Tell Me More Lies- Chapter 2
    By Fearless106

"So, what can you guys tell me about the mating rituals of a T-Rex?"

A few of the students snickered.

    "What's so funny?"

    "Nothing Billy."

"Look, I let you guys call me on a first name basis, I take you on field trips, could you at least have the courtesy to not act like you're twelve?"

"You're only three years older than us Billy, I'm not surprised you didn't laugh too."

"I know you're all excited for winter break, but that bell doesn't ring for another ten minutes." He pointed to the clock and sighed. Who was he kidding, he needed the break as much as they did. More even.

    "Jane?"

A girl that looked about twenty-two casted her eyes up to meet his.

"What can you tell me about mating rituals?"

"Do you want me to start with foreplay or the actual act?"

The class laughed and Billy sighed.

"I'm talking about T-rex's. You know, the big bad dinosaurs that roamed the earth millions of years ago."

"So am I." She smirked at him and picked up her pencil. She pointed it to a boy sitting next to her. "Why don't you ask Alex? He hasn't answered a single question in your class all year, while you call on me every day."

"Okay then, Alex. Tell me about the mating rituals of T-rex's."

"Well....uh..." He paused and looked down at his desk.

Billy crossed his arms. "We're waiting."

    "I....they uh..."

The class jumped as a knocking sound came loudly from the door. Alex smiled at his break.

"Think about that question Alex, it's the first thing I'll ask you when we get back here next month."

Alex shrugged and put on his headphones.

Billy walked over to his door and opened it partially, surprised at who he saw on the other side.

    "Hello Billy."

    "Dr. Grant! What....why?"

    "May I come in?"

"Of course, of course." He moved aside as Alan walked in, glancing over the students inside the classroom. "You must be really entertaining." He mentioned as he noticed three of them sleeping on their desks.

"It was a rough week. Anyways, what are you doing here?"

"Hey! You're Dr. Grant! That...that dinosaur guy!" A male student called out from the back of the room.

Billy grinned. "He's the most articulate one in the class."

"Yes, I'm Dr. Grant." He smiled at the student and then turned back towards Billy. "Look, if I'm interupting your class, I will gladly come back later."

"No, no, it's all right. Go on."

Alan lowered his voice and turned his back to the inquisitive students. "Isla Rubla."

Billy lowered his eyebrows and leaned forward. "You'll have to be more specific."

"They're releasing the information next week."

    "What?! Who?!"

"The government. They've asked me to come along. They want someone who knows the dinosaurs as living, breathing creatures."

    "And are you going?"

    "I was hesitant at first...but..."

"It's suicide! Do you remember Isla Sorna? You got trapped in a log while a Spinosaurus and T-Rex dueled it out. Do you really want to go through that again?"

    Alan coughed. "Three million."

    "What?"

"They've offered me three million dollars to go back and help them."

Billy let out a low whistle. "How do you know they're legit? How do you know they aren't just some other branch of Kirby Paint and Tile Plus?"

"This is the United States and Costa Rican goverment Mr. Brennan. I know who to trust."

"Well then what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be home packing or something?"

"They uh...they asked me to bring you along."

"Me?! Alan, I have a class to teach..."

Alan pointed at the clock. The minute hand was close to the hour being up. "In three minutes you won't have a class for one month. Come on Billy, you know I would never ask you if I thought it wasn't safe."

Billy picked up a pencil and started to tap it nervously. "Who else is going?"

"Two of my co-workers. Brad Edwards and Rick Stuart. Brad has studied the island for years. He could tell you everything about it, right down to where the nearest watering hole is. And Rick, well...he's actually out of work since he got fired last week, but he is an expert in Biology."

"Let me ask you something, has Brad ever been on this island?"

"Well...no, but he has flown over it numerous times. He has studied maps for years Billy."

"And how long is this going to take?"

    "One week, max."

"And what exactly are we doing there?"

Alan lowered his voice even more. "Look, I can't tell you right now Billy...when the time is right...then you'll know."

"So you're asking me to go to another island full of dinosaurs to do something that I know nothing about, and you'll be the one getting three 'mil?"

"One point five. I'm giving half to you if you accept."

Billy turned towards his students. He shook his head slowly at first, and then faster. "No. I can't Dr. Grant." He shuddered as his remembered being pecked at by the pteranadons, almost ending his short life.

Alan ran his hand through his hair and nodded at Billy. "Call me if you change your mind."

Billy remained silent and watched Alan walk out of the classroom.

"All right, homework over the break is-" The bell rang and everyone jumped up, making a dash for the door. A moment later Billy found himself staring at an empty room. "Learning how to respect your teachers."
