Jurassic Park IV: Extinction Chapter 5: Part 1

Chapter 5: Part 1/ Night
The shadows of night fell upon the group of miserable humans. They had made camp in a pocket of dense vegetation near a small clearing. Snare and Davis had located one of the many tree shelters scattered across the island, and kept watch over the camp. The rest of the group stayed close to the Explorer. Nick and Samantha sat up front talking while the onboard computer transferred the latest video and photos to their home. “Why did I ever talk you into this? All those stories about these animals, and yet I was still blind to danger.”
“It’s not your fault,” Nick said, “I would have came anyway. I owe Hammond a lot. You said so yourself.”
“Nick, you were terrified. Admit it. I convinced you, no one else. Now I know something bad is going to happen,” Samantha said.
Nick realized that she was the frightened one. Samantha was a sensitive woman, she should never have came along. Nick had the same horrid feeling an his wife, but he wouldn’t tell her so. The two stared at each other in silence for a moment. Nick knew how much they meant to each other. They simply could not live without each other. “Sorry to interrupt,” James Turner said to Nick, “but I’m afraid I have some bad news.”
“I finally figured out where I have seen that man before,” Turner whispered. “He was in the military with me. His name is David Snare, I didn’t really serve with him however.”
“What’s the bad news?”
“The bad news,” Turner said, “is that he his insane. He was discharged after a piece of shrapnel sliced through his head. The worst part, is that it’s my fault. When I shot that missile, it was too close. It was a fragment blown from the explosion that hit him.”
“You saved his life, and the lives of the other men. Why would this be bad news?”
“Didn’t you hear me, the man is insane. If he ever realizes who I am, I’m a dead man.”
The blast from Snare’s gun silenced the two. Something was in the camp!
Light downy feathers filled the air as the first shot burst through the leaping Raptor. A pack of about ten was attacking the hide! Snare and Davis fired round after round, but the animals kept coming. Two more fell before they broke the attack. Retreating, the alpha female stopped and sniffed the air. “CAAAAAW!” The Velociraptor began roaring. The sound stopped the others in their tracks. They turned, and attacked the car! Nick yelled, “Everyone in and stay in!” Snare continued to fire from the shelter, but missed the animals all together.
“Are you crazy! You are going to kill someone,” screamed Bret Davis.
“Shut the hell up!”
“No! I will not stand by and let you kill those people!”
Davis grabbed the barrel of the gun, yanked it away from Snare, and threw it over the side. Snare didn’t utter a word, he simply placed his fist in Davis’ face. Davis stumbled backwards, falling over the rail. Immediately, three of the Velociraptors swarmed over him. Their razor sharp teeth sliced his flesh while their hind claws slashed his stomach and severed his tendons. As his blood washed over the ground, Snare took careful aim. He killed the three Raptors while they fought over the kill. The other Velociraptors heard this, and retreated into the jungle. However, they were not gone. Their screams of anger could be heard for hours afterwards. As they left, Jack Thorne was in a panic. He repeated how he did not want to die like Eddie. Despite the groups protest, he fled into the opposite side of the jungle, never to be seen again.
