Fellowship of the Morpher Part 2

JUSTIN
All right, we keep it hidden. We put it away,
we never speak of it again. Nobody knows its
here, do they?
ZORDON is silent.
JUSTIN
Do they, Zordon?
ZORDON
There was one other who knew that Jason had
the Morpher. I looked everywhere for the monster
Finster, but the Enemy found him first.
ZORDON
I don't know how long they tortured him, but
amid the endless screams and inane babble, they
heard two words. Angel Grove. Dillon.
JUSTIN
Angel Grove. Dillon. But that would lead them here!
GOLDAR kills a night watchman with his golden sword. JUSTIN holds out the MORPHER to ZORDON.
JUSTIN
Take it, Zordon, you must take it!
ZORDON
You cannot offer me this Morpher!
JUSTIN
I am giving it to you!
ZORDON
Don't tempt me Justin! I dare not take this
Morpher, not even to keep it safe! Understand, I
would use this Morpher out of a desire to do good,
but through me, it would wield a power too
great and terrible to imagine.
JUSTIN
But it cannot stay in Angel Grove!
ZORDON
No. No, it can't.
JUSTIN accepts his duty.
JUSTIN
What must I do?
ZORDON
You must go, and go quickly.
JUSTIN
Where?
ZORDON
Get out of Angel Grove. Make for the village of
Andorra.
JUSTIN
What about you?
ZORDON
I will wait for you at the Inn of the Sitting
Duck.
JUSTIN
And the Morpher will be safe there?
ZORDON
I don't know, Justin. I don't have any answers.
I must see the head of my order. She is both
powerful and wise. Trust me, she will know what
to do. You must leave the name of Dillon
behind you, for that name is not safe outside
Angel Grove or Spain. Travel only by day, and stay off the road.
JUSTIN
I can cut across country easily enough.
ZORDON stops, looking at JUSTIN, who is within minutes
packed, cloaked, and ready for a long and dangerous
journey.
ZORDON
Dear Justin. Teenagers are the most amazing
creatures. You can learn everything there is to
know about their ways in a month, and after a
hundred years they can still surprise you!
Noise outside the window.
ZORDON
Get down!
JUSTIN drops to the floor, ZORDON reaches out the window
with his staff, hits something. Hauls ADAM in by the scruff
of his neck.
ZORDON
Confound it all, Adam Morgan, have you been
eavesdropping?
ADAM
I ain't been dropping no eaves, sir, honest, I
was just cutting the grass outside the window,
if you follow me.
ZORDON
A bit late for trimming the verge.
ADAM
I heard raised voices.
ZORDON
What did you hear? Speak!
ADAM
Nothing important. That is, I heard a good
deal about a morpher, and a dark lord, and
something about the end of the world. Please
don't hurt me, sir, don't turn me into anything
unnatural.
ZORDON
No? Perhaps not. I've thought of a better use
for you.
ZORDON and JUSTIN walking, ZORDON leading his horse.
ZORDON
Come along, Adam, keep up!
Adam runs to catch up. The three stop under the trees.
ZORDON
Be careful, both of you. The enemy has many
spies in his service. Birds, beasts. Is it
safe?
JUSTIN pats his pocket, where the MORPHER is hidden.
ZORDON
Never put it on! The servants of Lord Zedd
will be drawn to its power. Remember, the Morpher
is trying to get back to its master. It
wants to be found.
ZORDON leaves. JUSTIN and ADAM cross fields, going towards
ANDORRA. ADAM stops on the edge of a field of wheat.
ADAM
This is it.
JUSTIN
This is what?
ADAM
If I take one more step, it will be the
farthest from home I've ever been.
JUSTIN
Come on, Adam. Remember what Jason used to say.
It's a dangerous thing, Justin, going out your
door. You step onto the road, and if you don't
keep your feet, there's no knowing where you'll
be swept off to.
ZORDON riding to The Eiffel Tower.
