    Jurassic Congo Novel Chapter 4
    By Vito Hardy

The First Configuration was supposed to accure after the Prologue so here it is:

    FIRST CONFIGURATION

"These early drawings identify an unknown factor to all of the interested parties. An investigation is in the works."

    IAN MALCOLM

The Second Configuration was supposed to accure after the last chapter posted where Dr. Hunter Melton was introduced:

    SECOND CONFIGURATION

"The drawings state a future danger for the curious of the story. New chaos is to be feared for the life of one."

    IAN MALCOLM

    THE GRANTS

The sun was shining down on the Montana National Musseum as a black Corvette pulled up to the building. There was a load of press outside the building with cameras flashing everywhere.
The door on the driver's side of the vehicle opened to revile a tall light grey haired man wearing a dark brown fedora and plaid long sleaved tee-shirt. The man pushed his way through the press toward the passenger door. He then opened the door and aloud a younger and very beautiful blond haired woman got out of the car. She smiled as the man took her hand and they both moved toward the musseum enterance paving through the sea of press members that were frequently asking the two questions or taking photographs.
This couple were well renowned Paleontologist Alan Grant and Paleobotanist Ellie Grant. The two had been married for two long and wonderful years.
Before Ellie and Grant had married, Ellie was married to a Physicist named Mark Remain. However, he tragically died on the dinosaur infested island known as Isla Sorna.
Since then Ellie has been trying to put her life back together as well to giver her children a dad. This dad however seemed even more nice and charming then Mark had ever been to her. Yeah there was still an occassional fight between them, but who doesn't have fights when in a relationship? Even best friends have fights about things like girlfriends and not seeing each other often. However, Alan seemed like a different person to her. Charlie and B'Elanna had always loved him and seemed to never even realize that their original dad had died. That may have because they were so young when he did. They eventually just came to know Grant as their dad and the four have lived happily for a very long time since.
Alan Grant had never thought in his life that he'd become a husband again. After losing Julie all those years ago because of her death he was sure that no one would ever marry him again. Expecially Ellie Sattler.
They had tried dating after the incident at Jurassic Park, but eventually realized that it wouldn't work out. However, fait gave them another chance at happiness after once again another Jurassic Park incident. This time they fell more in love then anyone could have ever dreamed of.
This love was the strongest bond that any relationship could hope to have, and the Grant's loved having it. Although Ellie and Grant have yet to have kids of their own Ellie was expecting one very soon.

