself into ZORDON’S arms for a hug.

    JUSTIN
It's wonderful to see you again, Zordon.

    ZORDON
You didn't think I'd miss your Uncle Jason’s
    birthday.

    JUSTIN
What's new in the world? Tell me everything.

    ZORDON
Haven't we grown curious? Most unnatural for a
teenager. What can I tell you? Life in the wide
world goes on, much as it has this past age,
full of its own comings and goings, scarcely
aware of the existence of teens. For which I
    am very grateful.

They pass an area of the park where tents and a banner are being set
    up.

    ZORDON
Ah, the long-expected party. How is the old
rascal? I understand this is to be a party of
    special magnificence.

    JUSTIN
You know Jason. He has the whole place in an
    uproar.

    ZORDON
    Well, that should please him.

    JUSTIN
Half of Spain’s been invited. He's up to
    something.

    ZORDON
    Indeed?

    JUSTIN
All right, keep your secrets. Before you came
along, we Dillons were very well thought of.
Never had any adventures or did anything
    unexpected.

    ZORDON
If you're referring to that incident with Surpentera,
I was barely involved. I only gave your
uncle a little nudge out the door.

    JUSTIN
Whatever you did, you have been officially
labeled a disturber of the peace.

A group of children see ZORDON and come running.

    CHILDREN
    Zordon, Zordon! Fireworks, Zordon!

ZORDON pretends he won't, but he sets off a butterfly
firework for them. An old grandmother's smile at the
children's delight turns to a more socially acceptable
frown when an annoyed mother becomes witness.

    JUSTIN
    Zordon, I'm glad you're back.

    JUSTIN jumps off the wagon.

    ZORDON
So am I, dear boy, so am I.

ZORDON stops his wagon in front of a nice house, passes a sign
'No Admittance Except on Party Business', knocks on the
door with his staff. A disgruntled voice comes from within.

    JASON
No thank you! We don't want any more
tax collectors, visitors, or distant relations!

    ZORDON
    How about very old friends?

    JASON
    Zordon?

    ZORDON
    Jason Baggins!

    JASON
    My dear Zordon!

    ZORDON
One hundred and eleven years old! Who would
believe it? You haven't aged a day.

    JASON
Come in, come in, welcome, would you like some
tea? Or perhaps something stronger. I still
have some of the Old Winyards left. 1993, a
very good year! Almost as old as I am! My
Father put it down. What say we open one?

JASON puts ZORDON’S hat and staff away.

    ZORDON
    Just tea, thank you.

ZORDON knocks the chandelier, steadies it, and hits his
head on the beam when he turns around.

    JASON
I was expecting you last week, but you come
    and go as you please...

JASON gathers food while ZORDON looks at the maps spread
    out on JASON’S table.

    JASON
I can make you some eggs if you like...

JASON comes into the room, but ZORDON isn't there.
    ZORDON appears from behind him.

    ZORDON
    Just tea.

    JASON
Yes, right, you don't mind if I do?

JASON has a mouthful of food already.

    ZORDON
    Oh, no, not at all.

    Someone knocks on the door.

    JASON
I'm not at home! I need to get away from these
confounded relatives, hanging on the bell all
day, never giving me a moment's rest. I want to
see mountains again, Zordon, mountains! And
then find someplace quiet where I can finish my
    book. Oh, right, the tea.

    ZORDON
You mean to go through with your plan, then?

    JASON
Yes, everything's in hand. The arrangements
    have all been made.

    ZORDON
    Justin suspects.

    JASON
Of course he suspects, he's a Dillon, not
    some blockheaded fool from California!

    ZORDON
You will tell him, won't you?

    JASON
    Yes, yes.

    ZORDON
He's very fond of you, you know.

    JASON
I know. He'd probably come with me if I asked
him to, but I think in his heart Justin is still
in love with Angel Grove. The woods, the city,
    little rivers. I'm old, Zordon. I know I don't
look it, but I begin to feel it in my heart. I
feel thin, stretched, like butter scraped over
too much bread. I need a holiday, a very
long holiday, and I don't expect I shall
return. In fact, I mean not to!

JASON and ZORDON sit outside JASON’S home, smoking.

    JASON
Finest cigars in all of England.

JASON blows a smoke-ring, ZORDON blows a ship, which
    sails through the ring.

    JASON
Zordon, my old friend, this will be a night
    to remember!

ZORDON sets off fireworks - a tree, fountain that turns
    into jet planes.

JUSTIN sits down next to ADAM.

    JUSTIN
Go on, Adam, ask Catrina for a dance!

    ADAM is too shy.

    ADAM
I think I'll just have another ale.

    JUSTIN
    Oh, no you don't!

JUSTIN shoves ADAM at CATRINA, they dance off

JASON is telling his story to the young children.

