    The Last Iliad chp. 10
    By NeonBlade

Tony stood still letting his breath make the faintest sound. His lungs let loose and the nitrogen from inside burst outwards in a ferocious act. Tony collapsed onto his knees covering them in the sewer water. Tony could only reflect on those last options that Carlos had given him. The echo of a water bead coiled around the sewer. Tony shot a quick glance back the he had came from with great fear burrowed under his pupils. The Tunnel seamed to be getting darker some how. But this, Tony feared, was only because of the approaching terror.

“ Sir, we are now one mile from enemy territory.” The driver spoke trying to turn his head away from the controls to face Drake. “ Thank you driver.” Drake spoke back as he tightened up, ready to stand. “ Get in contact with the other ATV’s and tell them to prepare their troops, but also add they will only be needed if the plan doesn’t go correctly.” Drake ordered, but as he spoke the last words, he bit his lip with fear. He had just shown fear and a backup plan, which meant that he could expect to be defeated. Runner nodded his head and walked over to a communicator on the power computer.
“ Sir, do you expect a defeat?” another commander questioned keeping a strait face. “ Of course not. But a good leader always has a back up plan.” Drake spoke back rocking back and fourth from the rocky terrain. “ You forget Commander-.” Drake smiled. “ I’m intelligent, not cocky, because cocky will get us killed.” Drake finished admiring the impressed face of his fellow commander. “ Every thing will go just as planned.” Said as he turned and prepared his combat suit incase of an emergency.

Claire threw the last of her items harshly into her bag, going over the many things parading around in her mind. She had thought all night about what she was going to do. She put on her heaviest clothes to protect her from the post-war cold. She wrapped her torn scarf around her neck, finishing it up around her face. She finished buy putting on a pair of old tinted orange goggles she had found in an old department store. She sighed one more time and grabbed the keycard. She had the plan, she had the gear, but she didn’t know if she was right.

Tony’s teeth shook up and down. The frigid cold was invading his very flesh, destroying the will power that had forced him so far. His laid in the water, which he pondered over since it, was absorbing the cold. He shook rapping his arms around himself trying to conserve the heat, or what was left of it. Tony wanted to cry. He was god knows where in a sewer looking for some metaphorical place that a mutant had told him. He let out a weak gasp of laughter at the thought of his original objective- to get food. Tony closed his eyes with the weakness over coming him as he drifted into a deep dark space.
And all along Tony thought of one person, and why they were worth living for.