The two love birds walked into the Musseum leaving the press behind to deal with the security guards at the front enterance keeping them from entering the building. They continued forward toward a large meeting room with several art lovers and scientists seated in chairs in front of a stage with a podium. Alan Grant was about to make a very interesting speach about the wonderful devices that he'd been developing for quite some time now.
Technology was a constant changing body of water that everyone wanted a piece at, and it seemed that Paleontology was now getting it's full piece of the pie. Since InGen created Jurassic Park there had been little Paleontological funding or interest. However, after Isla Sorna was finally destroyed and people got over their protests of the animals rights to live people finally got back involved in dinosaurs and the Grant's finally came up with a great idea. Since they'd both survived two Jurassic Park incidents, they knew very much about dinosaurs and InGen's monsters, so they decided to put both together in a technological advancement, putting machine into the area of dinosaurs by creating robotic dinosaurs based apon the InGen dinosaurs. This was able to keep the protesting from getting out of hand and eventually it all stoped.
The Grant's walked up the stage and Ellie sat down behind the podium while Grant went to stand at it. The very nervous Paleontologist cleared his throat and began to give a short speech to his audiance.
"Good morning ladies and gentlemen," Grant began smiling out at all of the faces in the room. "On this date, two years and three months ago, the island everyone knew as Isla Sorna was destroyed. Now after those events riots were held in all areas of Costa Rica as well as several deadly ones here in the U.S. which caused the deaths of hundreds. Why did all of this accur you may ask? The reason is because the Humain Society were angered at the U.S. and Costa Rican governments for destroying the island and killing all of the creatures on it."
Grant took at a pause looking out at all of the people in the audiance. He was about to get to the point of this speech. His palms were sweeting from all of the nervousness inside him, but he held that back as he continued on.
"After all of the riots I decided to end all of it in a way that would stop all of this fighting and make everyone happy. Seeing as which my lovely wife and myself have both survived two Jurassic Park incidents and the little feasco in San Diego, we both know more about those animals then most people could ever hope to know. My conclusion to all of this fighting and to bring peace to the U.S. and Costa Rica again was Technology."
Technology was a constantly changing body of water when it came to anything. All of the advancements that had accured in the past several years were amazing. Think of the computer. Computers had made people's lives more fun and easy then they could ever feel possible. The internet was another example. Talk about a way to reach out and touch someone or something. The internet was a very amazing advancement bringing people closer to finding out about things that they really wanted to know about. The advancement that the Grant's were talking about however was more robotic then anything else.
"Now we here at the Montana National Musseum of Fine Arts, have created something that before would seem impossible. Ellie and myself have taken our knowledge of the InGen dinosaurs and created a robotic expedition that will make you feel like you are actually on Isla Sorna or Nublar. We have two different exibits for each of the former islands. The robotic animals are spread out through the musseum so that everyone may enjoy what the animals bring to you. I can take questions now."
A hand raised in the room. "Have you got all of the known species here and ready to go or have there been snags in the making of the robotics?"
Grant nodded. "We have had several problems with our Dilophosaurus robots. They have been giving us lots of trouble."
"Will they be able to join the exibit before it actually opens," asked the reporter.
"We're hoping so, but with the way things are going I'm begining to dought it. Are there any more questions?"
Several more hands in the room raised and Grant sighed saddly.

The meeting concluded and all of the reporters left the musseum very excited over what they'd just heard in the briefing room. Grant and Ellie walked out of the room and started toward the control room talking amongst themselves very quietly, almost wispering how most lovebirds do.
"Dr. Grant!," came a loud voice behind the couple.
Grant and Ellie turned around to see Dr. Hunter Melton running toward them.
"Yes, Dr. Melton, what is it," Grant replied.
"Sir, the Dilophosaurs continue to act up," Hunter replied. "My team and I are having absolutely no luck with those robots. I'm afraid that you're going to have to get some more specialized people to-"
"Absolutely not," Grant yelled. "I'm not using more money from this musseum to get more workers just for those damn spitters! I'll put Billy on the team, but I'm not hiring more hands!"
"I'm not working with Dr. Brennan," Hunter yelled. "Just forget I bothered!" Hunter then ran off away from the Grant's with Grant yelling Hunter's name as he ran.

Hunter slammed the door to the control room and went over to his chair and pounded his fist into the mother board computer table. He screamed bloody murder for a very long minute as he thought over how big of a jackass Alan Grant was. Hunter had never got the chance to do what he really loved. Instead of being out in the field where a Paleontologist belonged, he was stuck in a stupid musseum trying to work on a bunch of damn robots!
Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Being so frustrated Hunter threw a large stack of papers at the door. "Go away!"
"I'm very sorry sir," a man at the other end of the door replied. "I'm with Cowen, Swain, and Ross. My name is Donald Gennaro and I'd like to discuss something with you."
"Leave me alone," Hunter yelled throwing more papers at the door before he sat down at his chair and put his head down on the table.
The door to the room suddenly opened and Donald Gennaro stepped through feeling really out of place when he saw the mess in the floor and the man with his head down on the table.
"Dr. Melton," Gennaro asked leaning over the man's shoulder. "Dr. Melton!"
This startled Hunter and he leaned up staring at the strange man before him. "What do you want?"
"I know what you've been through," replied Gennaro. "You're not wanting to spend the rest of your life locked up in this musseum. You want to get out on the field where you'll actually be doing what you spend years in college learning how to do."
Hunter lightens up and even smiles at this man's query. He wonders what he could possibly want him to do. "That's exactly what I have been wanting. What do you have in mind?"
"I'm going on an expedition into the Congo to study something that very well may be of interest to you."
"What could be in the Congo that would be of interest of a Paleontologist."
"I won't beat around the bush," Gennaro sighed. "We're going to investigate a possible third InGen dinosaur breeding site that may be in that region."
"Are you serious," Hunter asked amazed. Could it be possible that he was finally going to get to see the real breathing things that he'd heard so little about from the Grants? He thought it was a dream come true. This would also finally get him away from the hell hole that he was stuck in.
Gennaro smiled a devilish type smile that didn't seem visible to Hunter. "I'm completely serious. This is your chance to enjoy doig what you like to do. Will you join me?"
Hunter jumped up smiling and hugged the man. This surprized Gennaro and almost made him fall. "I'm so glad that you're willing to join."
"I bet I'm happy," Hunter replied excitedly. "I can't wait to get started! When do we leave?"
"We can get started right now," Gennaro replied. "I'd actually prefere that we leave now cause I don't believe that the Grants really want me here."
Hunter chuckled. "Oh believe me, they don't want anyone around."
"Seriously, I'm not one of the greatest people to the Grants. I'm the one that got them involved with having to go to Jurassic Park all those years ago. I don't believe they'll be thrilled to see me."
"Then we must go," Hunter replied. "You shouldn't be back here anyway. This is an employee only area."
"I understand," Gennaro smiled. "Let's go then. We have a long and excruciating expedition ahead of us."
Gennaro and Hunter both walked out of the room together and toward the exit.

