    Log Jamming
    By N e o

She's amazed at how strange it looks, how big it is. So very warm, throbbing under her grip. Reluctant, she slides her mouth over it's whole legnth.
"You shouldn't do that, you know?"
The girl, maybe 15, looks up quickly. Her hands, previously entwined, drop to her waist.
The boy, maybe 16, lets a small grin spread across his face. "We're in the middle of a park. Someone besides me might see you."
Their eyes met, and her hands slide back together again. "I'm Bobby. You are?"
"Hurting like hell, thanks." She moves forward, quick, avoiding him.
Bobby steps in front of her escape. "Why don't you let me take a look at your hand? It's not like I'm going to rip the damn thing off."
    "And what is some kid-"
    "Bobby."
"And what is Bobby going to do about my thumb?"
"Well, I can't suggest something so brilliant and sophisticated as sucking on it..." Bobby moves forward, lightly grasps her hand up.
Her eyes squint for a moment as his hand brushes over her thumb. "Looks broken."
    "Feels broken."
As her eyes start to wander, he's saying, "My house is right down the block." She starts staring at him- Unblinking, an eyebrow raised. "I could splint this for you, save you a-"
"Thanks but no thanks, Doogie," Pulling free.
    "It's Bobby."
Turning back for a moment, saying, "Obviously, you are not a fireman." Her words perk.
"And you're not going anywhere without me fixing that hand. What are you worried about?"
"Please. Come on." She starts to walk with him.
"So how'd you break your thumb?"
She looks away for a moment, smiling. "Trying to return my cousin's frog to the wild. Lifted up a log for it, dropeed it on my thumb."
"Really jammed it in there, eh? So, what's your name?"
    "Meridith."
    "Frog,huh?"
    "Yeah."
    "You a pet person?"
"I guess so. Won't microwave one, if that's what you mean."
"Hadn't crossed my mind. We have some cats at the place. It's up on our left. White, with blue." Bobby guestures up a few houses more.
Meridith's gaze follows his hand. At this, she takes her own hands out from one another, looks down at her thumb.
    "Your cats have names?"
    "Julia and Pancake."
She glances over at him. "Why Pancake?"
They're going up the driveway now, he opens the door. She stops for a moment, then goes inside.
"We got him from the ASPCA. They gave him the name. Here he is now."
A brown cat runs out, meowing. Meridith bends down, and, with her good hand, brushes her hand along it's back.
"Turns out, they got called in from some neighbors who heard really loud meows from next door. They send two people over, and the door is open."
Meridith looks up at Bobby, and Pancake starts licking her fingers.
"Inside, this 400 pound fat naked woman is lying dead on the floor. And, out between her flabs of stomach, is the head and legs of this here cat."
Meridith instantly stands up, jerking her hand away.
She follows Bobby into a large bathroom. He's opening the cabinant, getting out some things. She's lookinmg around, and says, "So, how do you know how to fix broken people's thumbs?"
    "Only girls."
    "What?"
"I can only fix girls' thumbs." He grins. "You know, I saw an episode of ER once."
