Jurassic Park - New Peril (P1)
    By Powerhouse

Keenan Rowe sat in his chair, staring at the computer screen. He was reading the BIOSYN company newsletter. The crammed cubicle was cluttered with various articles he wrote in the newsletter. Most were about different findings he made in the section of BIOSYN he worked for; Tropical Disease. But the article he was reading had nothing to do with diseases.

The heading of the article in the lower corner of the front page read "BIOSYN loses great man, Lewis Ryan Dodgson, at age 47." The article was short, giving little detail on his death, saying he passed away following a brief illness.
"Bull," Keenan said to himself. He wasn't really fond of Dodgson, just like every employee was, but he knew this wasn't ordinary. If Dodgson really died from illness, he'd get a more elaborate article, not a cheap blurb.
Keenan quickly decided that he had to find out what really happened. BIOSYN was a very suspicious company, and that made him nervous, so he always to know what was up at the workplace. Last time and odd employee death came up, Keenan and a bunch of co- workers went to Jake Thomas, the guy over in programming systems you call when you need some hacking for info, who is called "Digger" for his talent. Digger did some searching and they eventually discovered that the employee didn't die from cancer as the article claimed, but according to the company doctors possibly from chemical he inhaled while working in the labs. The next day, Digger tried to access the files that told him this information, only to realize they were deleted. Fearing someone was watching them, they gave up.
Keenan leaned around his cubicle wall, looking at his friend Vince Latrel. " Vince, you read the newsletter," Keenan asked.
Vince quickly responded, " Yeah, and poor Dodgson. Eh, I hated him anyway. "
"But pretty weird. I mean, come on, 'short illness.' And only a paragraph? Somethings up. You get everyone together, Beno, Grant, Stak, the whole group, and tell them we'll meet at Digger's place tonight. I'll let him know we're coming, ok?" Keenan said.
"Alright, let's do it," Vince answered. With that, both men turned around again, facing their console.

Stak sat on the desk near Digger while he was busily searching BIOSYN files. Beno gazed at the screen, trying hopelessly to make sense of what Digger was doing at his computer. Grant Postlane was upstairs raiding through the refrigerator. Rex Goss sat on the sofa, reading a magazine and Phil Wonderby sat next to him, half asleep.
Keenan stood behind Digger. He was following what Digger was doing for awhile, but soon got tired of standing and sat against the wall.
One AM came around, and half the group was asleep. Only Stak, Rex, and Digger remained awake.
"I got something!" Digger yelled. Stak and Rex rushed over. On the screen was a single file reading SITE B EXPEDITION. Digger opened it, showing three subfiles named COST, SUPPLIES, and OBJECTIVE.
"Try OBJECTIVE," Stak suggested. Digger clicked it, revealing a short paragraph:
The goal of traveling to SITE B
is to locate and extract 15 eggs
    from different nesting sites shown
    on BIOSYN sattelite maps

"Wait, what does this have to do with Dodgson?" Rex asked.
In response, Digger exited both folders and came to a screen with the SITE B EXPEDITION folder in the center and below it read 'Proposed by Lewis Dodgson.'
Stak had already awakend the others.
"Show us the OBJECTIVE folder again," Grant said. Digger agreed and click the folder. The screen blinked twice and froze.
"Whoa, that wasn't me, " Digger whispered.
He ran his fingers over the keyboard, trying to fix the problem. After a few moments of a black screen, a screen, a small box appeared reading: Error- The file you have requested has been deleted.
    "Deleted!" Wonderby said.
"Yeah," Stak responded. " Someone really doesn't want us to know something."

Sitting in a dark BIOSYN office, Drake Nodin deleted the SITE B file with a single click of the mouse.
"Looks like we have a problem to get rid of. And seven other people have just offered to join our little trip."

Marcus Zimmerman stood at the dock in Costa Rica, looking into the ocean. He was preparing to take more supplies over to the workers he was instructing on building the small research compound on some deserted island in the middle of the ocean. He had no clue what they were building or why the were building it there, but BIOSYN was paying him and his men well so he kept his mouth shut
Marcus walked onto the ship that would take him and his cargo to the island. He wanted to leave now, it was getting dark and he wanted inside the compound before nightfall; the other workers said they've seen some strange stuff on the island in the past three weeks. Monsters or something. One guy has even been missing for a week now.
A crewman that was on the boat loading the final supplies passed Marcus and Marcus asked him " Where's our captain?"
"She's over there," the crewman said. He pointed to the other end of the boat. Marcus decided to test his luck with her. She stood there, reading a clipboard in her hand while running her hand through her dark brown hair. Marcus picked his best pick-up line and headed towards her like a lion approaching its kill.
"Hello beautiful! And may I ask what the name of this fallen angel is?"
"The name's Kate, and your not much of a charmer," she answered and walked into the Galley. Marcus followed.
He lean casually against the wall, giving Kate a strange look, kind of like a hungry child looking at a cake in the bakery window. "Well, some people think I am quite charming," Marcus claimed, " In fact, all my friends call me Slick."
"Really, is that so, Slick?" Kate mumbled. She then turned and pulled a rope above her that rang the bullhorn, startling Slick, causing him to hit his head on the roof.

