RaptorPack (chptr 6) By RaptorClaw
Day 5
“Can this thing go any faster??” complained Jake. The last of the mammoth Ptero Transports was now hauling the Mosozaur, the small submarine. Jake was to pilot it down to the Runner, then gather all the surviving crewmembers. He hoped Nick was one of them. Maybe fifty feet behind them were Mack, Diego, and Peter, in a jeep. Jake was riding with Terrence and Jeremy. Mack. Diego, and Peter were to scout while the others rescued the hover-crew. Jake prayed this would all work out perfectly. Too bad nothing is perfect. They reached the piece of beach the last transmission came from. Jake and Terrence and Jeremy began unloading the equipment and prepared to ship the sub into the sea, while the others patrolled. Terrence and Jeremy quickly unloaded the submarine. Jake hopped in, and the Mosozaur slipped through the waves. He turned the headlight on to view through the murky water. “Stop the jeep, stop it!” Mack whispered. Raptors. They had noticed a pack of raptors nearby. Luckily, the raptors hadn’t noticed them. They were moving slowly, the raptors I mean, carefully, stealthily, towards where the final Pterotransport had dropped off the Mosazaur. “Get out, and be quiet.” Diego said quietly, “Mack, you and me go around the side, Peter stay here with the jeep. When, If, I give the signal, a whistle, fire at the raptors. There’s three of them, a female and two males. Just be careful.” Mack and Diego, just as Diego had ordered, moved around the side. Once they all were in position, none of them could see the others. Suddenly...
“Jeremy to Jake, Jeremy to Jake, can you see anything, over?” “I heard you the first time! No, I don’t see anything, it’s dark down here.” “Well hurry up, it’s starting to rain, over.’ “You realize you don’t have to say over, right?” “Of course, over” Jake sighed. There was no sign of the Runner, and he was beginning to get worried. “Jake, quick------” Jake stopped the ship. What was that? It sounded like Terrence, not Jeremy, but Jeremy was on radio duty. However, his train of thought shifted as he noticed a dark shape in the water. The Runner, perhaps. “Yes!” he cried, and shifted his wait in the seat. He leaned forward, look carefully and his gaze was met by...a green eye.
Two shots rang out in the jungle. Mack darted his head up. He must have missed the signal. He fired at the raptors. But they had already run towards where the jeep had been. “What was that?” Diego was suddenly running across the clearing screaming. “What’s going on?” shouted Mack, now running toward Diego. “What’s wrong?” “I never gave the signal! I never gave the signal!!” They heard the sound of the jeep moving. Except the sound was getting fainter. The jeep was moving away from them. “Where does he think he’s going!” Diego shouted breathlessly. “He didn’t...just...he...no...” Mack stuttered. “He left us...”
“Mph” Kyle grunted. “Not good.” “What’s up?” Jody wheeled on her stool over to him and his computer. “Storm’s getting bigger.” “That is bad.” “Approximate arrival time, 34 minutes.” “And you figured that out from a fuzzy picture that’s probably snack food smudge?” “Yes. Yes I can. I’m gonna call the rescue team,” Kyle laughed. he picked up the headpiece for the short-range radio. “Base Camp to Run-rescue, do you copy?” “.......................................................................................................” “Jeremy? Terrence? You there?” “.........................................................................................................” “Stupid radio... stupid short range... They must be out of range.” Kyle threw the headpiece on the table and sighed. Then it crackled to life.
“Ky-.......he-.........we ne-...... Jer-........sp-........-tta-......we.........” But the next part came loud and clear. And desperate and scared.
“Help...”