    ****

Donald Gennaro walked outside the Musseum with Hunter Melton right behind him. The press memebers were all still surrounding the building waiting for the Grants to come out. The two men had to push their way through all of the people quickly so they could leave the area. Gennaro looked back at the boy he had just invited along on the trip. He was kind of afraid in inviting this young Paleontologist along on this trip instead of a more well trained one. However, he needed youth in the group that had the newest and most advanced education, and this boy seemed to have what he needed.
Suddenly a loud explosion that sounded like a gun going off sprang throughout the crowd as everyone realized the horrifying sound and started screaming and running away from the area. Things were going to Chaos quickly and Hunter found himself standing alone. The lawyer was no where to be seen.
Then the young scientist spotted him with horror. The bullet had hit Gennaro and he was lying on the ground bleeding to death.
Hunter ran over to him and started trying to help him, but was stoped by Gennaro how pushed him away.
"No," Gennaro yelled. "It's too late for me! You must go and complete the mission! It's now become more imparitive that the expedition is made! Find Karen Ross and finish creating the team! You'll need Ian Malcolm and Alexis Murphy to complete your team now! Without me you'll need two good JP survivors and they'll be the best! Go my son, and good luck!"
Hunter ran off away from the area making his way past the other people running around. He turned around only once in a way as in saying goodbye to the man that may have just changed his life. Hunter continued onward never looking back again, afraid that he'd get shot himself. He had to find this Karen Ross. He had to find the other two people. There was no alternative now. Something was deffinetely wrong, or no one would've shot the lawyer. Hunter's destiny was now to make that man's death not in vain. He had to do this for Gennaro and that was all he could think about as he continued running away from the Musseum and his past that would now be long forgotten.

    ****

Donald Gennaro was lying near the Musseum trying to stop himself from lossing more blood. He was mainly panicking now that he was alone. This silence that he only heard was scary, for seconds before there were people everywhere and they were all screaming. Now all their was, was complete utter silence.
Suddenly a man started walking forward wearing a dark black suit. He seemed like an overweight man, and he was very old using a cane to get around. He stops infront of Gennaro and they both stare at each other.
"Your little expedition is pointless, Mr. Gennaro. Your team will soon be dealt with, and you won't see the light of another day."
"Who are you,"Gennaro asked. "Why are you trying to stop this expedition?"
The man began laughing. "Well the reason I'm stoping this expedition is because there are things in the Congo that you couldn't even ever explain."
"What about your name," Gennaro asked angerly.
The man laughed again and raised a revolver up to Gennaro's head. "Since you're going to die anyway, I'll tell you. My name is R. B. Travis of E.R.T.S."
The gun shot rang throughout the area as darkness rang over the final seconds of Donald Gennaro's life.
