Malcolm Effect: Jurassic Park 3 Part 2
    By Vito Hardy

    Montana Airfield-Day

In the cockpit of a trashed up airplane, Nash Standish stands up holding a spray paint can. He then proceeds to paint an eye on the window, in red. He looks at his finished product, smiles, and backs away. We then see a pickup truck pull up, and someone gets out.

    NASH
    “Hey Cooper. What’s up man?”

    COOPER
“I can’t believe were going to actually do this.”

    NASH
“Well as long as the Kirby’s pay us. Plus, you and that giant mammoth of a gun…”

    COOPER (laughing)
“Yeah you like that uh? Just think…see that airplane? It’s about to be devastated. Watch this.”

We then see Huford Udesky walking into an airplane that is quite intact. His cell phone proceeds to ring.

    UDESKY
    “Udesky.”

    UDESKY
“Yeah. Yeah okay. Sure. Yeah…Nash says that he is having trouble getting the Costa Rican department of air control to let us do this…uh huh…well, I’ll make sure to tell him.”

Udesky then walks off the plane and toward Cooper and Nash, who are standing around a large gun lying on the ground, and Cooper manning it. Cooper then shoots the gun, shooting a large impact bullet into the plane’s tank, causing it to explode.

    UDESKY
“Rest assured Mr. Kirby. It’ll be a walk in the park.”

    University of Montana-Mathematical Lab-Day

The velociraptor was six feet tall and dark green. poised to attack, it hissed loudly, its muscular neck thrust foward, jaws wide. Richard Levine, late 40s, was the modeler of this creature.

    LEVINE
    "What do you think, Ian?"

    MALCOLM
    "No menace."

    LEVINE
    "No menace?"

    MALCOLM
"They never stand like this, flatfooted on two feet. Give him a book-"

Malcolm grabbed a notebook from a desk, and placed it in the forearms of the animal.

    MALCOLM
"-and he might be singing a Christmas carol."

    LEVINE
"Gee, I didn't think it was that bad."

    MALCOLM
"Bad? This is an insult to a great predator. We should feel his speed and menace and power. Widen the jaws. Get the neck down. Tense the muscles, tighten the skin. And get that leg up. Remember, raptors don't attack with their jaws-they use their toe-claws. I want to see the claw raised up, ready to slash down and tear the guts out of its prey. And another thing: change that hissing sound. It sounds like somebody taking a pee. Give this animal a snarl. Give a great predator his due."

Malcolm looks at his watch realizing the time.

    MALCOLM
"I must get to the dig site. Dr. Brennan says that he has something to show me dealing with raptor volcilization. Hey maybe you should come with me so you can hear the true sounds of raptors, and get ride of your little discrease of a peeing sensation."

Levine nodds and follows Malcolm out of the lab.

    Montana Badlands - late evening

Two paleontologists, male and female, are checking out a newly dug skeleton, resembling the form of a raptor. The female paleontologist says something to the male.

    FEMALE PALEONTOLOGIST
    “Hey Billy…come here please.”

Billy, the male scientist, walks over to assist his female helper.

    BILLY
    “…yeah? What is it…Cheryl?”

    CHERYL
“How do you tell the difference between the rock and bone? I always mess up…maybe this isn’t a job for me…”

    BILLY
“Don’t talk like that…you are the best cavity identifier we’ve had…now look. Let me see your hand…no, pointer finger.”

Billy takes a hold of Cheryl’s finger, and rubs it across the surfaces of the rock and bone.

    BILLY
“See? Rough…smooth. Rough…smooth. Bone is smooth. Rock is rough. Rough…smooth.”

It must also be mentioned that Billy done this in a rather sensual manner. They both have very approachful smiles on them. Suddenly, a pickup truck pulls up. Dr. Macolm and Dr. Levine get out, and look down at Billy and Cheryl. Billy sees Malcolm and Levine and stands up, looking at him.

    BILLY
    “Dr. Malcolm!"

    MALCOLM
    “Hello Dr. Brennan.”

    LEVINE
    "Hello, Billy."

We then proceed to see Malcolm, Levine, and Billy walking alongside each other, toward a trailer.

    BILLY
“I can’t believe how lucky we’ve been in striking skeletons…seems like the Montana badlands are, well was a prime source for Velociraptors, especially.”

    LEVINE
    “Billy you sound excited.”

    BILLY
    “Come with me, guys.”

The three get to the door of the trailer and Billy stops Leine and Malcolm in their tracks.

    BILLY
“Now, before we go in…out of all the raptor skeletons we’ve found, we haven’t really found a well-preserved skull.”

    MALCOLM
“Sure we have Billy…Terry found one weeks ago…”

    BILLY
“But…not like this. Let me show you something.”

The three men walk into the trailer, and Billy walks over to a computer terminal.

    BILLY
    “Ian, Stand right...right there.”

Billy types some things into the computer, and Malcolm stands there, hopefully awaiting something good from Billy’s ramblings. Levine stands beside Billy watching him type on the computer.

    BILLY
“Okay. Now, these macs suck, but they will get the job done.”

Billy holds up part of a raptor skull.

    BILLY
“Guys, I give you the resonating chamber of a velociraptor. Listen.”

Billy holds up the skull, like a sea conch, and blows through a small funnel. It makes a high-pitched horn noise. It sounds faintly like a raptor call. Malcolm suddenly remembers what they sound like when Billy blows through the skull, giving them a feeling of distortion.

    BILLY
“The wind travels through its pipe, and I’m guessing that this is leading to the discovery that they could talk to each other VIA these chambers.”

    MALCOLM
    “That’s…that’s quite amazing, Billy.”

Levine has his eyes wide and can't speak.

    BILLY
    “Here, you try…”

Of course, Malcolm waves Billy’s offer back to him.

    MACOLM
    “Sorry…Um, Billy. I can’t…could I be alone for a bit?”

    BILLY
    “Ian…I’m so sorry…I didn’t know…”

    MALCOLM
“No, no Billy. You done nothing wrong. Just…don’t worry about it. I’ll be back in a few minutes, okay?”

    BILLY
    “Sure.”

On the way out of the tent, an unknown person approaches Malcolm.

    MAN
    “Dr. Ian Malcolm?”

    MALCOLM
“That’s…me. How can I help you?”

    MAN
“Hey Billy, Dr. Levine. Oh. Dr. Malcolm, my name is Paul Kirby, Kirby Enterprises.”

    MALCOLM
“And how can I help you, Mr. Kirby?”

    PAUL
“It may take a bit to talk about it…so I was curious if you wouldn’t mind to have dinner with my wife and I tonight at Hell Creek Bar and Grill.”

    MALCOLM
    “That’s a generous offer Mr. Kirby, but I’m a very busy man…”

    PAUL
“It will be my treat! Dr. Malcolm, it is very imperative to me that you take this offer.”

    MALCOLM
    “I…I really don’t…”

    Billy interrupts the conversations.

    BILLY
“Sure, we’ll go. All three of us.”

Malcolm gives Billy an odd look. Levine looks confused.

    PAUL
“Great. See you guys tonight at 8:30 P.M.?”

    BILLY
    “Sounds fine. Right Ian?”

    MALCOLM
“I suppose it wouldn’t hurt. Thank you Mr. Kirby.”

    PAUL
“Thank you. See you later. Non smoking section.”
