    Jurassic Congo Novel Chapter 3
    By Vito Hardy

    TROUBLES IN MECHANICS

The dilophosaur stood eight feet tall with twin crests on it's head. The animal was green and had very sharp teeth. The dilo was searching and hunting something in the clearing from the bushes. There was a small rat in the field walking around looking for food itself. The attack came sudden, the dilo leaped from the bushes right on the rodent and bent down to bit into the animal as it screamed but then stoped as the motor in the dilo began to break down and stop with sparks of electricity going everywhere.
Dr. Hunter Melton stood behind the glass sighing and cursing under his breath. Once again the mechanisims were faulty. He couldn't understand what the problem was. All of the systems checked out with the specialists and the parts were put together correctly. He just couldn't understand what was wrong. His whole team were working non-stop, day through night, and still there was no real solution to the problems that they were facing.
Hunter Melton was a 24 year old Paleontologist just out of college and still was having trouble in getting his own dig site. He had been working at the Montana Musseum for the past few months trying to get in the good graces of the "Main Man" for that long and was still having problems. He was always counting on his apprentice, Billy Brennan was the only person that the man seemed to want to deal with and help and he was still in college for crying out loud! If he didn't already know that the man was married he'd thought that he and Billy had a little something going on during off hours.
Hunter shook that thought away and pushed an entercom button on the keyboard infront of him. "Chelsea, the mechine failed again. Would you please come up here?"
Hunter sighed and pulled his head down placing his arms over it. He couldn't believe what he was being put through. These stupid machines didn't even look like Dilophosaurs, or at least the dilos that he learned about in College. These animals were green for one thing. He'd always imagined that they were a redish brown. However that was the least of the problems. The stupid animal had a colorful fan that would pop out of it's neck and it could fucking spit! Who had ever heard of a spitting dinosaur? The fact was that this machine didn't want to work correctly. His boss would be there in an hour and he still had nothing to show for his work. The reason that he had was always that he didn't know how to work these machines. His boss then made him take night classes so he could understand everything. Hunter had grown to hate his boss and wanted to strangle him every time he'd seen him.
Suddenly Chelsea Bowers stepped into the door rushing up to Hunter to see what the problem was. She began to shake the man back to life. Hunter sat back up and looked at Chelsea sadly. "Is this hell ever going to end?"
Chelsea smiled. "I don't know sir. Don't worry, I'm sure we'll eventually figure all this out."
Hunter stood and went over to the door and began banging his head into it. Chelsea ran over and pulled him away from the door and brought him back over to his chair and sat the man back down. She could see that he was now crying. The man was falling apart right infront of her. This had never happened to Hunter before that she could remember. The man had always had a happy life and it got better everyday, untill he got out of College she had heard from him later. He was married, but yet he'd never told her about it or anything else really. All she'd heard was that he was having a good life with the one he was married to. The odd thing about it was that she had looked up his past history and had found nothing on a Hunter Melton. It was so odd. It was like he'd changed his last name to something else. When she'd confronted him with this info he just laughed and turned away. To this day she barely know anything about him and now he was coming apart.
"I can't take this any more Chelsea," Hunter practically almost screamed. "What does this man want from me? Why do I have to do all of this non-sense that has nothing to do with Paleontology?" Hunter fell onto the floor and weeped even more.
Chelsea sighed. "Would you calm down? The boss will be here any minute. You don't want him to see you like this. Come on and get up."
"You're right," Hunter said catching his breath. "I'm going to the rest room. Warn me when the boss has arived."
"Sure," Chelsea replied as she walked out of the room. Hunter looked back at the mechanical dilophosaur and sighed. What in the world was he going to tell the boss when he arrived. This was all just not working out at all for him and he was so afraid for his future as a Paleontologist.
Suddenly a voice broke over the entercom which sounded like Chelsea's voice. "May I have your attention please," The voice echoed through the building. "Would all personal please report to the front enterance? Dr. Grant and his wife have arrived."
Hunter Melton suddenly felt fear increase in his body as he started for the door as well as nervousness. He was so afraid right now that he didn't know what to do. Dr. Grant would surely kill him for not having the dilo finished. Still, he walked out of the control room and into the hallway toward his destiny.
