Jurassic Park IV: Extinction Chapter 6: Part 2
    By Mr Goodbytes

    Chapter 6: Part 2/ Pteranodons.

Roland and the two mercenaries ducked and rolled, avoiding the first attacks. The red haired man close to him screamed in agony as the animal ripped a beak full of hair from his scalp. The second man jumped to his feet, and began firing at the alpha Pteranodon. He missed on all occasions. He, instead, caused the second Pterosaur to join the battle. Swooping downward at almost thirty miles per hour, the creature slammed it’s massive beak into the mans face! The impact was so jarring, that it nearly ripped the mans head off! The collision also grounded the Pteranodon. Roland fired five shots into the bird before it could take off again. The red haired man fired several rounds toward the alpha Pteranodon, but again he missed the great bird every time. The red haired man fired six more rounds. He had used every last shell of ammunition! He ran full speed toward the protection of Roland.

Roland Tembo raised his gun and fired at the giant bird, but it was too fast. The Pterosaur dived toward the red haired man. The man picked up a stone, his only weapon at this point, and threw it at the Pteranodon. To their amazement, the animal followed and caught the rock! Roland was about to take his shot, but at the very last moment his gun jammed!
What, he thought to himself, am I supposed to do now?
The Pteranodon had, for some reason, returned to the nest after catching the rock, but it didn’t stay there long. It came rocketing back before any of the humans could think of a plan. The only thought that crossed Roland’s mind, was the idea that he may die.

The Pterosaur plunged downward again. The monstrous creature landed on top of Roland with a heavy thud! The red haired man rushed forward, kicking the bird hard in the leg. It was enough to free Tembo, but the man was too close. The animal spun around, and clamped it’s long jaws on the red haired mans throat. The beaks sharp edges had little trouble slicing his flesh. Roland watched in horror as the last of his group was slaughtered. Standing up, he found that his upper leg had been torn open. It was not life threatening, he was just unable to run. However, in this case that in itself was life threatening. The alpha Pteranodon turned toward him, stalking slowly. There was no where to run even if he could!

Roland stumbled backwards, falling hard on his back. Something poked his back as he lay on the muddy ground. He suddenly remembered the small case of C4! The original plan was to use it to blow up the nest, but now the plan had changed. He was going to wait for the bird to get close, then blow himself up! The Pterosaur walked ever closer. It was wary of this human. This creature had killed his last mate. He would be cautious. Roland fingered the button on the detonator. Any second now, he thought. Then, he suddenly remembered the red haired man! Crawling to his feet, he startled the bird back into the air. He lifted the C4 out of its straps.
    “I hope this works.”
He threw the little case of explosives into the air. Just like with the stone, the Pteranodon grabbed it and carried it back to the nest.
    “Join your mate in extinction!”
Roland pushed the detonator, blowing the bird and its nest into oblivion.