RITA REPULSA
Smoke rises from the mountain of Destruction. The
hour grows late, and Zordon of Eltar rides to
The Eiffel Tower seeking my council. For that is why
you have come, is it not, my old friend?
ZORDON
Rita.
ZORDON and RITA walking outside Eiffel.
RITA
You are sure of this?
ZORDON
Beyond any doubt.
RITA
So the One Morpher has been found.
ZORDON
All these long years it was in Angel Grove,
right under my very nose.
RITA
And yet you had not the wit to see it. Your love
of the young adults' leaf has clearly slowed your
mind.
ZORDON
We still have time, time to counter Lord Zedd, if
we act quickly.
RITA
Time? What time do you think we have?
RITA and ZORDON inside The EIFFLE TOWER.
RITA
Zedd has regained much of his former
strength. He cannot yet take physical form, but
his spirit has lost none of its potency.
Concealed in his fortress he sees all. His gaze
pierces cloud, shadow, earth and flesh. You
know of what I speak Zordon. A great eye, lidless,
wreathed in flame.
ZORDON
The Eye of Zedd.
RITA
He is gathering all evil to him. Very soon he
will have assembled an army large enough to
assault Earth.
ZORDON
You know this? How?
RITA
I have seen it.
They enter another room, where a glass globe lies
covered.
ZORDON
A Viewing Globe is a dangerous tool Rita.
RITA uncovers the Globe.
RITA
Why? Why should we fear to use it?
ZORDON
They are not all accounted for, the lost
seeing globes. You do not know who else may be
watching.
As he re-covers the globe, ZORDON sees the EYE
RITA
The hour is later than you think. Zedd’s
forces are already moving. The Nine have left
Minas Alto.
ZORDON
The Nine?
RITA
They crossed the river Isen on midsummer's
eve, most disguised as riders in black.
ZORDON
They have reached Angel Grove!
RITA
They will find the Morpher, and kill the one who
carries it.
ZORDON
Justin!
ZORDON tries to leave, but the doors slam, one by one.
RITA
You did not truly think that a teenager could
contend with the will of Lord Zedd? There are none
who can. Against the power of Germany there can
be no victory. We must join him, Zordon. Join
with Lord Zedd. It would be wise, my friend.
ZORDON
Tell me, friend, when did Rita Repulsa
Decide to once again betray all that is good?
Rita yells at ZORDON as she uses her staff on him. ZORDON goes flying onto the wall. RITA walks down from her chair angered. She then lets lose of the hold and ZORDON falls to the ground. However, ZORDON uses his staff and RITA falls to the ground as well. RITA is prepared for this and hits ZORDON with another power blow of her staff. ZORDON crashes his head into a wall. ZORDON then tries a last chance shot and uses his staff to sling RITA all the way to one of the doors. RITA crashes through the door and lands on the ground. However, she gets back to her knees and makes a grabbing hand movement. This causes ZORDON to lose his staff as it goes flying into RITA’S hand. RITA then uses both staffs to take ZORDON to the ground. SHE starts making ZORDON twirl around on the floor.
RITA
I offered you the choice of aiding me
willingly, but you have elected the way of
pain!
ZORDON rises toward the roof of The Eiffel Tower as he screams. Then darkness.
Adam emerges from a corn patch, alone.
ADAM
Justin? Justin!
JUSTIN reappears from the path ahead.
ADAM
I thought I'd lost you.
JUSTIN
What are you talking about, Adam?
ADAM
It's just something Zordon said.
JUSTIN
What did he say?
ADAM
Don't you lose him, ADAM Morgan. And I
don't mean to.
JUSTIN
We're still very near Angel Grove, Adam, what could
possibly happen?
They get knocked over by ROCKY and BILLY.
BILLY
Justin! Look, Rocky, it's Justin Dillon!
ADAM
You get off him!
ADAM shakes off ROCKY, picks BILLY off JUSTIN by the scruff
of his neck.
