    Chapter 6: Hidden
Ed Regis touched down from the Ingen helicopter onto the empty field south of the labs, and prepared to visit Hammond and the dinosaurs. He looked around to the looming jungle, the lush humid tropical smell hanging in the air. One driver waited for him. The Helicopter zoomed off leaving him.
“Mr. Regis sir,” called the driver, “Shall we be off?”
“Yes,” answered Regis, “Where are you taking me first?” He hopped into the jeep and they entered the jungle.
“Mr. Hammond suggested you take a view of the island first by jeep first hand,” answered the driver.
“Oh,” said Ed Regis. He didn’t need some site seeing crap to help him create a great tour package. He was the best.
They continued through the lush jungle for an hour when they came upon a river. It was slow and peaceful; a few dinosaurs roamed along the river. “That, Mr. Regis is an Ankylosaurus,” the driver said pointing to a dinosaur covered in plates with a tail club.
“Oh,” remarked Regis. Personally he could care less about dinosaurs. Only the vicious meat eating ones could spark his interest. They continued the drive passing a herd of long-necked sauropod called Brachiosaurus. He sat looking at the scenery when he saw through the brush a building all by itself with no real road and basically hidden. “What is over there?” asked Regis pointing in the direction of the building.
“Nothing, No real buildings are in this vicinity,” answered the driver.
“Right there. There is a building,” Regis again stated.
“Really?” questioned the driver. He stopped the jeep and looked realizing there was, in fact a hidden building. “Your right. You don’t mind if we investigate?”
“Go right on ahead. I’m as interested as you.” Answered Regis.
With that the jeep went off road to find out what that building was and why it was hidden.
    ************************************************************************
What is that jeep doing coming in our direction? Thought Nick Nordby. He stood watch from one of the labs watchtowers shotgun in hand for any intruders to his and Dr. Henry Wu’s secret lab. He pulled out a pair of binoculars and put them up to his puzzled eyes. In the jeep he saw the driver and some young looking kid wearing a suit and a baseball hat. He called to Wu from phone near him, “We have some unexpected visitors.”
“What should we do?” asked Dr. Wu in a staticy hollow voice from the phone.
“Let me handle it,” answered Nordby, a small smile on his face. The sound of a gun cock echoed through out the watchtower.
    **********************************************************************
“Stop,” Yelled Nick Nordby, waving his hands to the jeep as he walked from the lab. The jeep stopped in front of him and the driver got out.
“What is this facility out here for?” asked the driver.
“Confidential,” answered Nordby. He wanted the people in the jeep to leave as soon as possible.
“I am a driver for this island. I have a right to know where and what each facility is,” demanded the driver, “Tell me!”
Ed Regis could feel tension. He didn’t like the look of that guy, especially since he was holding a shotgun.
“No,” answered Nordby. He lifted his shotgun and pointed it at the driver. “Leave.”
“You can’t fucking shoot me here, there are witness’s, so stop fucking around!” exclaimed the driver staring at Nick Nordby angrily.
“I can shoot you, “ said Nordby calmly. The gun clicked. Pointed at the driver “Its an island.” The gun went off nailing the driver in the chest sending him flying. He hit the grill of the jeep with a wham and slumped back onto the earth.
“Oh fuck!” yelled Ed Regis looking frightened,” How could you kill him?” He didn’t wait for an answer and ran. Though he didn’t get far. As he ran he felt the thud of a butt of Nordby’s gun and fell to the ground, blackness enveloped him.
    ************************************************************************
“What should we do with him,” asked Dr. Lizzie McKay.
Ed Regis woke up on the floor of the hidden building surrounded by Nick Nordby, Dr. Henry Wu and Dr. Lizzie McKay. A shotgun barrel was in his face as he opened his eyes.” Holy shit!” he scrambled on the floor afraid for his life.
“”Relax you pussy,” said Nordby. He lifted Ed Regis to his feet.
‘”Were not going to kill you, Mr. Nordby sometimes gets a little carried away,” said Dr. Wu.
