Age of the Dinosaurs chapter 8
    By Velaciraptor

Loner and his new friend Scarredback ran smoothly through the jungle, hunting. Scarredback and Loner started walking slowly, quietly. They smelled meat and then saw it. It was a Triceratops, about a few months old.

Loner and his friend crouched low behind the bushes, eyeing its one guardian. Father must have died or something Loner thought to himself. The female wandered off, looking for new shrubs to eat. The young one was banging his head against a tree, for some odd reason. Loner hissed, waiting for the mother to get out of the clearing so they could attack the young one.

The mother stopped and nibbled on some grass, disliking it she wandered out of the clearing and Loner and Scarredback jumped on a tree branch and got in pouncing position. The baby stopped banging his head and tugged at a flower. Loner pounced and landed on his back and Scarredback landed on its head. The baby was in a frenzy about now, swinging its head up and down, right and left and running around in a circle. It tripped over a tree root and landed on its side.

Scarredback clamped her jaws over its throat while Loner thrashed at its soft belly. They started eating it when they heard the mother returning and left only a carcass of her baby, with just a little meat on it. This is what they did for about a year.

    (year later)

Loner and Scarredback were walking side by side, stopping every once in a while to smell the air for meat. It was dark and most of the dinosaurs were sleeping. The two Raptors were hunting. Loner hopped on a rock, sniffing the air and Scarredback hissed. "Do you smell that?" she asked him. Loner growled hungrily and answered, "Yes I do." Pachycepholosaurus.

Loner and his friend ran through the jungle, not making a sound and not cracking any twigs. They came to a clearing and they both crouched behind the bushes. It was a young Pachy, head butting a tree. "It looks retarded doing that," Scarredback whispered. Loner quieted her and jumped into the clearing screeching in hunger, Scarredback following.

The Pachy grunted in surprise and lowered his head toward the attackers. The two hunters stood hissing at the Pachy, who made the first move. It ran at Loner, who jumped up and landed on its prey's back. Scarredback waited until she was needed.

The Pachy turned sharply, almost throwing Loner off but he held on, digging his claws into the Pachys back and lowering his deadly jaws to the throat. The Pachy butted a tree in anger. He was about to go in the trees when Scarredback stepped in the way and slashed its throat. Blood seeped out and the Pachy rested, and Loner clamped his jaws over the throat.

The Pachy soon suffocated and collapsed on the jungle floor, dead and the two hungry hunters ate their meal. There was a rustle in the trees. Something else smelled the meat the two Raptors have gotten and were not eating. A hungry Allosaurus stepped out and growled, eyeing the Pachy.

Loner hissed at him, raising his claws and Scarredback did the same. Another Allosaurus stepped out and roared. The two Raptors stopped hissing and backed away, hissing angerly and ran off through the jungle. One of the Allosaurus ran after them, hungry, and the Pachy was not enough since there was almost nothing left.

"One of them are following us!" Loner hissed. Scarredback just nodded. "Let's attack. The other one probably lumbered off somewhere or finished off the Pachy, THEN went somewhere else." The Allosaurus roared and saw the two fleeing Raptors. Then suddenly, they both turned around and ran right at him.

Loner jumped up onto a tree branch, jumped again and landed on the snout of the Allosaurus. Scarredback landed on its back. Both Raptors began clawing with all their claws, and began biting and tearing flesh with their jaws and sharp teeth. The Allosaurus roared in pain and tried to get one of the Raptors but failed.

Just then two more Raptors came from the forest, hearing the battle they went to investigate. One jumped up and clawed its stomach, and the other jumped on its neck, reached down, and clawed at its throat. In no time the Allosaurus gave up and just fell down, giving the four Raptors food for the night.

When Scarredback and Loner were finished with their fill, they ran off through the trees. They ran for about a mile and found a cave to stay the night.