    JASON
So there I was, at the mercy of three
monstrous creatures, and they were arguing about
how to cook us! Whether it be turned on a spit,
or if they should sit on us one by one and
squash us into jelly! They spent so much time
arguing the whithertos and whyfors that the
first light of the sun crept up over the tops
of the trees and turned them all to stone!

ZORDON sets off a butterflies firework, which the
    children try to catch.

ZORDON returns to his wagon for more fireworks, and when
he leaves, ROCKY and BILLY come out to steal one of their
own. ROCKY gives BILLY a boost into the wagon, where he
roots around and comes up with one.

    ROCKY
Not that one! The big one, the big one!

BILLY grabs the largest firework he can find, which is
bright red and huge. They hurry into the tent, so they
won't be caught with it. BILLY lights it.

    BILLY
    There!

    ROCKY
You're supposed to put it in the ground first!

    BILLY
    It is in the ground!

    ROCKY
    Outside!

    BILLY
    This was your idea!

The firework goes off, taking the roof of the tent with
it, and leaving ROCKY and BILLY flat on the ground,
covered in soot. The firework goes straight up, becomes a
dragon's head, turns around, sprouts wings, and flies in
low over the crowd. General panic. JUSTIN sees it coming and
    tries to warn JASON.

    JUSTIN
Jason, watch out for the dragon!

    JASON
Nonsense, there hasn't been a dragon in these
    parts for a million years!

They duck to avoid the dragon, which, having given
everyone a good scare, dissolves into a spectacular shower
of sparks. ROCKY and BILLY observe the results and are
    well pleased.

    BILLY
    That was good!

    ROCKY
    Let's get another one!

ZORDON comes up behind and grabs ROCKY and BILLY by
    their ears.

    ZORDON
Rocky Freeman, and Billy Heath. I
    might have known.

ROCKY and BILLY end up washing dishes in penance. Several
people go by carrying an enormous cake laden with candles,
    and JASON stands up.

    Speech! Speech!

    JASON
My dear Dillons and Akers, Heaths and
    Freemans, Trices, Naffs, Simminses,
    Taylors, Surratts and Proudfoots!

    Proudfeet!

    JASON
Today is my one hundred and eleventh birthday!
Alas, eleventy one years is much too short a
time to live among such excellent and admirable
people! I don't know half of you half as well
as I should like and I like less than half of
you half as well as you deserve! I have things
to do. I've put this off for far too long. I
regret to announce this is the end! I'm going
now. I bid you all a very fond farewell!
    Goodbye.

JASON puts the morpher on his arm and presses several buttons and vanishes, to the astonishment
of everyone except ZORDON. Footsteps up the path to Jason’s home. Door opens. JASON appears, taking off the MORPHER. Puts
it in his pocket. Chooses a staff from beside the door.
    ZORDON has arrived before him.

    ZORDON
I suppose you thought that was terribly
    clever.

    JASON
Come on, Zordon! Did you see their faces?

    ZORDON
There are a good many magic morphers in the
world, Jason, and none of them should be used
lightly! You should remember that from when you were a power ranger.

    JASON
It was just a bit of fun. Oh, I suppose you're
    right, as usual.

JASON gathers some things to take with him.

    JASON
You will keep an eye on Justin, won't you?

    ZORDON
Two eyes, as often as I can spare them.

    JASON
    I'm leaving everything to him.

    ZORDON
And this morpher of yours, is that staying, too?

    JASON
Yes, it's in an envelope, on the mantelpiece.

    ZORDON looks on the mantel.

    JASON
Wait, no, it's here in my pocket. Isn't that
odd, now? Yet, why not? Why shouldn't I keep
it? It doesn’t even have the power to make me a ranger.

    ZORDON
I think you should leave the morpher behind. Is
    that so hard?

    JASON
Well, no, and yes. Now it comes to it.
I don't feel like parting with it! I found it!
    It came to me!

    ZORDON
There's no need to get angry.

    JASON
And what if I'm angry! It's your fault! It's
    mine. My own, my precious...

    ZORDON
Precious? It's been called that before, but
    not by you.

    JASON
What business is it of yours what I do with my
    own things?

    ZORDON
I think you've had that morpher quite long
    enough.

    JASON
    You want it for yourself!

A shadow draws around ZORDON, revealing the power he
    usually keeps hidden.

    ZORDON
Jason Dillon! Do not take me for some conjuror of cheap
tricks! I am not trying to rob you! I'm trying
    to help you.

The shadow retreats, and ZORDON is the kindly old man
    again. JASON runs to him.

    ZORDON
All your long years, we have been friends.
Trust me now as you once did. Let it go.

    JASON
You're right. The morpher must go to Justin. It's
late, and the road is long. Yes, it is time.

JASON gathers his pack and heads out the door. ZORDON
    stops him on the doorstep.