ROCKY hands ADAM an armful of vegetables.
ROCKY
Hold these.
JUSTIN
What's the meaning of this?
ADAM
You've been into Farmer Ernie’s crop!
They start running through a cornfield.
ROCKY
I don't know what he's so upset about, it's
only a few carrots.
BILLY
And some cabbages. And the three bags of
potatoes we lifted last week. And the mushrooms
the week before that.
ROCKY
Yes, Billy! My point is, he's obviously
overreacting!
They all fall over a cliff, land in a heap.
BILLY lands inches away from a pile of manure.
BILLY
Ooh! That was a close one.
ROCKY
I think I've broken something.
ROCKY pulls out a broken carrot.
ADAM
Trust a Freeman and a Heath!
ROCKY
Nonsense! That was just a detour! A shortcut!
ADAM
Shortcut to what?
BILLY
Mushrooms!
Three start gathering mushrooms into a bag.
JUSTIN looks down the road.
JUSTIN
I think we should get off the road.
Something dark approaches.
JUSTIN
Get off the road, quick!
They hide under the roots of a tree. RITO REVOLTO comes,
on his horse. Gets off the horse, sniffing as though he can
smell that the MORPHER is close. A spider crawls out, and a
centipede, and a lot of worms. For the first time, the MORPHER
tries to impose its will on JUSTIN, pushing him to put it on
so they will be found. ADAM distracts him. ROCKY throws
something to distract RITO, and they run away.
BILLY
What was that?
It is dark, they have been running for some time, watching
for RITO.
Anything?
JUSTIN
Nothing.
ROCKY
That monster was looking for something, or
someone. Justin?
RITO appears, in the distance.
Get down!
They hide again.
JUSTIN
I have to leave Angel Grove. Adam and I have to
get to Andorra.
ROCKY
Blueberry ferry. Follow me.
They run, but the horse is right behind them. JUSTIN gets
separated from the rest, who get to the ferry ahead of him.
ROCKY
Adam, get the ropes!
They untie the raft.
Run, Justin!
RITO is right behind JUSTIN.
JUSTIN
Go!
JUSTIN jumps off the dock, and just makes it onto the
ferry. RITO stops at the water's edge.
JUSTIN
Where is the nearest crossing?
ROCKY
Cherrywine bridge. Twenty miles.
They look back to see three RIDERS now, heading for the
bridge. They all look different from one another in many ways.
Four TEENAGERS arrive at ANDORRA, in the pouring rain, knock on
the gate. Guard answers. Seeing no one at the window, he
opens the lower window.
GUARD
What do you want?
JUSTIN
We are headed for the Sitting Duck.
GUARD
Teenagers. Four Teenagers! What business brings
you to Andorra?
JUSTIN
We wish to stay at the inn. Our business is
our own.
GUARD
Very well, young sir, didn't mean no offence
by it. It's my job to ask questions after
nightfall. There's been talk of some strange
folk about. Can't be too careful.
Arrival at the Sitting Duck.
JUSTIN
Excuse me?
BULK
Good evening, little Masters. If you're
looking for accommodation, we have some cozy
young adult-sized rooms available, Mr...?
JUSTIN
Olive. My name's Olive. We're friends
of Zordon of Eltar. Would you tell him we've
arrived?
BULK
Zordon? Zordon? Oh, yes. Elderly chap, big grey beard, pointy hat. Haven't seen him in six months.
ADAM
What do we do now?
JUSTIN
He'll come, Adam. He'll be here.
ROCKY sits down.
BILLY
What's that?
ROCKY
This, my friend, is a pint.
BILLY
It comes in pints? I'm going to get one.
ADAM
You've had a whole half already.
BILLY goes to the bar for his pint.
ADAM
That man's done nothing but stare at you since
we came in.
JUSTIN stops the innkeeper.
JUSTIN
That man in the corner, who is he?
