    Last Hope - Chapter 3
    By Guilty Spark

    LAST HOPE
    Chapter Three

Ian Malcolm walked over to the coffee maker and poured himself a cup of coffee and sipped at it slowly, playing things over in his head. The other three men talked about how nervous they were, Doc Holliday drinking a bottle of beer.

A young, blond haired woman wearing a grey jumpsuit walked in. She was obviously a worker, and she tried to look very professional. She tried almost to hard. She looked from face to face as she spoke, “Mr. Herman says that it is time to prepare to go.”

They followed her out of the break room, and into the main room of the building. She turned to them, as they walked in, “My name is Sarah, and I will be assisting you to prepare to use The Shifter.”

    Gary smirked, “The Shifter?”

Sarah stopped next to a table off to the side of the room, and the others took a cue from her, “Yes, it is a nickname that some of us workers have given the machine.”

Gary winked at her, and she blushed, “Alright, that sounds good to me.”

She had trouble trying to cease her flirty smile and her blushing, “Uh, well, these, are your weapons. You can take any kind you want really, as we have plenty, just take whatever feels comfortable,” she grabbed a revolver and held it in a shooting stance, then relaxed, “I like this Magnum myself.”

Gary smiled and whispered to her, “I always found a woman with a gun so sexy.”

She gave a half-smile and walked away. Some people already had gotten their weapons. John McClane was wearing a double chest holster and already had a berretta 9mm in each holster. Robocop had his weapon already with him as well. The Terminator still held the sawed off shotgun and looked like he was ready to go. Blake spoke to his men in the corner.

Darius walked out of the other room with Reese. He had obviously just explained everything. Kyle didn’t look nervous anymore, in fact, he looked quite determined.
Darius looked around, and gave a loud whistle. Everyone went quiet and turned to him. The silence was almost frightening. It was as if God had hit the mute button for the world.

Darius looked around, and took a deep breath, “Nevada Team leaves in about two minutes, anyone who has not gotten a gun yet, may want to do so.” A few people walked over to the table. Surprisingly, some of them were workers.

Gary turned to Sarah, “You aren’t going, are you?”

    “Of course I am.”

Gary’s eyes went wide, and he grabbed her by her arm, “But that is absolutely no place for a lady. Let’s go talk to Mr. Herman about this.”

Sarah proceeded to throw Gary to the ground, quite hard, “Thanks, but I think I can take care of myself out there.” And she stormed away.

Gary picked himself up off the ground, and turned to see Hannibal laughing. He turned back to see the platform on The Shifter start to glow. The Nevada team was about to leave. Burt and Muldoon started towards the large six wheel drive truck parked in the middle of the room. Both of them were carrying G3 automatic rifles. Korben walked up to it with them, with a UMP, followed by a young worker who couldn’t have been any older than nine-teen, totally unarmed.

Korben turned to Muldoon and Burt, “I think I’ll drive.”

Burt snorted, “That’s a big truck, think you can handle it?”

    Korben grinned, “I’ll manage.”

They took their spots in the truck with Korben at the wheel, The workman, named Daniel, in the passenger seat, and Burt and Muldoon sitting in back.

Darius walked over to them quickly, “Mr. Gummer, I trust that you will watch out for any graboids.”

Burt nodded, “It’s second nature to me.” Muldoon looked confused and muttered something that sounded oddly like “What the hell are graboids?”

With that being said, Darius stepped back from the large truck and watched as it kicked into gear and pulled onto the large platform. Within an instant the truck, and it’s occupants disappeared.

At that exact moment, hundreds of featureless beings raised out of thick, dark muck of a swamp. The began their march to a small, one road town.

Meanwhile in the town, David Westfell prepared for his wedding to his loving, fiancé, Diane. There was a beautiful view of the forest at the edge of town from the church steps. He stared at the forest edge. So many memories there, that was where he feel out of a tree and broke his arm and leg when he wad 6, that was where he had his first kiss at age 13 (with Diane oddly enough), and that was where he proposed to Diane only six months ago.

David’s best man, Diane’s brother, Maxwell walked outside.

“How ya doing, Dave old boy? Nervous?”

    “Oh you better believe it.”

A crunching noise came from the edge of the woods. Maxwell looked at the spot where it had come from curiously. He walked the edge of the woods, which was only about thirty feet from the church. There was a fawn there.

Max turned to look back at David grinning, “It was only a baby deer!” As he finished this sentence an arm came out from between the branches of some trees and the hand grabbed Max by the back of the neck. Before Maxwell even had time to look at what had grabbed him, a loud crunch filled the air. Max’s neck was broken, no doubt about it.

David stared on in horror as his soon-to-be brother in law fell to the ground limp. David ran back inside the church as a horde of featureless people stepped out from behind the trees.

Two of them smashed old Mr. Dowly’s Antique Store window. They climbed in through the broken window. On the inside Mr. Dowly had ducked back behind his sales counter before the glass had come crashing in. There he hid, shuddering, while the inhuman things tore his shop apart.

Slowly, a face emerged above his couther. It was one of them. One of those things. Its had reached out for Dowly, and he cowered back, just out of its reach. It was growing tired of Dowly avoiding its grip, and lunged at him.

    * * *

Back at the warehouse that held The Shifter, The Florida Teams prepared to get ready to go. Doc Holliday slung an Onyx shotgun over his shoulder and took a sip of whiskey. He stared at The Shifter. What was he about to get into? He looked at the guns on the table again, and picked up a Berretta Stampede revolver and placed it into his holster.

Across the room the T-800 placed his sawed-off shotgun inside his coat, and picked up a giant box. Ash walked up to him, and fell in step beside him, “So what do you think about all this?”

The Terminator stared at him for a moment then went back to staring straight ahead, “I think we must do what needs to be done. These clones could very well destroy the human race. They are almost as dangerous as Skynet.”

Ash stopped in his tracks, with a confused look on his face, “Skynet?”

At this time Darius stepped up in front of the machine that started to glow again. He looked incredibly nervous. He cleared his throat and everyone looked at him, “I need to inform you of what exactly, you will be doing. Team One will infiltrate the compound from the main entrance, this will be heavily guarded, no doubt, so be extremely careful. Team Two will go around the back of the compound’s main building and enter there. Finally, Team Three will secure the perimeter and then enter a second building. This is a power shed. We know that there is a tunnel that leads into the main compounds basement.”

Capt. Blake cut in, “What are we going to be facing in there?”

“Ah, yes. Well, we know of four kinds of enemies that you will encounter. The first is Gelding’s soldiers. Most of these guys are terrorist wannabes, that carry around AK-47s. These are the guys you will encounter most. Next we have Dr. Gelding’s personal body guards, and as far as we know there are only about four of these guys. They are heavily armed so watch your asses if you run into them. Next up we have the clones themselves. With these guys think of Superman, but without the flying and the laser vision. They are genetically enhanced super soldiers. I can’t stress this enough, but watch yourselves in there. Last, but certainly not least, are Gelding’s cyborgs. We have no clue how many there are, but I am telling you now, do not engage them, if you happen to run into one, I want you to get your ass out of there. That is all, except for one last thing,” His voice became somber, “The Dark Army, that is Gelding’s troops of course, have invaded a single town. A small little town on the edge of the everglades. There are no survivors. We need to get rid of this before it gets any worse,” he nodded and stepped off to the side, “You may now proceed. God’s speed to you all.”

Everyone in the Florida Team stepped onto the platform, a few seconds later there as a blinding flash of light, and they all disappeared.”

A worker on a computer turned to Darius, “Let’s hope they can do this.”
