TRIUMVIRATE SE Deleted Scene 3

Here’s a scene from Gemini’s Redemption, almost verbatim. It
was intended to develop the President’s character and
establish that his address was coming up. I’ve briefly
established this earlier in the new version, and this scene,
so short, does little to add to the President’s character
save to make him look like a bigger buffoon than he is. It’s
only other function, to break up two scenes involving the
Black Aces, wasn’t sufficient justification for keeping it
in.
INT. PRESIDENT’S OFFICE -- DUSK
The President nervously paces the width of his office. He
murmurs to himself, mouthing a practiced speech over and
over again. He looks briefly out the window toward the dim
red sun sinking beneath the horizon, painting the city in
vivid shades of magenta, then begins to pace again, shaking
his head, his knuckles white, his nails bitten to the quick.
He moves fleetly to his desk, presses a button and speaks to
his secretary.
THE PRESIDENT
Uh, Joyce, could you—
There’s a pause.
SECRETARY (V.O)
Could I what?
THE PRESIDENT
Never mind.
SECRETARY (V.O)
Are you sure, sir?
THE PRESIDENT
Yes, Joyce. No, wait – are my
final draft speech notes ready
yet?
SECRETARY (V.O)
Have been for an hour, sir. I told
you when they were complete.
THE PRESIDENT
Oh, right. Can you transfer them
in here, please?
SECRETARY (V.O)
I already did.
THE PRESIDENT
Oh. All right, thank you, Joyce.
There is a beep as the line closes. The President stands by
his desk staring at nothing in particular for a moment,
slowing his breathing. Then he resumes pacing.
