    Halo: The 4 Arrows ch.7
    By Skidmarkz

The base creaked from the wind for all 3 hours that they waited for the rescue team. Finally a radio transmission came through that said they were blasting the doors down and coming in. "Why do they have to break the doors down?" asked Skidami. A soldier next to him replied, "They're in lock down mode, the base shelter was designed for flood invasion, and we figured if we ever got in here, we wouldn't need to open them again..." Skidami figured the rest out for himself. "Everyone stand back!" shouted the squad leader. BOOOM! The explosion lit up the room. The doors flew back against the back wall in pieces. "OKAY! Everybody out!" Everyone moved out into the sunlight. It was so bright out, and the temperature had risen to atleast 90 degrees. Everyone put on their coolant jackets, since it looked to be about 11:00, which meant it was going to get hotter.
They walked for about a mile to get to the drop ship. Everyone was loaded in about 5 minutes. The take off was smooth, and soon they were in mid air, slowly progressing to the atmosphere. Skidami looked out a window to his left. The planet looked so barren, empty, and...yes empty, where had the bodies gone? Then he remembered the storm, they were probably scattered hundreds of miles away by now. He remembered the fighting around him, the dying, and screaming. He remembered the pain when he was stabbed, the flood taking a chunk out of his side. But most of all, he remembered the fellow soldier, no, fellow FRIEND that was killed in battle. The friend that he himself had to shoot. As he thought he slowly began to close his eyes, and fell asleep.

Skidami awoke as they were pulling into the loading bay of the base ship. When they landed everyone unloaded into the bay. Dontan spoke, "Feel free to rest up in your quarters, I will notify you all if anything happens. Good job." Skidami went over to Dontan. "Hello" he said. Dontan replied, "Ah! Skidami! So good to see you!" then he whispered, "I know what happened down there, don't worry about it, it happens, and war is hard. You had to do what you did." Skidami replied back,"Noone should die like that. Not even if someone shoots them before they're eaten alive!" Dontan put his hand on his shoulder, "You were brave down there, you did the right thing. Don't ever, EVER forget that."
Skidami went to the dining hall, he wasn't that tired since he slept on the trip over. But he was extremely hungry. He ate a couple plates of gorhog meat, and some fruit. After about 15 minutes of eating and drinking, he went to his room and slept. It had been a very, very long couple of days.

"Hmmmm...it appears the space fleet reinforcements will arrive ahead of schedule in 3 days." said Dontan to Gofin back in the Battle bridge. "And what do you think we should do with them this time, we all remember what happened last time." he replied. Dontan said back, "I think we'll use them, harder than ever, but a suprise attack. Yes, a suprise attack, right on the mother ship." Flak-su interupted," Dontan! That's insane! how do you expect to get into the middle of their fleet to the mother ship! Assuming it's possible!" Dontan paused for a moment. Then he held up a giant crystal imbedded in a cloaking generator. "With this"
The cloaking generator was duplicated 5 more times, making 6 generators. There would be a generator in each group. And there was 200 ships per group, making 1200 ships. Things looked like they were going well. Skidami got a call in his room to meet the generals in the battle bridge asap. He left immediately for the bridge. 5 minutes later and 3 floors higher, he arrived. "What's this about?" Skidami asked. Dontan started,"Skidami, what we're about to tell you may be a little heavy, you might want to sit down". Skidami replied, "I'm fine, thanks." Halan explained, "In the last battle on the planet, the Arrow S.E.A.L.s commander was killed. Now, after looking over your fighting and leadership skills, and the ability to keep cool under pressure has led us to decide that you are going to be the temporary commander for this mission."
Dontan was right, Skidami did need to sit down. "But why do we need the Arrow S.E.A.L.s? I thought it was going to be a space battle?" he asked. Gofin replied, "Technically it still is, for the beginning anyway. After we suprise the flood fleet to distract them, we are going to send in a small team of 15 men, not including you as their leader. You and your team will be sent in on a small transport. Your mission once on board is to plant 5 sub-atomic charges in 4 places. 1 in the main blast cannon room, 1 in the port engine room, 1 in the starboard engine room, and 2 in the pulse core of the mother ship. When the core is destroyed, any flood ship will be disabled, then...destroyed. And try to take out the main cannon room first, so as not to destroy our star fighters while youre little team is busy inside."
It was a lot for Skidami to take in. He was introduced to his 15 soldiers later that day. They were all headstrong, confident, smart, and extremely good fighters. 5 were Armarons, 5 were Daxxonas, 3 were Trontans, and 3 were Gontalites, including Skidami. Their speed was incredible, they could probably all beat Skidami in a match one on one, but he was here to lead them, not to prove to them he was better than them, because he wasn't. They were all veterans, that have fought in several battles each. While he was just a lowly soldier that had gotten lucky in a matter of speaking and gotten himself promoted to Arrow S.E.A.L. commander in a week of battle. He didn't deserve this he thought, but then again, I was picked by generals who themselves had been in years of battles and had tons of experience. He began to feel better thinking of this, and started to train his men for the upcoming mission.
It took 4 days to equip Skidami's men with the knowledge they needed to know for the mission. There wasn't much battle training since they were already experienced enough. They were supplied with fake sub-atomic charges to practice with arming and disarming...just in case. They practiced in the holo-scenario room. It projected an image of the predicted engine, core, and cannon rooms. They trained placing and arming the charges in less than 15 seconds. There wasn't much time to arm the charges once they were in. Since the flood would probably know they were there shortly after they entered the ship.
On the 5th day Skidami ordered his soldiers to take a well deserved rest. The next day was going to be the big battle. Skidami went to his quarters to rest himself, but was soon called to the bridge. As soon as he walked in, he could feel tension in the room. Dontan had a stern look on his face, Flak-su was pacing the floor, Gofin was turned away looking out into space, and Halan was sitting down with his hands over his head.
"Something wrong?" Skidami asked. Dontan replied, "Skidami, it appears the situation has become a bit more complicated. Your team, unfortunately doesn't have a ride." Skidami face turned white, "Wha-What do you mean we don't have a ride?! The mission is tomorrow! What are we supposed to do?" Halan stood up now, "You might not want to hear this, but you're going to have to hi-jack a flood frieghter. We tracked its position, it's heading straight for the flood fleet. So they'll be expecting it to arrive, making it easier to get in. Although you'll have to dock in their docking bay, which is on the opposite side of the cannon room."
Skidami was shocked,"But what happened to our old ride, the original one?" Dontan answered,"You'll still have it, but only until the freighter, then the pilot will turn back once you're all on board. The pilot wouldn't go into flood territory. He backed out at the wrong time I agree, but this is our only choice. You may return to your quarters, and your men are being informed now, with the same explanation you just heard."
Skidami was in a very bad mood on his way back to his room. I can't believe this, he thought. How could this happen, not only do we have to hijack a frieghter unnoticed by flood patrols, but we don't have a cloaking device for ourselves. He stopped to get something to eat and then stopped by the lasersmith. "How's it going, Skidami?" asked Tuyu, the lasersmith that was making special weapons for this mission. Skidami replied,"Not to well I guess. Listen Tuyu, I'm gonna need to ask you a favor." Tuyu said,"Sure!Anything." "I'm gonna need you to make me a little something..."
