About five hours later the only egg left started wiggling and cracks were heard. Then cracks showed up on the shell. A snout poked through the shell and it squeaked lightly and the tail, arms and hind legs and neck came out. It wiggled the rest of the way out of its shell and toppled onto one of the trampled shells. It looked around.
A dead (squashed) bug lay by his side and he sniffed then and then ate it. He will have to learn to hunt on his own. He tried to stand up but fell down about one step. It was cold out and hungry predators were out hunting.
He got deeper into the nest and slept, helpless and mainly hungry. He finally fell asleep. About an hour later he heard a crack of a twig braking and then a hiss. A Velociraptor stepped out into the nesting ground and sniffed at a nest that was close to the baby Raptor, possibly her nest. He squawked and the Raptor looked up and cocked her head to the side and walked to the baby.
She sniffed him and then picked him up and ran back into the brush. Another Velociraptor waited for her in a small clearing. He didn’t see the baby Raptor in her mouth and said, “Were there any survivors?” The first Raptor dropped the baby and said, “Only one. This young one. Newly hatched. And only one survivor because of that stupid pack you hunted in and drove that stampede here!” The second hissed. “Don’t blame everything on the males!” “We’ll have to adopt him,” the first one said, ignoring what the second said.
She turned to the baby. “My name is Crystal. And that other moron Raptor is Claw.” Claw snorted angrily. “And I’ll name you…”she paused thinking and then said, “Loner.”
