    Modern Day Devils - P9
    By Snake - Mark

    Sweat dripped over the teen’s forehead, his body hanging half off the bed. His eyes twitched as his mind raced through countless thoughts. Everything that occurred at the start of this new discovery entered his mind, and left just as quickly, only to be replaced with another thought that caused the teen to twinge in his sleep.

    With a low click, the alarm clock sitting on top of a small rectangular table set next to his bed went off, the annoying, rhythmic, incessant buzzing blaring throughout the room. Mark’s eye shot open as he fell the rest of the way out of bed. His body hit the floor with a thud, and he lay there for a moment as the blanket and sheet that covered him on the bed fell to the floor with him.

    Mark reached his tired hand up to the clock and started poking it, searching for the sleep button. Unable to find it, he dropped his hand back down to the floor and towards a wall outlet. Plugged into the wall outlet were two plugs, one black the other white. Without looking, Mark took the black wire into his hands and pulled on it forcefully, causing the clock to die. Due to the force of his pull, the clocks cord lost slack, causing the clock to be pulled from off the table and onto the teen’s matted head. A grunt escaped his lips and he brought his hand up to his head, rubbing it as he stood up slowly.

    The sun was shining brightly through the window, sending a glare off of the silver watch that rested on a television stand set underneath the window. Mark stumbled his way to the watch and check the time, rubbing his eyes to make sure he was reading the dials right.

    “Fuck!” He threw down his watch and ran to the closet, slamming the door open and pulling out the first outfit he could find.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    “Pleasure you could join us on this mighty fine school day.” Hemphry Teesel, the schools Dean of Students. His smile was crooked, and the only time his teeth showed was when he was giving out a day of detention, or something of the sort. Those were the only times he would have a smile larger than any clown’s. His eyes seemed to sparkle each time he dished out a pink slip, but when the student he was punishing was a girl and started to cry, you saw a whole different side of him. Hemphry had his evil side, but he also had his sensitive side.
    Mr. Teesel is the reason why it paid to be of the female gender in Rocky Point’s High School. It was almost guaranteed you wouldn’t be reprimanded if you were able to shed a few tears. On the other hand, if you were a teenage boy and you decided to show that you were sensitive, it was almost as if you insulted Teesel personally. His face would grow red, his eyes would narrow, and his voice would seem to grow deeper. So, all in all, if you were a guy in school, you were fucked.
    “That’s one detention for you Mister,” Teesel looked up at Mark after signing the small pink form, “well, what’s your name son?”
    “Laurence.” Mark spoke quickly, his eyes giving an expression of sorrow for himself, but his mind laughing slightly. What would one detention mean to him amidst the end of the world?
    “All righty, Mr. Laurence. I’ll look forward to seeing you after school tomorrow.” Teesel handed Mark the pink slip.
    Mark’s mind smiled. He was in a bad mood, so why not bring good ‘ole Mr. Teesel down with him. “I can’t make it tomorrow, sir.”
    “Well why not?” Teesel’s expression was one of disbelief.
    “My mother is a diabetic, sir, and I have to drive her up to the doctor’s office every Tuesday for her shots.” On the outside, Mark looked as if he was going to cry, while on the inside his demonic heart laughed heartily.
    “I thought diabetics gave themselves their own shots?”
    Mark leaned in close to Teesel and whispered, “She doesn’t like needles. It would be almost impossible to get her to stick one into herself.”
    Hemphry closes his eyes briefly as if thinking, and reopened them when he began to speak, “Alright. I’ll see you after school today, then.”
    Mark recoiled from his words as if they personally hurt him. “I’m sorry, Mr. Teesel. I can’t make it today either.”
    “Why can’t you make it today either, Mr. Laurence.”
    “Mark.”
    “I’m sorry?”
    “Mark. My name’s Mark.”
    “Ah, okay.” Teesel rolled his eyes, wondering to himself if the teen thought he actually cared. “So, Mark. Why can’t you make it today?”
    “I have an appointment with the principal.” Mark’s mind raced for only a moment before he came up with a reason why he would meet with the principal.
    “Oh yeah, what about?” Teesel seemed to be laughing deep inside.
    “Well, I know this is one of those matters I don’t have to tell you about, but if it will help you believe me.” Mark kneeled down in front of the table Teesel sat at. He placed his elbow on the table and rested his head upon his hand. “Truthfully Mr. Teesel, I don’t appreciate the way I’ve seen you treat the guys in our school. You treat them like they’re prisoners, or slaves.” Teesel seemed surprised by the teenager’s remark, but he didn’t try to deny the accusations. “I even have teachers willing to back me up on this matter. Yes, yes. We've seen you curse out one or two students.”
    Teesel’s jaw dropped as he searched for words. He knew the teen wasn’t lying (which was wrong, the teen was lying), and if the principal ever caught hold of the information Mark seemed to hold, he could be fired or suspended.
    Noticing the look on Teesel’s face, Mark took the pink slip and held it in front of both their faces. “Now, if you tear this up, sir, I won’t tell him how you comforted that one girl. What was her name again?” Mark looked up to the ceiling as if thinking. “Oh, of course, Becky Bloofery!”
    Almost immediately, Teesel ripped the pink slip from Mark’s hand and tore it into four pieces. His face was red, and sweat dripped down his forehead and onto his brow. Hemphry was at a loss for words, and more-over, he knew he would lose his job.
    Mark smiled to himself and stood, rapping his knuckles gently on the table. “See you around Teese!” The feeling he had now was the greatest feeling he’s had in a while. He wasn’t sure if it were the Angel inside of him, or the Demon, or both, but something was congratulating him for being the only person to stand up to Hemphry Teesel, the school’s oldest bully.
    As Mark made his way down the Social Studies hallway of the school, he was relieved at the fact that the Becky Bloofery rumor was indeed true. Had it not of been, his plan to ruin Teesel’s day completely would not have gone as far as he wished to of.
    Mark stopped in the middle of the hallway and sighed. It was 8:42, which meant he was all ready thirty minutes late for his second period class. Not giving too much of a damn, Mark turned around and started his trek across the school to the math hallway, where his locker (and the lockers of every other senior) was.