BULK
He's one of them Rangers. Dangerous folk, they
are, wandering the wilds. What his right name
is I've never heard, but round here he's known
as Howling Wolf.
JUSTIN
Howling Wolf.
Morpher tries again to get JUSTIN to put it on, whispering
Dillon, Dillon.
BILLY
Dillon? Sure I know a Dillon - Justin
Dilon, over there. He's my second cousin,
once removed on his Mother's side.
JUSTIN runs toward BILLY, at the bar.
JUSTIN
Billy!
BILLY
Steady on!
JUSTIN trips, the morpher falls on his arm and he presses a few buttons. The Nine turn towards ANDORRA. JUSTIN sees the EYE for the first time. JUSTIN
takes off the Morpher and is dragged off by Howling Wolf.
HOWLING WOLF
You draw far too much attention to yourself,
Mr. Olive.
JUSTIN
What do you want?
HOWLING WOLF
A little more caution from you, that is no
trinket you carry.
JUSTIN
I carry nothing.
HOWLING WOLF
Indeed? I can avoid being seen if I wish, but
to disappear entirely - that is a rare gift.
JUSTIN
Who are you?
HOWLING WOLF
Are you frightened?
JUSTIN
Yes.
HOWLING WOLF
Not nearly frightened enough. I know what
hunts you.
The three TEENAGERS come in, threatening HOWING WOLF if he has
hurt JUSTIN.
HOWING WOLF
You have a stout heart, little teen, but it
will not save you. You can no longer wait for
the wizard, Justin. They are coming.
Four of the Nine, Goldar, Rito, Elgar, and Ecliptor arrive at Andorra, break down the gate and
squash the doorkeeper. They find the room where TEENAGERS
appear to be sleeping and stab them, become angry when they
find they have been tricked. JUSTIN is awake already,
watching HOWLING WOLF watching out the window. The others wake
at the noise.
JUSTIN
What are they?
HOWLING WOLF
They were once men. Great kings of men, but
Lord Zedd the Deceiver gave them nine morphers of
power, and, blinded by their greed, they took
them without question, one by one falling into
darkness. Now they are slaves to his will. They
are the monsters, Basmouthoids, neither living nor
dead. At all times they feel the presence of
the morpher, drawn to the power of the One. They
will never stop hunting you.
The party leaves Andorra, avoiding the roads.
JUSTIN
Where are you taking us?
HOWLING WOLF
Into the wilds.
They walk for a while.
ROCKY
How do we know this Howling Wolf is a friend of
Zordon’s?
JUSTIN
We have no choice but to trust him.
ADAM
Where is he taking us?
HOWLING WOLF
To Switzerland, Master Morgan, the home of
Ninjar.
ADAM
Did you hear that? Switzerland! We're going to
see the elders!
TEENAGERS stop.
HOWLING WOLF
Gentlemen, we do not stop till nightfall.
BILLY
What about breakfast?
HOWLING WOLF
You have had it.
BILLY
We've had one, yes, what about second
breakfast?
ROCKY
I don't think he knows about second breakfast,
Billy.
BILLY
What about elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea?
Dinner? Supper? Do you think he knows about
them?
ROCKY
I wouldn't count on it.
HOWLING WOLF throws an apple to ROCKY, who catches it, and
BILLY, who gets hit in the head.
RITA REPULSA using Viewing Globe.
RITA
The power of The Eiffel Tower is at your command,
Zedd, Lord of the Earth.
ZEDD
Build me an army worthy of Germany.
RITA sits in her study, looking uncomfortable. TENGUS
enter, looking out of place.
TENGU
What orders from Germany, my empress? What does
the Eye command?
RITA
We have work to do.
TENGU begin pulling down trees. ZORDON observes from his
prison atop the tower.
TENGU
The trees are strong, my empress. Their roots go
deep.
RITA
Rip them all down.
JUSTIN and company cross harsh lands.
HOWLING WOLF
This was once the great watchtower of Gilgalad. We will rest here tonight.