    ZORDON
Jason, the morpher is still in your pocket.

    JASON
    Oh, yes.

JASON takes out the morpher, holds it on his palm, and with a
great effort, turns his hand until the morpher slips off and
drops on the floor. JASON walks out, takes a deep breath.

    JASON
I've thought of an ending for my book. 'And he
lived happily ever after, to the end of his
    days.'

    ZORDON
And I'm sure you will, old friend.

    JASON
    Good bye, Zordon.

They shake hands, friends as always.

    ZORDON
    Goodbye, dear Jason.

    Exit JASON, singing.

    ZORDON
    Until our next meeting.

ZORDON reaches down to pick up the MORPHER, sees the EYE,
and leaves it where it is. Sits in front of the fire,
thinking about JASON’S words, and the morpher’s history.

    JASON
It's mine, my own, my precious.

    ZORDON
    Riddles in the dark... Precious...

    JUSTIN
    Jason!

JUSTIN enters, sees the morpher and picks it up.

    JUSTIN
He's gone, hasn't he? He talked about it for
so long, I never really believed he would do
    it. Zordon?

ZORDON looks over, sees JUSTIN has the MORPHER.

    ZORDON
Jason’s Ring. He's gone to stay with the
elders. He's left you his home, along with all
his possessions. The Morpher is yours now.

ZORDON holds out an envelope, JUSTIN slips the MORPHER
inside. ZORDON seals it with wax.

    ZORDON
Put it somewhere out of sight.

    JUSTIN
    Where are you going?

    ZORDON heads for the door.

    ZORDON
There are things I need to see to.

    JUSTIN
    What things?

    ZORDON
    Questions, questions that need answering.

    JUSTIN
    But you've only just arrived! I don't
    understand.

    ZORDON
Neither do I. Keep it secret. Keep it safe.

ZORDON rides to Paris France, sees fire over the
mountains. THE PALACE rebuilt, a voice screams “Angel Grove!
Dillon!' The Nine ride out the gate. ZORDON looks through
the library in Paris, finds the manuscript of
    TOMMY’S tale.

    The year 1995. Here follows
the account of Tommy, former White Power Ranger,
and the finding of the Morpher. The Morpher of power
has come to me. Even though I may have lost my other morpher for this one and the friends that worked along side me as a ranger I still keep it. It will become an heirloom of
my new kingdom. All those who follow in my
bloodline will be bound to its fate, for I will
risk no hurt to the Morpher. It is precious to me,
though I buy it with a great pain. The markings
on the face of the Morpher, the writing that was once as
bright as red flame has all but disappeared, a
secret now only fire can tell.

A TEENAGER cutting wood is startled by GOLDAR, the leader of the nine. His dog
    sensibly retreats into the house.

    GOLDAR
    Angel Grove. Dillon.

    TEENAGER
    No Dillons here. That way.

He follows his dog as the GOLDAR turns toward ANGEL GROVE.

JUSTIN returns home from the inn, the window is open and
all is dark. ZORDON grabs his shoulder from behind.

    ZORDON
Is it secret? Is it safe?

JUSTIN gets out the envelope, ZORDON throws it in the
    fire.

    JUSTIN
    What are you doing?

Envelope burns away, revealing the MORPHER. ZORDON retrieves
it from the fire with tongs.

    ZORDON
Hold out your hand, Justin. It's quite cool.
What can you see? Can you see anything?

    JUSTIN
Nothing. There's nothing. Wait. There are
markings. It's some form of German, but I can't
    read it.

    ZORDON
There are few who can. The language is that of
Germany, which I shall not utter here.

    JUSTIN
    Germany?

    ZORDON
In the common tongue, it reads, One Morpher to
rule them all, one Morpher to find them. One Morpher
to bring them all and in the darkness bind
    them.

    ZORDON
This is the One Morpher, forged by Lord Zedd in the
fires of Mount Destruction. Tommy took it from the
    belt of Lord Zedd himself.

    JUSTIN
Jason found it, in Finster’s cave.

    ZORDON
For sixty years, it lay quiet in Jason’s
keeping, prolonging his life, delaying old age.
But no longer. There is evil stirring in
Germany. The Morpher has awoken. It's heard its
    master's call.

    JUSTIN
But he was destroyed. Lord Zedd was destroyed.

    The MORPHER whispers denial.

    ZORDON
No, Justin. His spirit endured. Zedd’s life-
force was bound to the Morpher, and the Morpher
survived. Zedd has returned. His Tengu’s have
multiplied. His fortress of The Palace is
rebuilt in Germany. He needs only this Morpher to
cover all the lands in a second darkness. He is
seeking it, seeking it, all his thought is bent
on it. The Morpher yearns above all else to return
to the hand of its master. They are one, the
Ring and Lord Zedd. He must never find it.

    JUSTIN grabs the MORPHER.