“Fine, Then what the hell is this place?” asked Regis as he found his bearings and looked around. He was inside a large laboratory with giant test tubes that you could put animals in and what looked like dozens of hatcheries. About ten other scientists walked around studying creatures inside some of the tubes and looking at eggs.
“It’s a lab if you haven’t already guessed,” remarked Dr. McKay.
“Don’t you have other labs where you breed the dinosaurs?” questioned Regis still rubbing the back of his head from the clubbing.
“Yes, but Hammond doesn’t want to do what goes on here. What true scientists are supposed to do,” answered Dr. Wu.
“We will show you around since you won’t be leaving soon,” said Nordby.
They all headed toward the sounds of creatures, toward the cages.
Ed Regis walked with the scientists with an uneasy feeling about what he was going to see. They passed by a few vending machines. Recognizing how hungry he was, he stopped and pulled out his wallet.
“Don’t worry about paying if your hungry,” commented Dr. McKay. She walked over to the vending machine and opened it pulling out a few snacks and gave it to Ed Regis, “No chump in his right mind would pay for the vending machines.”
“Thanks,” said Regis. They continued walking down the corridor.
The group arrived at a large steel gate and Nordby opened it. Inside was a few scientists studying dinosaurs in a hallway of cages. “I have to check with Dr. Matthews before we show you anything,” announced Dr. Wu. They continued down the warm humid passageway.
They arrived at a steel cage near the end of the corridor. Inside the cage were a small carnivorous dinosaur and two scientists heading out the steel mesh door. “Dr. Wu!” exclaimed Dr. Matthews. “I have some good news from my recent studies.” The other scientist stood next to him flipping notes. “The Velociraptors are smarter then we thought. They’re much more intelligent then stupid vicious killers. Why this morning…..”
Dr. Matthews was cut off. Ed Regis saw why. The Velociraptor in the cage had slashed his back. And he fell to the ground, eyes rolling to the back of his head. Everybody stepped back.
“What the hell!” screamed Dr. McKay as she backed up. The other scientist turned to run in fear when a creature with a long tail, killer claws on the feet, and bipedal jumped in front of him snarling ready to pounce. He fell to the ground too frightened to move and the Velociraptor stepped over to him and simply opened the other raptors cage by turning the knob and opened the door. They both growled and killed the trembling scientist on the floor.
Nick Nordby getting back his senses, shouted, “Run!” He cocked his shotgun as he ran and fired a shot, hitting the smaller raptor. The bigger one started making strange calls, but Nordby didn’t stay behind to see what would happen.
Ed Regis ran as fast as he could other scientists saw and ran as well. He including the others spilled out into the main laboratory shouting warnings to any scientist in the area. He turned around for only a moment to discover twelve raptors coming from other parts of the laboratory growling, calling and attacking scientists all around him.
Nick Nordby fired more shots nailing two raptors, but was running out of ammo, he ran still dodging hatchery tables and jumping over fallen scientists. He saw the stairs and knew he was almost out of the building, but felt a huge heavy weight hit him and he went down, his shotgun flying. It hit the ground shooting it off hitting a scientist. Darkness was closing in on Nick Nordby. He could only think of those damn dinosaur bastards and how he wished he was back hunting poachers in Africa.
Lizzie McKay saw Nordby go down and continued to run seeing Velociraptors take down people around her. Not realizing it, she turned and entered the cafeteria by herself and stopped. Looking around she saw nothing. “Shit! That was close,” sighing relief. A show loomed behind her. She turned and screamed.
Ed Regis scrambled up the stairs running from the raptors desperately trying to get away. He felt someone hit him and he turned his head and saw a panicked scientist trying to clamber over him. He pushed the scientist and he screamed as he fell back down the stairs. Turning back to the door a raptor was right in front of him. He stood shocked, trembling, and sweat dripped down his forehead. He could feel the raptors hot putrid breath. The raptor rammed him and tumbled down the stairs and was knocked out before that raptor got to him.
Dr. Wu never looked back. He ran to the empty jeep and raced back to the labs far away from his mistake, his best intentions; his secret.