HOWLING WOLF unwraps four swords, passes them out to the TEENAGERS.
HOWLING WOLF
These are for you. Keep them close. I'm going
to have a look around. Stay here.
JUSTIN is napping, wakes up to find the others have built a
fire.
JUSTIN
What are you doing?
ROCKY
Sausages, tomatoes, nice crispy bacon!
ADAM
We saved some for you!
JUSTIN
Put it out, you fools, put it out!
JUSTIN stamps out the fire.
BILLY
That's nice, ash on my tomatoes.
They look over the edge to find BASMOUTHOIDS approaching.
JUSTIN pulls out his sword.
JUSTIN
Go!
TEENAGERS retreat to the center of the ruin, stand back to
back, not knowing where the MONSTERS will come from. Five
MONSTERS enter the ruin. They are GOLDAR, RITO, ELGAR, ECLIPTOR, and PRINCE GASKET.
ADAM
Back, you devils!
ADAM tries to fight them, gets tossed aside. ROCKY and
BILLY step in front, get pushed away. JUSTIN drops his
sword, backs away. Falls down. The MONSTERS seem to know he
has the MORPHER. He pulls it out of his pocket, and they all
focus on it. MONSTERS close in, and he puts on the morpher.
GOLDAR tries to take the morpher. It takes all
JUSTIN’S strength to pull it away. GOLDAR seems angry
that JUSTIN has denied him and stabs him in the shoulder.
HOWLING WOLF attacks MONSTERS, JUSTIN takes the morpher off.
ADAM
Justin!
Adam runs to Justin, now that he can see him.
JUSTIN
Oh, Adam!
HOWLING WOLF stabs and sets fire to MONSTERS, they go away.
ADAM
Howling Wolf! Help him!
HOWLING WOLF picks up the sword, but the blade dissolves into
dust.
HOWLING WOLF
He's been stabbed with a German blade. This is
beyond my skill to heal, he needs elderish
medicine.
HOWLING WOLF picks up JUSTIN, who is in a lot of pain.
HOWLING WOLF
Hang on, Justin.
ADAM
It's six days to Switzerland! He'll never make
it!
JUSTIN
Zordon. Zordon!
ZORDON is still imprisoned on top of The Eiffel Tower, which is
now barren, with deep holes in the ground where TENGUS mine
and forge weapons and armor. A moth flutters by, and
ZORDON catches it, speaks to it, and lets it go. RITA REPULSA
oversees her latest project - a new type of creature is
being bred in pits of mud. One awakens, and immediately
kills the TENGU tending it. RITA seems pleased.
HOWLING WOLF carries JUSTIN, they stop at the three stone
MONSTERS.
ADAM
Justin? He's going cold!
BILLY
Is he going to die?
HOWLING WOLF
He is passing into the shadow world. Soon he
will become a monster like them.
There is a cry, not far enough away.
ROCKY
They're close!
HOWLING WOLF
Adam, do you know the Athelas plant?
ADAM
Athelas?
HOWLING WOLF
Kingsfoil.
ADAM
Kingsfoil? Aye, it's a weed.
HOWLING WOLF
It may help to slow the poison.
ADAM and HOWING WOLF search for plant, HOWLING WOLF finds it.
PRINCESS SHAYLA
What's this? A Ranger caught off his guard?
JUSTIN sees SHAYLA as she is from the shadow world- a
beautiful, glowing princess-maiden in white robes.
SHAYLA
Justin, I am Princess Shayla. I've come to help you. Hear my voice. Return to the light.
A black stain is spreading across JUSTIN’S eyes as the
poison takes over.
Who is she?
ADAM
She's a princess!
SHAYLA
He's fading. He's not going to last. We have
to get him to my father.
HOWLING WOLF chews up some of the Kingsfoil and presses it into
the wound.
SHAYLA
I've been looking for you for two days. There
are five wraiths behind you. Where the other
four are I do not know.
