    Despite all the other effects Michael Lantieri had to perform for JP, he considers the "rippling water glass" effect the hardest to figure out. Apparently he asked every sound person he knew before stumbling on the solution. (From: Staindallover2K2)

    Modern Day Devils - Chapter 23
    By Snake - Mark

    >
    This was far from any normal cloud cover; the presence of evil seemed to linger within the black sheet that now hung over the small town. People grew into a state of panic far surpassing the one they were already in. Cars, vans, and trucks alike were packed with the necessities that the fleeing people felt would help them survive in whatever hiding place they would escape to.

    Shortly after the sun vanished, the earth began to quake. A small, continuous earthquake moved throughout the Long Island town, frightening people even more, pushing them to either leave the town faster or throw themselves back into their homes, where they felt a slight feeling of safety. There were those that did not panic, despite the events that were taking place around them. Instead, they sat in their homes and watched or listened to news broadcasts from abroad.

    News reporters from various states, counties, cities, and even countries were reporting the same conditions that were occurring in Rocky Point, New York. Something catastrophic was about to happen, and no matter what anyone thought and said; the collective society that inhabited the small planet of earth knew deep down inside that it would be far worse than the events that overtook the planet in the past few days.

    At precisely 7:11 pm, the ground stopped quaking, and a vast majority of the current survivors continued on with their panicked escape.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Thomas Marshall kicked through the debris of clothing and toiletries that his girlfriend had frantically thrown around as she hurriedly packed to evacuate her own home. He dropped to his hands and knees, his fingers running over the carpeted floor quickly as he searched for the keys to the Chevy Blazer that would take him and Madison Allie to the location of a safe-house that had been repeated over and over again on the public access channel.
    “God… Fuck!” Thomas jumped up from the floor, his hands clenched into a fist. “Where are the fucking keys, Maddy?”
    Madison ran to the doorway of her room, her hair in a disheveled mess. Tears streaked down her cheek, making small streaks in the mat of dirt that almost entirely covered her unclean face.
    “They’re on the table.” Madison stepped away from the doorway momentarily to return with a full set of keys.
    Thomas let out a deep sigh and moved to the doorway, snatching the keys from Madison’s hand. “I hope you’re ready… we’re leaving now.” Thomas grabbed his girlfriend’s hand and, briefly looking into her eyes, kissed her hard. “I’ll get us out of here.”
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Thomas let go of Madison’s hand as he fumbled the keys at the car’s lock. His fingers slipped over the cold metal, the set of keys falling from his hands and to the ground, where the bounced underneath the car. Cursing, he bent down and knelt on the ground, his arm reaching underneath the car as he felt around for the keys.

    “Baby…” Madison’s voice seemed to quiver as she called out to Tom.

    “Give me a second!” Thomas snapped, his arm still beneath the car.

    “You… might want to see this.”
    Grumbling, Thomas pushed himself up from the ground, his head turning towards Madison. “What?”

    Madison lifted her hand, her index finger pointing towards the sky. On her face was a look of utter fear. Tom followed her finger, his eyes settling upon a sight he would never have thought he would see.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The sky had opened up completely; there was no longer any black cloud cover, there wasn’t even a sun or moon. Instead, where there was once complete blackness, there was now shining white light that engulfed the entire sky. The light, although brighter than any light known to man, did not seer the eyes of those that looked at it; rather, the light seemed to invite the eyes of anyone that stared into it.
    Thomas shook his head, for he thought he saw the light break in several places. He saw it again, small breaks in the light that lasted only seconds. To him, it looked as if something was occasionally blocking off small sections of the bright aura. As his eyes started to focus less on the light and more on the rest of the sky, Thomas realized that something was occasionally breaking the light.
    Floating down from the sky at the speed a feather would were objects, all shaped like people. Protruding from what would be the backs of these floating people-figures were what looked to be wings. The sky started be filled by the floating figures.
    “Holy shit.” Thomas dropped to his knees again, then down to his stomach. Once again, he reached around for the keys.
    “Thomas… open the door.” Madison began to panic, her voice quivering. “Please baby, hurry.”
    Letting out a victory grunt, Tom quickly pushed himself to his feet and unlocked the car door. Shoving himself into the car, he unlocked Madison’s door and fumbled the key at the ignition.
    “C’mon baby…” Madison pushed her husband as she climbed into the car. With one foot in the car, Madison began to close the door slowly, allowing her time to slip in her other leg; but before she could lift it into the car, something strong grasped around her thin ankle and pulled her swiftly from the car.
    Thomas’ attention was drawn to the passenger side when his girlfriend’s scream echoed in the car. Startled, he threw the keys onto the floor and reached over to Madison, who was hanging onto the door handle for dear life. Her screams grew louder and more painful as whatever was grasped onto her pulled harder. Thomas reached further and grabbed onto one of Madison’s hands. Feeling his hand grasp hers, Madison looked up to her lover, her eyes pleading as tears streamed down her face.
    Thomas pulled, causing Madison to let out a blood curdling scream before all noises that she made came out as gargles. As blood started to drip out of Madison’s mouth, Thomas’ eyes grew wide. Feeling nothing tugging at the other end of his girlfriend’s body, Thomas pulled once again and found Madison to be considerably lighter. With one last tug, Madison was pulled up into the car, her head landing in Thomas’ lap, her legs detached from her body. Thomas groaned and leaned outside of his car, his stomach churning as he dry heaved.
    “I’m sorry Maddy.” He leaned back into his car, his eyes surveying his mutilated girlfriend. A small tear dripped down his cheek as his fingers brushed through Madison’s hair.
    Lifting his eyes from Madison, Thomas grew fearful of the situation he was in. His mouth grew dry and his pulse raced as his eyes scanned over the area around his car. Where there was once an area full of abandoned vehicles, debris from ransacked homes, and other objects now stood an army that looked far from man-made. The creatures that stood around Thomas were muscular, their body mass out-doing that of any weight lifter he had seen. Their attention was on the sky, where the human-like figures still floated slowly to the ground.
    Thomas looked around frantically, searching for a way out, but found himself to be surrounded by the beasts. With a sigh, he slumped down into his seat. His dead girlfriend still lay in his lap, but with the fait he knew was coming to him, he did not care.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    The army of minions stood their ground in the streets of Rocky Point; grasped in their muscular hands were the large swords that they normally brandished. As they stood still, their attention was directed towards the large army of angels that started to fall from light bearing sky. Small growls emitted from the war-hungry army as the opposing army made their entrance into the mortal realm. Underneath the army, the ground began to quake again, the concrete that had already cracked once to allow the large army to escape their realm cracked once more, the minions moving to make space for whatever hell beasts were to rise.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Mark stepped away from the quartet of hybrids, who had just finished the transformation into the final form. As they got used to their new attributes, Mark’s mind grew cramped with visions of war. His breathing grew heavier as his heart pounded harder within his chest. These were the signs; he knew it had to be. The war has started.
