    Return to Nublar :part VIII
    By SpinoSlayer

-Back on the way to the visitor's center-

The expedition seemed to shrink every few hours. From twenty-two men they had lost five and feared more at the boat. There seemed to be no hope. There were carnivores running the island, and attacking the boat they came in.

Then the group rounded a bend and saw a ghastly sight. In a clearing they saw the bleached white bones of the T-rex lay along the river. The lower body was on it's side, legs and tail spread out inbetween some trees. The ribcage lay dislocated from the hips on its side in the sandy bank. The huge skull, still bearing the teeth, was partially submerged in some mud.

The expedition took to grave robbing, seeing as a piece of a two year old tyrannosaurus rex skeleton would fetch big bucks. Some took out pocket knives to get the teeth or claws.

Ryan was still cautious. Even though the biggest carnivore on the island was dead he feared the metricanthosaurus or dilophosaurs would follow them.

He knew about Isla Sorna, 'site B', the island breeding grounds of the dinosaurs, unlike most of the other men. He had been given a tip that there were more dinosaurs loose than InGen had previoulsy released. He had heard about pterannodons and water preditors that had escaped the cages on Sorna and went to the other islands in the 'five deaths.' He even recalled silent conversations about something called 'DX', and how if it reached the mainland it would be catastrophic.

While the hunters and workers pocketed some loose fragments of bone a strange cry was heard somewhere above them.

    'What the hell was that?'

    'I don't know!'

'It sounded like a huge bird!'

'Oh shit!' responded Mark Phillips. 'It's up there! Look!'

Above them a shadow went through the treetops at great speed. A loud flapping sound was heard.

    'Into the trees!' someone yelled.

In the clearing they saw a pterannodon land by the T-rex bones. It studied them by prodding its beak into crevaces. It settled down by the river, which was ten or twevle feet deep here, crystal clear, and had a gentle sandy four-foot bank. The huge bird crawled on its feet and claws with its wings sticking up into the air. It drank and did not seem to notice them, or it did not care...

    -Back at the boat-

It had been nearly two hours since the dilophosaurs had gotten on the boat. The two had stopped eating the unfortunate man and the other had gone above deck, probably as a lookout.

Henry and the two other men ate some ice cream sandwiches and just talked. The did not seem to care that they were locked in a food locker and it was cold. They had ice cream sandwiches! Loads of them!

    -Outside the boat-

Carlos, Seth, and the men saw a dilophosaur perched on the deck, almost as a lookout. They quickly ran to the edge of the boat, where they hoped the dino would not see them.

'I have an idea. Give me your gun.' said the red-headed Irish man.

He juggle to hold his rifle and put his fists to his mouth, yet keeping his rifle ready to shoot.

'Damn it! Carlos, you take the rifle.'

'What are you going to do?'

'I saw it in a movie once. Just shoot the dinosaur when I tell you to.'

The Irish man put his fists to his mouth and make a very loud duck call. The dilophosaur stuck its head over deck in a very 'what the hell' kind of way. He (actually she) looked down and saw them, she opened her mouth as to call her mates.

    'Now!'

A single shot rang out, echoed by the hull of the ship. The dilo leaned out over the deck of the ship, (with a large piece missing from her head) rolled, and fell onto the pier and splashing in the water.

'Nice shot Carlos!' said the Irish man.

'You saw it in a movie, huh?' he replied.

The team entered the ship and went towards the back and stopped in a narrow hallway. The wall was covered in blood and mixed with black poison globs. They followed a streak of blood on the ground, where they figured a man was dragged. They went through more halls looking only at the bloody floor.

They finally rounded a bend to where the food locker was and they saw two large, pissed off dilos looking at them above a hollowed out corpse. They didn't have time to open their frills before the men shot them. The team didn't even aim, they just opened fire into the hallway.

The two dilos fell to the ground without a grunt. The team opened the door to find three scientists and many ice cream sandwich wrappers on the ground.

Wu just wiped ice cream off his lips with his shirt and said, 'You want some?'
