TRIUMVIRATE SE Abandoned Ideas Part 1
    By The Host

    ROCKS ALONG THE WAY
    Predecessors to Triumvirate (Part I)

The following is a log of plot descriptions over the past ten years. This first section deals with the earliest ideas, back when the story was called 'One Against the World' and then 'Gemini: Rebellion'.

Circa 1994 (as recalled almost ten years later):

    ONE AGAINST THE WORLD

Jack Davies and his friend Robert Johnson stumble upon a government secret. Johnson is murdered for his knowledge; Davies discovers that the nearby land of Al T’Har is also under attack because it has discovered the truth. Davies blasts his way out of the station and travels to Al T’Har, where he imparts some of his wisdom and departs with a new flight group (commanded by Hawk Macy) whose mission is to raise a rebellion. They run into a fleet commanded by Admiral Pelley and it seems to be curtains for our heroes. Then General Dawson arrives to reinforce Pelley – and instead attacks his ally! Dawson joins Davies and the others and together they go to Delrian with the intent of convincing the Delrians to join in their struggle. As negotiations begin, the USS attacks Delrian – Delrian hastily agrees to join the rebels. The USS is, however, joined suddenly by Al T’Har – turns out Al T’Har was in on this from the beginning, and the real goal all along was to goad Delrian into war. Meanwhile, another nation, the Cat’thu, have joined forces with the USS as well. But suddenly aliens arrive and start attacking the USS, driving that coalition away. Dawson, Davies, and the Delrians then travel to Earth where there’s a final battle and the USS is defeated. Aliens then arrive and make peace with the heroes. The end.

Circa 1996 (as written at the time):

    THE GEMINI TRILOGY:

    GEMINI: REBELLION

A prototype for a revolutionary new spacecraft mysteriously disappears on its maiden voyage.

Fifty years later, a rebellion is rising against the newly-formed Human Alliance, and a deadly disease is sweeping across the outer planets of the galaxy. And the only known cure has just been destroyed in an unfortunate “accident”...

[Reminisced seven years later: A backstory is added: the USS created a revolutionary new starship Gemini whose job it was to take delivery of a disease; the ship was then destroyed, and the disease was developed as a weapon called the ‘Gemini Strain’. It was unleashed upon Al T’Har as a test, but Al T’Har discovered a cure. It has been accidentally destroyed by the USS, but Davies and Johnson were been taken prisoner by the Al T’Harans and shown the truth. Sound familiar? The rest of the story proceeds like the one above, ending with the battle over Delrian. Also, it is revealed that Dawson had been involved with project Gemini, and he actually has another prototype of the Gemini starship, which the rebels use to their advantage.]

    ONE AGAINST THE WORLD

Rebellion is sweeping across the galaxy like a tidal wave. But the Alliance has a new weapon, and the seat of their empire has been moved to a hidden location.

Even with their new allies, the rebels still find themselves one against the world...

[Reminisced seven years later: The second half of the older story. The Alliance unleashes the disease upon the world. Two new characters join the cast – a young Delrian mercenary and a Han Solo type from Al T’Har. Johnson and Davies are reunited – Johnson wasn’t actually killed, but managed to escape his tormentors. It ends with the Alliance defeated. Willem Boyd, one of the Al T’Harans, takes control of the new United Star Systems.]

    GEMINI: GREATER CAUSE

The rebels have won the war, but the Alliance was able to strike one final, devastating blow. Now the New Alliance must infiltrate the heart of an enemy empire just so they can survive.

And there are rumors that the old order is quietly being restored...

[Reminisced seven years later: It’s revealed that aliens had been in cahoots with the Alliance leadership to unleash this disease – Alliance leaders accepted immunity from the disease but sold out the rest of humanity. Now the only cure lies in the alien empire. Some minor characters from the first two films become major characters here, and another new character is introduced – Commander Hudsen, Dawson’s best friend. Dawson dies early in; Davies and Johnson remain behind on earth where Steve is being slowly corrupted by the counter-revolutionary underground. In the end the cure is taken, the heroes return to find Davies and Johnson captured and Steve turned evil, there is a final battle where Hudsen saves the day, Johnson is killed, and the disease is spread to the aliens who are now deprived of their cure. The End.]