Drake Nodin stood before a room of four paleontologists that worked for BIOSYN. He despised everything about each and every one of them; they thought they knew just about everything. But that didn't matter, they were going to Site B with him, and they were going to help BIOSYN become the leading biologically synthetic company in the United States.. They were the priority at the island, they were key to the research the company desperately needed on these animals before they exploited them.
"Alright, listen up," Nodin started, "We leave for Isla Sorna at 6:00 AM tomorrow. Tell no one of where you are going. When we arrive at Sorna's docks, helicopters will take you from the docks to the compound, about 20 miles from the docks, which isn't 100% complete but fully operational."
A man leaning against the wall, not paying much attention to Nodin, lifted his head. "What safety features are in this compound. I'd like to stay together."
The question struck a Nerve with Nodin. "Your safety is, ah, um, of the......utmost priority," he stammered. Drake gave a half-hearted smile and shuffled out of the room, heading to the disease branch of BIOSYN to tell Keenan and his snooping jerks that they would be joining the paleo-numskulls on the trip to Isla Sorna, but unknowingly, wouldn't be coming back.

The door behind Vince opened, and the commissioner of BIOSYN, Drake Nodin, entered the office. He shut the door behind him.
"Alright, you all have been re-assigned for four days. We need your specialists on a Costa Rican island, where certain workers of ours are becoming ill. You are going to Isla Maltana to check these men out. Meet here at 10:00 PM tonight, we will leave promptly. No luggage is needed, we will supply you with what you need. I will see you this evening." Nodin quickly turned around and left the office, giving an evil smile on his way out.
    "Great, 10:00 tonight!" Stak whined.
"Eh, it's not that bad, just think of it as a free vacation," Rex sighed.

Marcus and several men loaded supplies into a helicopter. Slick looked out into the jungle and could barely see the upper rim of the sun peeking over the canopy. Nightfall was near, and he didn't want to be outside of the workers dorms after dark. The researchers coming tomorrow had it easy. Their dorms, which were separate from the workers dorms, were connected to the labs they worked in all day, meaning the researchers could go the entire day without leaving the air conditioned compound.
Slick got into the copter and told the pilot he was ready to leave Sorna's docks and head to the compound in the island interior, some 20 miles away. Slowly, the copter dragged itself off the helipad, rising slowly like a crow early in the morning. The helicopter was huge. It could seat up to 18 passengers, two pilots and 2,500 pounds of cargo. They are used solely to run the convoy of taking workers and supplies from the docks to the compound and back again.
Slick tried to look out the copters windows, but they were all tinted. That fact always made Slick a bit suspicious about this whole operation. For all he knew, it could be snowing out there.
After a ten minute flight, the copter was beginning its shaky descent, and Slick could feel it. The wind on this island always made take offs and landings difficult. The copter finally settled onto the helipad. Slick pulled the door open. It was twilight on the island, and he could barely see some of his workers approaching the copter to help with supplies.
Travis Wills, Devin James, and Kyle Brandt began unload the supply crates into a truck. The truck was big. It looked like a humvee but much larger. It was draped with a thick camoflage net and painted camoflage colors. Mud was splattered all over it, showing the amount of heavy use it got on the island.
"Nice to see you Slick," Devin greeted. He reached out and shook his hand. "How's the real world doing?"
"Same old," Slick said. He hopped out of the copter and walked straight for the truck. "Now let's get to the dorms before dark!"
Slick and him workers quickly loaded the cargo from the copter into the jeep and drove to the compound about 500 yards from the helipad. The entire area that BIOSYN had established amounted to a little over 18 acres, all enclosed by a thick, ten foot high chain-linked fence.
The truck came to a stop when it came to the workers storage shed. Slick and his workers got out and began unloading supplies as fast as possible. He looked out across the clearing, just seeing the top of the fence glisten in the moonlight.
"What do you suppose that's for?" Slick asked, pointing to the fence.
"I've heard Fink say it's to keep out some kind of big water buffalo," Travis answered.
"Yeah, that's why," a voice behind them said. They turned around, seeing a man in a black suit with a BIOSYN patch above his breast pocket.
"Good evening, Dan," Slick greeted formerly.
" Yea, good evening Mr. Fink," Devin said.
Dan didn't answer but walked right by them, into the shed. He pointed to a set of shelves behind three large crates, making the shelves hard to access until the large crates were used in three days. "Place the supply crates here," he ordered.
"But sir, we'll need these tom....." Slick started before Dan interrupted.
"Listen, nimrod, we pay you and your men to work, not think, and I'm in charge here until Drake Nodin gets here so shut up and do it." Dan boomed.
With that said, Dan left the room and the workers started packing the crates.
