In Crichton's TLW novel, a supporting character near the beginning of the story is named 'John Roxton' -- an homage to a character who appears in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic 'The Lost World'. (From: 'Ankylosaurus')

    TinCanSam vs The Man
    By TinCanSam

    The man.

He's out there. He knows who you are. He has his men ready for the kill. I'm here to stop him.

    ~The docks - Night~

Sam glared down on the docks, trying to find a clue as to the current whereabouts of The Man. He took a glance at the water. A boat was on its way. It had to be him. It had to be...The Man.

The Man...Boss Dodge as he is known to some, was indeed on the boat. He felt quite comfortable with his life of crime. He had Ninjas, gunmen secret service men unlimeted. The boat slowly arrived at the docks, and he readied his staff to help him walk off to land. His left leg had been injured in a previous battle with TinCanSam. He had named the guy 'TinCan' as he was prone to using armor made of tin...at least he thought. It was a special armor built to protect the guy from attacks. The boat stopped and he walked out.

TinCanSam took a glance through his binoculars and smiled. He readied himself as he jumped down to the street that was to the side of the building he was sitting on. He took a walk to his bike, and readied for battle. He saw them walking toward their own bikes and drove off.
